      I was just Jelaus they actually HAVE a Frozen Lake. I am from Nothern Germany. We didn't have Snow this Year

      That ice had minimal chance of breaking (to the point of them completely falling in) given how thick it appears. When given the chance, people in Minnesota like to skate on the "wild ice" of frozen lakes. In fact I guess this year was particularly good in conditions to do exactly that.

      A friend and I fell through the ice on a small pond when we were about 10. It was the very coldest I've ever been.

      @@SueChicago Saaaaammmmme. I literally did so alone because I was like 8 at the time and I was a very foolish kid. I could swim, but I couldn’t get a hold of the ice. My parents found like 5 minutes later and I nearly got hypothermia due me having a genetic hot and cold indifference. It basically means that while I can process coldness and heat, I can’t feel it. I can’t warm up using artificial heat or cool off in it either. I need the temperature to change outside or I could get hypothermia or heatstroke.

    Only after a while of watching did I realize just HOW thick that layer of ice was, cause I swear I was having heart palpitations watching y'all walk across that ice! I had no idea the ice could get SO thick! That's crazy! VERY cool video! I had NO idea how they'd survive, under the ice the whole winter long! Thank you so much for always being so informative!     For anyone who wants to try this after watching PLEASE test the ice in your area SAFELY FIRST, BEFORE walking on ice and NEVER go alone! Unlike turtles we can't live in cold water nor breathe through our butts, so safety first! ♥

    Seeing wild turtles brumating through a sheet of ice is one of the coolest things I’ve seen! Thank you for this video, I really needed to see cool turtles resting after a crazy day.

    I remember growing up in upstate NY and discovering this completely by accident one winter as a kid. The ice at the pond near my house had frozen thick enough to walk on with no snow on it, and I walked over to a rocky shallow area where it was very common to see painted and snapping turtles basking in warmer months. Sure enough, there was a whole group of BIG snapping turtles under the ice, just sitting there, and even a couple painted turtles moving around, surprisingly active like you saw.

    In my neighborhood my house has the biggest pond so we kinda become the turtle sanctuary and I have always wondered what that do in the winter, this is really interesting...can they tell when your ice skating?
