TOGO: ...what?
Blast22 hey, one thing at a time, here!
Nani!?
The irony is that not only did Windjammer Fail, Knott's had another ride with "Wind" in the name that failed: Windseeker. Riders got stuck up in the air for 3 hours and they removed the ride. Knott's should not use "Wind" in the name of any of their rides.
Oh wow! So that’s the windseeker that got stuck! Makes me wonder why ours (kings island and cedar point) are still operating!
nubiansnowchic the curse is only at knotts.
@Luciferus After the ride got stuck, Cal-Osha required Knott's to come up with an emergency evacuation system for the ride. Knott's built an emergency evac platform for the ride but it didn't get approved so they had to demolish the ride.
Knott's windseeker was moved to Cedar Fair park World's of Fun in Kansas City, MO!
I got stuck on that ride smh one of the scariest things I've been on

The best person for informing people about theme parks I never knew existed
Ha thanks
How did you not know about Knott's Berry Farm lmao
It’s worth the visit! It’s a 15 minute drive past Disneyland, and you can do everything there in one day.
Knott’s is one of the most famous theme parks in the US. If you’re familiar with Cedar Fair parks like Cedar Point or Kong’s Island, than you’ll be surprised by this fact: Knott’s is Cedar Fair’s most profitable park. Knott’s accounts for at least a quarter of CF’s profits.
What’s up with wizard
I went on this, that loop felt like being launched into a half pipe in a shopping cart. Cute looking coaster though.
Haha fun experience
The deco did always look intriguing.
Which track?
I take it Knott’s won’t be making a pin honoring this attraction for their 100th Anniversary pin set.
They might they don't shy away from the bad
Expedition Theme Park it will be interesting, that’s for sure.
I have a Windjammer hat and shirt lol
I went To their 100 year anniversary and they didn’t honor it lol they had sky jump, and soap box, time machine etc..
I never rode this, because it was always closed when I was there, but my friends always called it Neckjammer. It's too bad about the Boardwalk, as the rest of the park is beautifully themed, the back remains a mash up of 20's, 50's, and 90's.
Yeah !
yeh I think it should get a partial re-theme, keep the boardwalk theme but make it look nicer and replace coast rider with an s&s El Loco
I agree. I like Knotts, but parts of it look like the planners just got bored halfway through a school project.
They should have stuck with the 20's airfield theme with the Corkscrew, Sky Jump Parachutes and Wacky Soapbox Pacers. Wouldn't been more interesting than what's there today.
I don’t get why the advert for it was all “scary” when the ride is not scary themed at all?
in the ninetys all amusement park advertisements either had a dark or TOTAL RAD type of advertisement...
@@arposkraft3616 Yep. Just look at Splash Mountain's original ad (I know that was technically from the 80's but it was 1989 so I'm counting it since aspects of 90's pop culture were carried over from the late 80's anyways). Even though the ride itself is the usual light-hearted Disney fare, its ad had a very foreboding tone, with *heavy* emphasis placed on the big drop towards the end ("The only way out... Is a long... Way... Down...").
I think the main reason they marketed it that way was not only to distract from the elephant in the room that was the problematic origins of its theme (being based on Song of the South and all), but make it more appealing to the "too cool for Disney" teenage thrill seeker crowd.
@@bluedragon9925 Knowing Michael Eisner renamed it to promote the movie Splash and that he took theme park advice from his hip, cool, radical teenage son the latter feels more true than the former.
Well here I am looking at one of my fav channels for theme park fun, and I see that another favorite added a comment! Hi Roly! Love your channel! All my coworkers are tired of hearing me say Roly words with my horrible Brittish accent.

I love Knotts and am lucky I got to go on the Soapbox Racers, which I believe Bob Gurr developed. That corner of Knotts has always had an identity crisis ever since Soapbox Racers was removed; it never really knew what it wanted to be and thematically it never did it well. I was present on a day some 20+ years ago when a woman passed away on Montezuma's Revenge. At first the park was blamed but then we later learned she was a model and ate next to nothing. Her brain aneurysm was caused my malnutrition. Not long after that someone died on 19:42 the unfortunately named Perilous Plunge. Not to put too fine a point on it, but that woman was well over the weight limit and the restraints weren't working for her properly. Instead of being held in her seat at the top of the drop, she was catapulted out thus adding credence to the ride's name. I think about that every time I'm at a theme park and someone wants to argue with the ride operator that their kid should be allowed on despite the height limit, should be allowed on despite the fact they don't fit into the restraint system properly, etc. Please don't argue with the safety rules, people.
Fifthrider very good points and I see it a lot. The safety measures are the LEAST folks can do to keep all these rides running safely and not be shut down, or worse bring on injury and the loss of life
Splash ride with ejector airtime vibes
I have to confess, I stuffed napkins in my shoes when I was a kid to ride on Hammerhead. No joke, we started flipping and i slipped out of the shoulder restraints and held on for dear life. My feet were kicking the heads of the people in front of me. The riders to the left and right of me were seriously concerned. Lesson learned from that day forward! Never went on that ride again because of the traumatic experience. I didn’t say a word. After hanging on for dear life the whole ride, the people in front and all around asked if I was okay.
Long story short, I have kids now and never will they ride a ride until they meet the minimum height requirements. Period.
West coast racers the prequel
Haha kinda
More like the successful sequel
You know with all these problems coasters have with wind, easiest solution is just put up wind breakers. This ride would benefit with sails that blocked the wind in designated spots and also add to the surf theme.
Korwynias Wolfdrake or maybe add large fans to counter the wind. Might enhance the ride experience while combating... 3 mph winds 😂
Wind jammer was my first upside down coaster. Road it when I was 7 years old. Wow such good times
Good times indeed
Did you get the yellow side
Cool topic! A few corrections:
10:14- Most wild mouse coasters feature individual cars, not trains.
10:24- Viper was at Great Adventure, not Great America. And the shoulder restraints are totally different between the two rides.
17:25- This is important. Only one TOGO Ride, Shockwave at KD, had a fatal accident in 1999. While that year was terrible for coaster and thrill ride accidents in the US, the only TOGO ride that had a fatality in 1999 was Shockwave.
That is correct.
Windjammer was indeed in many ways emblematic of the worst era of Knott's Berry Farm. Lackluster theming, poor quality, bad maintenance, etc.
To be fair we did get GhostRider the year after Windjammer came out so I guess we ought to take the good with the bad.
Its amazing they still operate the sky cabin.. i operated that ride nearly 20 years ago and it was barely holding on for life back then .. i even opened the service door to watch the internals crawl up the pole for people
That's cool!
As we had just recently learned about what a codpiece was in British Literature class, this ride was infamously known as the “Codjammer” among my circle of friends in high school. In addition to the shoulder harnesses being incredibly painful, the seats on the train had a raised part in the groin region that... uh... jammed your cod, as it were. Rode it once, never wanted to ride it again. I was not at all surprised to see it ripped out just a few years later or to find out there were lawsuits filed . Such a shame too, it was a great concept and layout, but terribly designed and constructed. Best thing about it was the creepy carnival haunted house they had there during Knott’s Scary Farm. I am also eternally sad that they removed the Soapbox Racers for the Codjammer, I don’t blame them because it was indeed looking pretty haggard in its twilight years, but my nostalgia for it will always remain strong. The removal of the Soapbox Racers was made extra painful by the fact the replacement ride was so stunningly awful.
Codjammer indeed
I’ve always loved the content on this channel. It’s always well done, always informational, doing it in a fun way. Being a theme park enthusiast, and not being able to go to any this year is hard, so I go to this channel and others but by far you are my favorite
Thank you so much! Here's to hopefully a better 2021 for us all
Expedition Theme Park keep it up
If one day Cedar Fair finally decided to expand KBF, please make *Race to Atlantis* a reality. It's exactly what Knott's needs. More mountain theming and more indoor dark ride/coasters inside a mine.
Yes. Remove xcelerator and bring back the wacky soap box racers, or a journey to Atlantis type ride

The Manhattan Express coaster in Vegas is a heinous piece of machinery and must be destroyed. I hate that thing.
So bad
Hopefully if it does ever go away, they replace it with something else. A Chance Morgan megalite or a Gerstlaur Infinity Coaster would make a great replacement.
Desperadont has already been shut down, so yay!
You don’t know how much pain I feel when that coaster was my first thrill coaster, I didn’t feel pain tho I’m endurable
I remember the Windjammer. I rode it once with my family in 1997. I do remember it being a pretty rough ride, but aside from that I enjoyed it. Still got the souvenir photo lol

If 2020 was a roller coaster, this would be it.
Indeed
It's funny that they advertised Windjammer with a tornado, because I'd imagine that's what it felt like to ride it
Ugh. The shoulder restraints on this ride were horrible! My ears and neck were bright red after I rode this the first time. After that, the ride kept breaking down because it was poorly made - thanks a lot, TOGO! Anyone miss the Soap Box Racers? That was the best ride back in the day, and they replaced it with this monstrosity!?!? Thank you, Expedition Theme Park for this trip down memory lane! :)
Thank you!

@@pizzaplanettruck9761 The red track. The yellow track was always down.
Crazy! At 2:45 the listing just above the address you highlighted, was about a block down from my house growing up on Central Ave. in the small town of Middletown, Ohio.
I know that a big issue of American Togo coasters was steel manufacturing, the fact "Viper" at SFGADV was a random prototype they bought off the lot and "added rings" onto, etc. The thing I'll never got is how they didn't see a problem before this. Nor that the design was plain bad in areas like wth? They have actually made some really cool things-I'd LOVE to see an improved, non-maintenance nightmare Ultra Twister, and they made a pretty good hyper coaster. And a looping coaster at a smaller park not unlike Viper that isn't smooth but is longer and not legit painful like Viper was (if you didn't slouch on purpose), as some examples. The stand-ups would be fine if not stand ups too really, but that's me stand-ups=convert them to something else (SFOG I'm staring at you rn and GADV for sit-down too!)
Never buy a prototype from a test site. King's Island or King's Dominion (I can't remember which) made that mistake with the Hypersonic XLC.
Honestly your channel is my new addiction and I’m forever grateful!
I've only been to Knott's once, and I rode this thing... When it came to a stop, I can remember saying out loud how horrible it was. One of the only things I remember about my experience there. The other two was the wooden coaster there being fantastic, and the native American show was amazing. I wish someone would do a video on that.
Lucky you!

I remember all of these Knotts ads! Thank you for the 90s nostalgia trip, I was there opening day of Windjammer... the ride was awful.
A video on Roller Soaker at Hersheypark would be interesting, that ride didn’t last long.
Nice idea
I loved that ride! But I guess the maintenance problems on them was on par with Togo. I always thought Knott’s should have gotten one instead of Boomerang. It would have been awesome there, but in retrospect would have been yet another disaster I guess!
i've seen a lot about windjammer and knott's in general since it's the closest park to me, but i've never heard someone mention that atlantis coaster before. i'm always learning something new when i see your videos! they're so well researched.
I rode Wind Jammer. I knew it was bad the moment I went into the first loop. Glad it is gone. Very much miss the Wacky Soap Box Racers, and wish they would bring back a modern version of this. I also rode Xcelerator opening day. Boy did they check your restraints multiple times!
Red or yellow?
The first time I visited Knott's, this ride was already closed down, but hadn't fully started demolition yet. I remember ironically feeling bummed at the time that I missed the chance to ride it because all I knew about it back then was from pictures in books and on the internet (pre Social Media). After finding out just how rough it really was through CZcams videos and rider testimonials years after its closure, I now feel like I dodged a bullet...
I’m gonna be honest, the Race to Atlantis ride idea actually sounded awesome.
Much better.
Rode both red and yellow back in the day. Complete garbage. This is what happens when a park goes cheap. The flat rides where basically carnival rides. Wacky Racers was way better. Towards the end, Soabox Racers only ran 2 of the 4 tracks due to maintenance issues. I remember the day they told us as a former employee about the 5 year plan. The replacement was an utter failure. It was a sad ending to the Knotts family legacy, that I do believe resulted in the sale to Cedar Fair.
Oh man it was soooo bad and the fact that it replaced the Wacky Soap Racers is a shame. That was one of the best rides ever.
i really like how the advertisement for windjammer used the same creaming effect 5 times

Wasn't it rough or painful? And did you get the yellow side?
While I wouldn’t say i loved Windjammer, I do agree the theming of it was better than Xcelerator. From what I remember, which I was only 10 years old, it was pretty cool the “feel” of the ride (for lack of words) but it did jerk my head around quite a bit. But not as bad as Viper at Six Flags Magic Mountain! 😫

spoiledbabykitty I feel the exact same way. Nothing has ever been as good as the Soap Box Racers for me. It was the perfect fix for the Cycle Chase, had great theming, (until they let it go piece by piece), and was just a real fun ride. Oh I have to comment on this headache of a ride. I was a season pass holder and lived close enough to be able to go to Knott's to observe the construction progress. Windjammer was a sight and yea couldn't wait to ride it. Went there opening week to ride it. Initially the loops did not have the three connecting supports. Every time a train went through them, each loop swung side by side you would think they would break off. Knott's management was there with the rest of the crowd enjoying the new coaster going through its paces. I had to ask them if the loops are supposed move that much. They were no longer smiling. Forward in time, the ride was no longer smooth and every time, me and then girlfriend had to visit the first aid center for some generic pain reliever (Knott's was great with their first aid center back then.) Windjammer was visually great, but a totally nightmare of a ride.
