IR operates both long distance and suburban rail systems predominantly on a network of broad gauge. Small stretches of its network use metre and narrow gauges. It also owns locomotive and coach production facilities at several places in India, with assigned codes identifying their gauge, kind of power and type of operation. Its services cover twenty-six states and three union territories across India, and also has international connectivity to Bangladesh (with Bangladesh Railway) and Pakistan (with Pakistan Railways).

My grandfather joined Indian railway in 1949 as a cleaner in Eastern Railway's Asansol division. He used to tell the stories of his duty with these monsters. He used to say how hard the duty was when they run these monsters in JHAJHA Section. My Grandfather ran Steam Loco then Diesel Loco and lastly Electric Loco and finally his duty comes to an end in 16/06/1989. Whenever he he was talking about his duty he went so emotional that is beyond words. I used to go the Asansol Railway Station with him and he used to show these are engines and this how they work. This is cabin and so on. Today I'm a proud Indian Railway Fan only because of my Grandfather. Recently on 03/05/2022 he passed away. One thing I want to say regarding this video after the declaration of winner of Black Beauty when Airavat and Nandini rolling back to the yard I cried and I cried.

I had just one opportunity to feel the steam on Samastipur - Saharsa (Bihar) line. The documentary shows the story of Palur railway station getting closed. Palur was recently converted and reinstated as an electrified broad gauge railway station. The rest, the video was very nostalgic. I can proudly say Indian Railways gave many Indians a beacon of hope in their respective lives. My father was appointed as a Junior Engineer in IRCON, PSU running under Indian Railways. That one job changed the lives of many like us. Indian Railways shall always remain the best unifier for Indians.

The End of The Documentary is really emotional and heart touching..They are breaking those steam engines into pieces for sale😔.. Indian Government should renovate them and showcase them into Muesium..

Indeed, I have always known that the far-reaching Indian Railways are the greatest railway system on earth. However, very saddened by the demise of steam, but we do need to get away from coal, as a planet. Great memories from my childhood of those black beauties with fire in their bellies.
