  • So you've just started driving and you want a car that is affordable to buy and insure, but also great fun to drive...could the Suzuki Swift be the solution ?
    Thanks to Worthing Suzuki, I got my hans on one to out it through it's paces and find out, and I was pleasantly surprised. It's well equipped, looks great and makes a great noise. It's real party piece though is how it feels to drive !

    My son bought the booster jet 2yrs ago. Absolutely fantastic car. He's been up&down the UK in it, totally reliable. We went to Birmingham the other week and I averaged 72mpg on the camera roadworks infested m1. As for the engine when you give it some it goes.

    Excellent review. Bought my Swift SZ5 Hybrid back in February. Love the car. It handles like a go kart and the performance is fantastic. The Engine growl is so good you end driving around with the infotainment system switched off. Yes the materials are not plush but that is weight based to make the car lighter and the build quality is excellent. I smile everytime i drive this car. Love it. And im 51!!!😀
    Its the renault 5 GT turbo that i never got.

      Hi Greg. Are you still enjoying your Swift? Is yours the 1.0 boosterjet, as reviewed here? Can I ask what sort of mpg are you getting on average? I mainly do town driving in my Mazda CX3 auto, and I'm getting max 35 mpg, so looking to change. I'm 52 so would be happy to hear your thoughts on your car. Many thanks Arron

      @@arryt3912 Hi Arron. Unfortunately I've sold my Swift now but not for any other reason than my circumstances changed and I needed a larger car. I was getting around 46mpg from what I can remember. After owning and driving the car for 2 years, I absolutely fell in love with it. Its very quick and the 3 cylinder engine is very barbly and gives a great sound on acceleration, hence why I've stuck with the 1 litre boosterjet suzuki vitara. My only gripe was the suspension as you felt the bumps. But do miss the thrill of driving it. Hope this helps.
      Regards Greg.

      Thanks for your quick reply Greg! The ride quality is the only thing that's holding me back really. I had a 2017 mini Cooper with the chili pack, afew years ago. Sold that because the ride was so firm. Mainly to do with run flat tyres I think. In hindsight, I should of kept it, as it was a lot of fun. It was the automatic version too, so was very quick. 4 new standard tyres, probably would of transformed it.
      Is the Vitara good fun with that engine Mate?

    • @gregpreston472
      @gregpreston472 Před 2 lety +1

      @@arryt3912 Yes. It's not as quick but when the boosterjet kicks in it pulls good and actually sounds better than the swift! It's a hell of a lot more comfortable as well. Couldn't afford the newest one with the 1.4 ltr engine in from the swift sport. Mine is the 2018 face-lift model as shown in car obsession. Very pleased with it. 😉

    But you said something wrong - it have 112 HP, not 109 and 170 Nm (can easy be chiptuned to 135 HP and 230 Nm).
    If you had a Exclusive version, you can move the steering wheel in 4 directions and not only 2 as in the version you drive in.

  • @HifiCentret
    @HifiCentret Před 5 lety +11

    Yeah. Nice car! Just bought one myself right hand drive and other color though but otherwise I think identically. Love the power of the engine. I think it sounds quite refined for a 3 cyl engine. I'm however mostly used to drive 3 cyl cars. My first one a Daihatsu Cuore L7 (or was it L701? got tachometer - was made in Japan). Still I somehow miss that car. While it lacked power on the highway it's 0-80 km/h was very good and 0-100 km/h still very reasonable - on the highway however it felt short. I then had a Peugeot 107. Nothing special to write home about though it had a little more power on the highway at the expense of 0-100. Don't think I'll miss that car too much. Paint job didn't stand to the environment nearly as well as the Cuore which had a lot less rust spots from stones when I sold it even though it had traveled a lot more and was older than the 107 when I sold that. The only really positive thing I has to say about the 107 is that it handles well and you can corner it everywhere without scratching anything as it (like the Cuore) is very easy to get a feeling for the cars dimensions. On top of that my 107 was unfortunately the newer one (think I tried an older one at the dealer because that was more response even though overall power was the same) meaning it had electronic throttle instead of cable like the Daihatsu. As it wasn't slow enough to begin with the electronic throttle on that model wasn't very responsive and I think it had some limitation of the power if it think you should gear down. If going 70 km/h in 5th and flooring it only very slowly you could hear the engine step into work - not instantly like the Daihatsu. So constantly even with gentle acceleration you had to gear down - the Daihatsu just happy accelerated even from 50 km/h in 5th gear and you could hear it instantly on the engine when flooring then pedal - again a totally opposite in the 107 - very tame.
    Then I got too sick of the 107 and wanted something 1 and ½ step up the latter and got the Swift boosterjet. A totally different experience. While it got lag because of the turbo it's still going to work faster than the slow 107. You however have to get used to it because if you just floor it you easily end up with too much power (newer an issue in the 107 :D) and beside if you foresee you need power then wait shifting up (like the 107 :-p) and the turbo will react faster. Well could I have the same car with a 1.6 naturally aspirated engine with same amount of power I'd probably opted for that to get rid of the turbo lag. Overall though I'm very happy with it. Time will tell how well the paint job will stand the test of time but the over all quality is just so much better than the 107. Also like they didn't put a turbo sticker/badge on it. Has surprised a few smart@ss€s already - oops I had the power :D God I hate when people take the wrong lane just to pull in on you with no room to spare as they (like you) want to turn ahead. Handles very well too. Have many of the Cuore's properties - very gocart like only larger. Unfortunately I don't know why all newer cars must be so hard to judge its dimensions - especially at the behind - so I'm still not comfortable turning on a dime and tight corners. But over all very nice car. Love the adaptive cruise control (extra cost at the medium trim level - which was a campaign model), reasonably quiet, with my driving pattern it is only a hair thirstier than the 107 but faster and a lot more fun to drive. Got a ton of info on its display like the usual mileage/consumption but also acceleration and all sorts of things you never knew you missed. So much you cant play with it while driving and I wonder why they even bothered putting it there (a safety risk). That it one thing you can be sure of - each new car the more electronic stuff for better and for worse. And by the way - mine is - like the Daihatsu - made in Japan - YAY! (I got the suspicion that the dual jets are made in Hungary and boosterjets in Japan). If you're looking for a car in that price/size you'll absolutely love the Swift boosterjet!

Im 50 and hoping to get one of these, and ive had allsorts of fast cars but at the end of the day, we have speed limits, and so long as it has enough power for comfortable cruising and climbing gradients without any fuss, whats the problem ? As for overtaking, yes, if something is going considerably slower on a country road, by all means pass, but if a car in front is doing 10 mph below the limit, so what ? For a few miles, it wont add an hour onto your journey will it ? Impatient drivers simply dont have a clue. Its a great handling car and can be enjoyed by anyone.

    insurance system in UK is absolutely ridiculous with the no claims system. It motivates people not to put a claim and that's why they don't stop to leave any detail if they hit you.

    • @PetrolPed
      @PetrolPed  Před 5 lety +1

      For some people maybe, but you are able to protect you no claims with most insurers and ultimately a claim free past with any insurer in any country will mean you have a lower premium :-)

    Thanls for this nice review Peter! Correct me if i am wrong, but i think you didn't make any comments about fuel efficiency. I 'm in between swift 1.2cc 90bhp and the 1.0cc you tested. Do you know what is the REAL fuel efficiency difference between the two? Thank you very much!

      Hi mate. If you look at the new norm numbers on Suzuki's website, you'll see : 19,6 vs 18 kms/ltr. of course that's a little optimistic for both. eventually yo can check owner's usage and much more on www.spritmonitor.de.
      I'm on the same journey as you : dualjet or boosterjet 1.0. Here in Dk you can get a much better deal on Boostejet 1.0 dem cars. On the other side, if you can manage with a Dualjet without the infotainment system and get a gramin Camping with a brake connected back camera, it probably resell better than the Boosterjet.

    In “sort of”, reply to 1BLUEMEANIE's comment.
    You're 22 years old. You’re down the local pub telling your mate you have just bought a Suzuki.
    He looks impressed and eagerly asks;
    “Intruder M1800?” “Err… Nope!” You reply
    “Hayabusa?” “Err… Nope!”
    “GSX-R1000?” “Err… Nope!”
    “V-Strom1000XGT?) “Err… Nope!”
    GSX-R750?” “Err… No!”
    GSX-R600? “Err… No!”
    Some 5 minutes later…
    “GSX-S125?” “No!”
    “Vanvan125?” “No!”
    “An Address then? “Sigh… No!”
    “So. What have you got then?”
    You proudly proclaim, “I’ve bought myself... A Suzuki Swift Boosterjet.”
    “Oh!” He replies looking decidedly perplexed. “You’ve got a power-washer then. I thought you’d got yourself some form of motorbike?”
    "No. It... It's... It is a ca..." You stop yourself from talking and dejectedly, you look into your empty pint glass.
    You bid your mate adieu and slink out of the pub to walk home in the cold and the dark… Sad and alone...
    Suzuki. Probably best on two wheels.
