1st thing to know go to 40th
Yes, 🚨EVERYONE GO TO 40TH ST 🚨
I don’t have the cajones to paddle out at the Wedge but I appreciate this video 😂
I've visited with my camera a few times from Florida, with luck getting cheap flights and big days. It's a bodyboard showcase, as well as larger-board skills (bodyboards seem a much better fit, and skim can be spectacular). Surf-specific swimming skills too. Lifeguards are impressive: I've watched a broken-leg rescue. Watching in person is better than CZcams, partly because you can see things that don't generally make it into videos.
I'm 74, far too fragile for the Wedge, but last Labor Day, west Newport Beach made for water fun.
Last Labor Day was fun! Hope you get to visit for another swell!
@@BreakingEvenTV I'm old, far too fragile for the Wedge. On Labor Day, somewhere to the west rewarded bringing wetsuit and fins. Plenty of people bodysurfing and swimming, competently.
Craig, I'm 52 and honestly haven't ridden there since I was 22. Still friends with some old pros from the PSAA Circuit.I live my childhood from u guys. On really big days wear the leash. I'm talking the Eddie Solomon el rollo type swells.Giant days. It sux being out that far without your board. I used to ride with Bill Mckenna, Joe Foster, Bill Heper, Mike and Eric Huseman, Still good friends. Eric H beat him out in bodyboarding magazine for best move. It was a huge roll at the wedge. Mike Stewart 171 Eric Huseman 173 lol. Mike was my idol. My walls wer covered with his pictures. Thanks for bringing me back to my childhood. I have a couple wedge photos in Bodyboarding magazine from back in the day also from Ron Rominowsky. He was the dude before Beefs TV.
Mannn, idk about the leash still. I’ve surfed it on its biggest days within the last ten years and I still find it much more convenient & comfortable without one. Less to worry about as well.
@@BreakingEvenTV I thought I was going to die out there when it was giant. There's 12 to 15 and there's 15 to 18. It's breaking way out on those giant days and I lost my board and was way out, close to 100 yards. No touching bottom and in the washing machine. Got absolutely pounded on a giant closeout . The swells that knock the piers down. I'm much more comfortable when I have my board on those scary days. Ron Zeibel, and Dan Taylor were rippers from my day also. Ron broke his back their on a small day and is still recovering from the injury.
Separated my cartilage from my ribs surfing a slab last year. All waves can hurt you. Also made an impression of a cheese grater on super shallow reef.
I've had my leash almost strangle me on good reef days on multiple occasions. The risk surfing basically open ocean straight off the edge of a tiny Pacific island is you get caught in the rips, you'll end up in Antarctica.
Wedge looks like a fun wave that needs respect.
The leash is your best friend sometimes as well as your worst enemy !
@@BreakingEvenTV 🤣 don't I bloody know it mate!
@@BreakingEvenTV Norfolk island. It's just rock slabs and reefs with one wedge like beach break that runs right.
If you needed these tips your not ready
Seems like half the crowd out there already doesn’t know these tips🤷🏼♂️
Blackball!! 👎👎👎🤣🤣🤣
That’s a given, unfortunately 😂
Yeah I was hoping this was one of the things. I don't really know anything about it but it gets mentioned all the time.
So the wedge is blackballed from i believe 10am to 5pm in the spring/summer months for bodysurfers...no floatation devices allowed...its pretty shitty...can you confirm that info craig??
@@jeffconnolly127 that is correct, from 10am-5pm everyday, there are no boards allowed. It is enforced from May 1st to October 31st (the entire spring and summer season).
Wow! Attended many eary moring roller services a the Wedge from 1964 to 1980. Blackball ...sacrilege.
Also, large south facing rollers from Mexico every winter.
What has happened down there.
No idea what you're talking about....all lies! ;)
