"Us and Them" is a song by the English progressive rock band Pink Floyd, from their 1973 album The Dark Side of the Moon. The music was written by Richard Wright with lyrics by Roger Waters. It is sung by David Gilmour, with harmonies by Wright. The song is 7 minutes, 51 seconds in length, making it the longest on the album.
"Us and Them" is rather quiet in tone and dynamics, with prominent jazz influence, although the choruses are louder than the verses. It has two saxophone solos in it, one at the beginning and another towards the end of the song. Richard Wright introduces the song with harmonies on his Hammond organ, and put a piano chordal backing and short piano solo afterwards on the arrangement.
David Gilmour - electric guitars, lead vocals (verses and choruses)
Richard Wright - Hammond organ, harmony vocals (choruses)
Roger Waters - bass guitar, fuzz bass, piano
Nick Mason - drums
Dick Parry - tenor saxophone
Lesley Duncan - backing vocals
Doris Troy - backing vocals
Barry St. John - backing vocals
Liza Strike - backing vocals

Thanks for changing the end where you used to have everyone talking over each other! Much better format, IMO. Also, can’t go wrong with anything by Pink Floyd 😀
'Forward they cried from the rear, and the front rank died......'. or as it's put in another song, 'The ones that call the shots won't be among the dead and maimed, and on each end of the rifle we're the same.'
Never was a fan of The Dark Side of The Moon when I was younger, but closer to my 23 I have learned to appreciate it, till my mind came up with the conclusion that this is, probably one of the best albums ever written by any musical artist of any genre. I thought that The Wall, Wish You Were Here, The Division Bell, and Atom Heart Mother were better, until one day I decided to listen to it. And then I listened it again, and again, and again, and again... and again, and again, and again, and again... It is now definitely my second favorite album ever (The first one is Queen's Innuendo album).
Absolutely Superb Format now. Perfect.
We all need to listen to Pink Floyd's Us and Them. Like it's the first time, as it is for these people. Stop all this division.
Dark Side... talking about Us and Them. Look at the cover! This is a theme concept album. There is meaning in the literal lyrics sure, but like any great work of art, there is the meaning each one of us sees in it! The One LIght enters the prism of the world, and then becomes the many colors... Us and Them. This for me, makes that sax the most soulful, plaintive cry I have ever heard. This is universal. We can all be moved by this.
“Up and down, and in the end it’s only round and round.”
Pink Floyd for ever!!!!
Tool gets much credit where credit credit is due for the long form, suite style song, but no one can tell me that Us and Them...trying to watch it through the unwashed eyes, isn't absolutely beyond special. It is so special.
I was a wee child in the back of my uncle's 67 camero on the way home from whalom park. It is what made me become a saxophonist. I had the pleasure of seeing them on division bell tour...
You guys nailed it again Great job as always :o)
Of course the song is about War,especially ( I think) World War 1 when The Generals from the back and well away from the deadly action sent their troops forward to die in the thousands " On 1 July 1916, the British forces suffered 57,470 casualties, including 19,240 fatalities. They gained just three square miles of territory. ".......The situation perfectly encapsulated by the brilliant UK Comedy " Blackadder Goes Forth" starring Pre-House:Hugh Laurie, Pre Mr.Bean:Rowan Atkinson and Stephen Fry where after The General says to a terrified soldier about to,inevitably, die......"If you should falter then don't worry we are right behind you!" to which Blackadder replies " YES! About 35 MILES BEHIND YOU !" :(
Pink Floyd is a Philosophy as it transcends music....
Keziah and Crown Family GET IT! They 'FEEL' the music in their soul. I was vibin' out with them. 👌🎼🎶
Another journey trip to the brain and brain and emotions by Pink Floyd
keziah is just vibing......me too girl
Kudos and accolades to your video editing abilities. This song (and Pink Floyd) exceeds music barriers with it's timeless abilities. I know you have already done a Comfortably Numb Pulse reaction, but other people have experienced since and it would a great pleasure to see another Multi Reaction of them.
Hi coming from England
PF is the best band ever, in my opinion. Gilmour isn't a shredder, but I've ever "felt" guitar like what he constructs. And Dark Side of the Moon is arguably a top ten greatest albums of all time.
a simple song easy to learn and it grows on you, masterpeace.
