This helped me very much on fixing my 09 Hummer H3. I was towing my boat in 107 degree weather and I started leaking coolant and therefore my temperature went up. I couldn't pin point where the problem was coming from since there was coolant everywhere, so I cleaned and dried it, came back the next day and saw that it was leaking from behind the pulley where the water pump is housed. Watched this video and ordered the 36mm wrench with the pulley holder and fixed it. Just like he states in the video, you MUST get the wrench and pulley holder. I don't know how you could do this job without it? Bought the 2 piece set off amazon for $20 bucks.
My 2 cents on doing this job is removing the fan shroud first. This will give you so much more room to work. Totally worth it. First, rotate the fan shield knob (its a small black handle on the passenger side) 270 degrees clockwise and then push in the two tabs on the top left and right of the shroud next to the top of the radiator and then you can pull it straight up and out. You have to work around the radiator inlet nozzle, but the shroud is plastic and can bend.
    2. Once that is out, take off a bolt on the LEFT side of the pulley and thread it back on with the pulley holder connected using the bolt you took off.
3 Use your 36mm wrench and break the fan bolt loose while holding the pulley holder for leverage. This is why you bolted it on. Rotate the fan until the main bolt and fan come off.
4 Take off the pulley bolts and remove the water pump. Clean the surface of the block where the gasket will mate to and put on the new water pump. I bought a Gates brand off of amazon for 35 bucks. Don't worry which way the gasket is facing, since it can only go on one way. Put everything back together and make sure you bleed the coolant system thoroughly. The 5 cylinder H3 takes 2.5 gallons of coolant.
Thank you Mike for creating this video.
Hope this helps the next guy.

Thanks or the detailed comment. I was not even going to make this video and I searched and watched other videos on how to do this job and they were terrible, so I thought I would make one that was better. I honestly feel this is the best video on CZcams on completing this job, and I am not even a mechanic🤣🤣 I love your tips and removing the shroud would probably be a good thing to give more space to work in. 👍

IT's not that hard, as long as you have the correct tools I have mentioned. 👍👍

Yeah you will need the fan spanner. The rest is pretty basic.

@@MikesManCave I ordered a 36mm spanner. Hopefully it's long enough. Otherwise I'll have to weld something to it haha

You will probably have to grind it down, I had a 36mm spanner, but it would not fit into the gap, and it was too expensive to grind down, but some are more slim line. See how you go. @@hugeslacker

@@MikesManCave This one is the thickness of a bicycle pedal wrench... It was off amazon labeled as a viscous fan clutch wrench. I have a grinder though if I need it!

Good vid, but the belt was difficult to follow. Do you remove it completely? We have a couple of H3T's in our fleet. Same process but very difficult.
