Losing the touch pad is a huge leap backwards I think
You are correct.
@@goran2734 Think I will look at BMW next as they still have idrive
Save money I reckon , and sad to lose these very important functions in a car that would make driving more joy and safe .
@@martint251 They want you to use the steering wheel and in doing so, driving IS slightly safer. However, the new capacitive-type steering wheel is not a joy to use, so people will prefer the Touchscreen instead. For Mercedes this is a win-win tho - cheaper steering wheel and less parts to install by removing the touchpad while increasing the selling price.
It's a personal choice honestly, I didn't like at all... Never used it. We don't need 3 ways to interact with such a simple interface
Good video as usual Nick Not convinced to change my Premium Plus yet though I use the touch pad all the time strange to delete it.
I would not buy this car purely for the removal of the touchpad. So effortless to use on my CLA and much more conveinent. I would love to know why Mercedes thought that it would be a good idea to remove it.
I agree many people commended Mercedes for having the wide variety of options for use of their screens ie touch screen, steering wheel buttons or the touch pad. It’s strange they’d remove a method of usage knowing it was so well accepted
Add that to the changes of the streering wheel buttons and it’s just 😢
All about cost, saving them money, while no doubt charging the customer more for the new shiny model.
But wait, it has head-up display, surround view cameras and more USB ports...so did pre-facelift versions in other countries, just UK spec that didn't.
Face lift has more standard kit and the steering wheel looks and is 10 times better than the old version , don’t mis the tough pad as everything is on the steering wheel , it literally does everything, confusing at first but you master it fairly quickly
Take it away and put it back in a view years that is how they make money
Nick Great Video as always. Also could you do a video about the facelifted version of the GLE pls! Also digital light video would be cool
My daughter picked one up 2 weeks ago. Stunning. Great video Nick 😊
It’s a step forward outside and step backwards inside. Less customisation on the dials, removal of touchpad and less ambient lighting in the head rests and touch buttons on the steering wheel.
There was Lighting on the headrest?
A step forward outside with the 360 cameras but i prefer the daytime and rear lights look on the pre face.
Thanks for highlighting the difference in customisations on the driver display on #6 Nick. It pisses me off so much in my W206 coming from my old W177.
I kinda feel like an old record I mention it so much but missing this feature seems so daft.
Oh also the new steering wheel design took some getting used to, the buttons are kinda awkward to reach in comparison.
Hey Jealy, no worries! One of the reasons why I made the video so every can see the difference 🤓
you are the best- thanks so much!
Quite interesting to see that the UK didnt have the 360 and HeadsUp display before. I personally have the 360 in my pre facelift A class
I wonder if we will ever get widescreen support for CarPlay or Android Auto in older models.
Wasting 1/3 of the screen is just painful to look at...
No unfortunately.
so Mercedes is capable made Apple carplay full screen and they decided not to do that via update for old MBUX users who paid £300 for it
Slick video! The removal of the pad and fixed driver display options is a bit odd. Any word on AMG outputs?
Hey Keith, thank you!
There are Mercedes-AMG engines available like the A 35 & A 45 S 🤓
Thanks very informative reviews
No worries! Glad you enjoy them! 🙏🙏
This was a very helpful presentation.
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏
Hi Nick just wondering whether the current changes are available with software update - text from Australia enjoy your videos. One thing I like to get in my A250 AMG 2021 is seat settings operation also but told not available is on Mercedes me but does not operate- thanks Nick stay safe
Hey JWill, the changes are the facelift so no sadly it’s not a software update, it’s a new launch of a car.
Really sorry I wouldn’t know about Mercedes me availability on other countries you’ll have to ask Mercedes for exact specifics like that.
Collected mine a month ago now, done 1000 miles so far, premium plus A200. It’s very impressive in eco mode and a very quiet place to be. Steering wheel buttons are frustrating and there is definitely more time with eyes off the road looking at the screen or wheel to adjust things like cruise control! Overall impressive but not convinced more buttons and larger touchscreens make for a safer drive tbh
I’ve previously had four w205 c classes and a GLB, the A Class is one of my favourite next to the C300d I had
Do you have a full petrol a200? Couldnt find a facelift version of this
@@Moccalocca100I have the mild hybrid one 2023. Still no idea how to use it tho 😂
@@aandgsalon6737 nice. I got pre facelift. Couldnt live without the touchpad in the middle. Do you have any harsh sounds going over bumps btw?
@@Moccalocca100no it’s a very smooth one to drive around. I find it very quite actually and you don’t hear the charging noice like you would in other hybrid cards I guess. Btw mine is at the garage at the moment. Malfunction appeared on the screen and it didn’t turn on anymore . Mercedes took it to the workshop. Let’s see how it goes. Strange tho because it’s 2023 production 🤷🏻♀️
@@Moccalocca100I couldn’t live without the heads-up display and the the 360 camera😂
keep it up👍
🇬🇧 1st Class ‘A’ Class review, Nick. Thanks, as always. 👍🏻 🚘
Thank you! 🤓
Thanks for the video Nick!
Quick question, is the new model compatible with the dashcam that Mercedes provides?
There’s two types of dashcam that I’ve heard, one that they sell as an add on (a separate until from their parts section in their showroom)
And the other utilises the Augmented Reality feature with an option to turn it into a dashcam.
Spec varies round the world though and a dashcam can be heavily regulated depending on where you live so may not be available.
So chat with Mercedes and they can let you know the insider details! 🤓
Can’t wait to get mine next year 👍🙂🙂
Great video as always Nick! Do you think the 3d camera would be available as a software update for cars that already had a 360° camera system? I didn’t order a new CLA just because they removed the touchpad and don’t like the idea of sticky fingers on the screen. 😬😬 3:20
No sadly it’s a feature of the new generation multimedia system. Older systems won’t be powerful to render graphics in that way.
@@npoleary sorry but thats bs, only the UK did not get 360 in pre-facelift. rest of europe did get 360 cameras
Oh 360° they could have had if specs were in the UK
But not the 3D render moving around with your finger
That’s a feature of the new one
Another great video but still no mention of Adaptive cruise control ?
Hey Keith, specs do vary round the world when it comes to individual options so to maximise and appeal to as many people as possible, I try not to go into specifics about specs.
I did slightly in this video because it was exciting to see that there’s more spec on an A-Class than ever before, but double check with Mercedes for availability.
Hope that helps!
Hi Nick and thank you for a show us a so amazing car, I own a similar but 2021, and I think is a hug different with the oldest model, Nick I have a question if you have any idea how I can fix this problem, the nav system in my car have stopped to work, when I start the vehicle the nav system it's like this search to activate the system but nothing happen, before the nav system worked without problem, and i dont´n know what´s happened, i hope you can give me some tips to fixed this, thanks once again and keep doing so good videos to us we love Mercedes.
Hey Luis no worries! Glad you enjoyed the video!
Oh no, that’s not right, have you spoken with Mercedes? If you contact them, hopefully they might be able to help! 🤓
Love your channel
Could you explain the traffic delay icon -2 car symbol which appears at times -orange or yellow
Also on s class what does the leaf symbol mean in the mpg screen in the front instrument cluster
Thanks
Thank you!
Yellow is small traffic delay and red is heavy traffic delay.
Ah I’ve covered the Eco Display on other videos on my channel 🤓
Did it two years ago: czcams.com/video/CxDgVQ3v9NE/video.html
Same as bonus from start unless it’s an EV or hybrid etc
Very confused about the HUD-part, Nick. "Previously only available on AMG and selected models". You have always been able to get HUD on the A-Class (177).
Hey Luke, you can now get HUD on non AMG models in the UK. As always spec varies massively round the world though so it will be different in other countries.
6:54 i love how he first looks at the now missing touchpad to navigate to the home screen. I am about to order the 2023 a class but looking at how they are charging more for less pisses me of to the point im having doubts
I’ve gone to use it a couple of times in the new one when filming a review. I guess because it’s in quite a few cars but the newer styled multimedia systems (NTG 7) don’t have a touchpad.
Hi Nock, a quick question, do you know if there will be an update to the previous (pre-facelift) versión to have full screen Apple CarPlay?
I wish it was full screen too but there are other manufacturers who have come across the same issue before.
The reason is because MBUX (also known as NTG 6) on Mercedes is available in two screen sizes, 7” & 10.25”. When designing and coding I’m led to believe that you can only choose one (to maintain compatibility) for everything.
So to make sure it works on all models, Mercedes of course had to go with the 7” version, which is perfect for 7” owners but of course leads to a cropped experience if you have a 10.25” screen.
NTG 7 found in some new cars have higher faster processors and have one screen size leading to a full screen experience on Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Hope that explains potentially why it’s like that on some cars!
02:51 The 360 camera was available on the previous model, at least in my country (Sweden). I remember I test drove a A-class with 360 before I ordered my car. 😊
You could get 360° camera in other countries but this is the first time it’s in the UK on this car from what I’ve heard. And you can move the camera in 3D space which is cool!
Ok, I understand 😊, the 3D function is really cool. 👍🏻
Great content Nick. I have a question, how come there are no people when you are filming? 😊
Thank you!
It’s all green screen! 😂
Nah I’m kidding, people have made it into shots before if you look closely in a couple of videos. I’ve been quite thankful to Sandown that I’ve been allowed in after hours to produce the videos.
@@npoleary I kind of guessed it. You are lucky to get such a friendly dealership. Happy for you and all the best!
The new steering wheel is hideous, one of the main reasons I might not buy a Merc now. The old one looked good and functioned much better with real buttons.
Thanks nick. When I was in the dealership in Watford in April, they told me that the adaptive cruise control (distronic plus) was no longer an option on the facelifted a class. Can you confirm this?
Hey dav, really sorry I wouldn’t know as I only review the models and produce videos for CZcams. If you’ve asked a Mercedes dealership I’m sure they’ll be correct?
Specs always do vary round the world and for the UK, Driving Assistance Package isn’t available on every model when I’ve flicked through brochures.
Hi Nick, a quick question about changes. As far as you know, has there been any software changes to vehicles that would stop the locking capability of the small touch pads in door handles as in my 2020 CLA, this has stopped working. Thanks.
Hey Stuart, no that I’ve heard but check the battery in the key 🤓
That’s usually a sign it’s low, but not low enough to trigger a message on the dashboard
czcams.com/video/o2ZSzJVTWDI/video.html
@@npoleary Much appreciated, will check.
Do you think the almost full screen CarPlay will come as a software update for the existing cars with same display size? e.g., EQA?
No sadly not they’re not the same multimedia systems. It’s a new generation that’s out called NTG 7
Hi Nick,
Wife just bought the Premium Plus and loves the heads up display. Why not have the AR Navigation arrow on the heads up? Its great on the screen but would be fab on Heads Up
It can on some cars, but the cutout needed for an Augmented HUD is huge! As in it literally leaves a whole twice as big, so because of this you’ll normally only find it on larger cars.
@@npoleary Thanks for your reply. I'll let my Wife know. Keep up the great work. Love your videos!
On the sport exec model, are the ambient lights still on ?
You’ll have to check with Mercedes as specs vary round the world. If you get in touch with them, they’ll be able to let you know 👍🏼
I believe it is in the UK but check to be 100% sure
nice features for new cars. I hope next year i can upgrade to GLE 63S 😊😊😊😊
Bump in specification, bump in base price. Mostly a downgrade.
Can i skip songs on the steering wheel? My current CLA has the swipe gesture on the touchpad, which won't be possible with this model, will it?
If it's anything like the W206 C Class (same OS and wheel), then you can but it's not as easy as the swipe on top of touch pad.
You sort of have to move the cursor with a swipe (to highlight next/previous) then press OK.
Hey Janimi, yes you can as long as you have Media displayed on the steering wheel 🤓
Hi nice video is it possible to put speed cameras on the sat nav on the display speed warning alerts
Thank you! Yes but through Apple CarPlay or Android Auto: czcams.com/video/4wgA6bku3pI/video.html
Thanks
Seems to be a downgrade, not liking at all, preferring my 2019 AMG, looks like mercedes are trying to save money . 2018+ model has better build, steering wheel, touch pad, graphics also looks better on heads up display on 2018+ models, its a shame as I don't think I will be upgrading my AMG. Make sure to buy gloves as you're going to have loads of finger marks on screens.
Losing the ability to configure the left & right instruments cluster dials in the classic mode is a huge lose and appears to be something Mercedes eliminated from ALL facelift and later models. Added to the sensitivity of the soft touch button that controls the middle display, what is shown is constantly changing every time I accidentally touch it when turning corners. I wish it was possible to get back the ability to configure the dials and a way to reduce the sensitivity of the touch buttons, or ideally - lock them completely. Any idea if either of these are things Mercedes is reconsidering?
Assuming the heads up display is only on premium/ premium plus models? Just backdated and order for a 2024 plate amg line exec!
It was when I ordered mine but double check with Mercedes where you live (it varies round the world and over time).
Mine’s a premium and I would loved to have gone for Premium Plus, maybe next time! 😅
I like the old steering wheel much more
Would you happen to have a video on the A35 AMG sedan which covers all the features .. thanks
Hey Tiger1975, I do have a comparison between that and the A 45 S, so be sure to check out all of my other videos!
czcams.com/video/dKaK7-0bKTA/video.html
@@npoleary thank you, sorry missed seeing that video, love your commentary
No worries! There’s quite a few videos on my channel! 😉
I have just took delivery of my brand new GLC! I have set up Mercedes Me successfully and subscribed and have just received my new card in the post. It is asking me to activate my card but the instructions were unsuccessful and I have no idea on how to activate this. I’ve been on line, on the App and they all tell me to activate my card. But how? I’ve phoned the help desk who had no idea. This must be a simple way. Help.
How much for the new grille to pop in my 2019 car?
Not sure but if you speak with your local Mercedes they might be able to let you know!
Hi Nick does the new a class has mbux 7 or 6
MBUX NTG 7 🤓
hi, great videos...any advise on this, i have a 2024 a200 AMG LINE...Hardly hear any sound coming from the indicators...is this normal?? can i adjust? any advise please
Hey thanks! Glad you enjoy them!
I have an A-Class myself but haven’t found a way to increase them. I’ve found most Mercedes have quieter indicators to be honest when reviewing them
@@npoleary thanks for the fast reply, i have the a200 petrol 2024, the log book has come and its classed a hybrid electric which was a shock to me, the dealer states that all new mercedes are classed as this? do you have any knowledge of this please
No worries
Yeah! Most new cars are like this now, it doesn’t really change that much of the experience on the road, you ought to watch my review of the car where I demonstrate what it does.
👇
czcams.com/video/Sx2FtG094oc/video.htmlsi=A4uQuy74Krb8Xbrn
Most new cars have this tech, it’s basically like an extended stop start system. It can turn the engine off more often, start quicker and help accelerate you quicker too. All without “plugging in” like a plug-in hybrid. Helps bring the emissions down too!
@@npoleary thanks..great videos
Hi Nick a question not about merc what’s that smart watch you wear, ?
Ah that would be an Apple Watch Series 8 🤓
@@npoleary thankyou nick for your reply,
No worries! 🤓
Interesting. I have head up display and also the 360 degree camera in my current A250 2019 model. So the cars aren't all specified the same in all countries? I am in Australia.
Oh no defo not, I always mention in my videos as spec varies massively! (One of the reasons I try not to go through specs too much)
There are cars sold in countries without Sat Nav! Some have cooling seats, some have heated seats, some even have adapted suspension.
Depends on a variety of factors!
Hi John, Is your 360 degree camera still working automatically (popping the camera screen on the Mbux screen) when sensing close objects? Something changed in August 2022 & changed my 360 camera to a manual, put in reverse or use the assisted parking button camera. This change happened when my car was only 8 months old & Mercedes is saying the camera only ever worked manually. Total BS, because I used the feature daily to park in a dodgy carpark at work. In all the 2022 models with the same software/tech, they all now have manual cameras. Thanks Mel
August 2023, it changed.
more premium options as standard in UK for the same price as pre facelift IS NOT AN UPGRADE
Good 👍
Where would I find the difference between executive, premium premium plus??
Mentioned in another comment on another video, if you contact Mercedes they can let you know. Or on their website on their eBrochures or configurators will list them too.
It varies round the world so best to check with them!
Nick can you cover the new Mercedes CLA?
As soon as it arrives yeah if I can! I’ll keep an eye out when I pop in!
Yes,finally full screen Apple Carplay
@nickoleary IS IT POSSIBLE TO TURN OFF TOUCH SENSITIVE BUTTONS CAUSE THAT WOULD BE A GOOD FEATURE
Just had 1 for 2 days. Wouldn't buy one as all the extras have been taken out but still want 35k for it. I will be keeping my premium plus version thanks.
A little question here. will the A class end for the rest of the world too? really wanted to see it eat market shares with other compact premium going into tje unknown era😮
Hey David, I’ve heard rumours of this but Mercedes have not confirmed anything, they have just released a facelift so I don’t think it’s going anywhere anytime soon!
@@npoleary thanks for your answer.
No worries! 🤓
@Nick O'Leary will there be a new CLA?
Mercedes did announce one so I believe so! We’ll have to wait and see, shouldn’t be long now
I think this is the hardest vid you have made to stay positive about the facelift 😂😂
Wasn’t hard at all, I’d buy one! I personally did use the touchpad but the other things like Wireless CarPlay and larger CarPlay screen make up for that 😛
Facelifts are always incremental upgrades anyway!
Weird mine is a 2021 a class and my car has 5 usb c ports.
I think there was an option on smartphone integration that gave you more but the extra ports are now standard in the UK 🤓
Even VW did went for some brains with removing the haptic buttons on the steering wheel in their Golf as it's a terrible thing to have and use. Not user friendly at all. Shame that the Golf Variant is such long wait time to be delivered (1yr) atm.
Many thanks again! Honestly I’m disappointed with Mercedes for taking away the touch pad. I use mine a lot and it looks great as well. The new one is a strange shallow pot that’s not much use for anything. Also why on earth did they remove the feature that allows you to change the driver left and right dials independently. Hopefully, by the time I’m ready for a new Mercedes-Benz they will have at least done something with that pothole. I know, first world problems etc.
Ah glad you enjoyed the video!
Having bought a brand new car without the touchpad, honestly you do get used to it. Most cars only have one form of input anyway so it’s just something that you get used to. In fact, I’m currently in a rental car with a touchpad (see why on my latest video) and I’m not even using it 👍🏼
For the display, not sure but it’s a new telematics generation, so changes will always be made. They’ll be a new one next year in the E-Class which I can’t wait to test out!
But I have head up display and 360 camera on my prefacelift model already.
Are you based in the UK? This is the first time items like this have been introduced onto non-AMG variants
@@npoleary I from Estonia.
Ah specs vary massively round the world! First time that they’re on a UK one 🤓
Hi, Is your 360 degree camera still working automatically (popping the camera screen on the Mbux screen) when sending close objects? All of our 360-degree cameras have been changed into an only manual camera. This change happened when my car was only 8 months old & Mercedes is saying the camera only ever worked manually. Total BS, because I used the feature daily to park in a dodgy carpark at work. Thanks Mel
Removing the options to change the dials is a step backwards! Who cares about preset themes?
I prefer to customise the disks s as ms have the map on the right dial
Touch controls on the steering wheel is the main reason I'm not getting a Mercedes :/
What would you go for instead?
I have a 2023 facelift A200 AMG line executive. The bad bits…..the display on the dash screens are more crisp but the customisation limitations / changes are a letdown i.e red moon feature is not the same as pre model it’s red now and not pink doesn’t look as good. Don’t like the touch button steering wheel at all as it’s not very responsive and the centre merc emblem looks too big. Also the mild hybrid is hardly noticeable also the horn has changed it now sounds like a single tone horn. The new style rear lights are not as bright as pre model although the design is better. As for the headlights there is no projector lens which I liked. Good bits…..wireless charger no messy cable to think about. MHEV does make it noticeably faster than pre model by 13 or so BHP although it’s not as responsive acceleration wise as pre A200 I.M.O. There’s not as much boot compartment rattle as pre model was. It’s nice not to have the old touch pad there instead there’s a handy compartment but I do miss it occasionally as it was better for navigating the mbux system keep touching the screen is annoying. It’s a smoother drive compared to the new BMW 1 series which is why I bought one. But definitely overpriced at £36,180. More features should be on it for that money including LED interior roof and floor lighting.
Thanks for sharing! I’m hoping to make a follow up video soon on my car! 👀
@@npoleary
Hi could you please confirm if poss that the horn has been changed on the facelift or is mine faulty cos I’m pi$$t if has. Thanks
@jontwigg7445 I’m going out in my car today, I’ll let you know. I haven’t used it yet 😂
@@npoleary
Thanks I appreciate that. I know it’s minor but I don’t understand why they changed it, sounds not a deep as pre a class. Also have you ever heard of the A class right hand wiper hitting the A pillar windscreen - panel trim
There’s always changes on new cars when they come out, some could be use of use etc.
No I haven’t but as with all cars they’re adjustable so it might need a quick tweak. If you contact Mercedes they’ll be able to help!
Mercedes UK constantly tinker about with options, removing & adding at will. They removed the HUD & 360 degree cameras the CLA on the 2nd product run & most the options & put in packages instead. They won't let you change wheels etc you have to buy a package that they have decided for you. Any other country you get have almost exactly what you want, but not Mercedes UK. They now fit a 100W 6 speaker stereo in many even costly vehicles, no option for the premium Burmeister 13 speaker system. Awake up call is baby needed for marketing !!.
Old tech that my GLC has installed for years
Oh yes larger and more premium models always have more gadgets! 🤓
GLC’s are great!
Hi, does your car still have an automatic 360 camera?
The American version of this car with the tech is way better mines a 2021 a class and my tech is better and has all this already.
quite disappointing, more standard spec but then the car is priced much higher, worse steering wheel, less driver screen customisation, no touchpad. clearly an end of series upgrade
I am gonna be made when they " upgrade" mine mbux to this... overal a downgrade
Great to see the features are catching up with the Mazda 3
These features have been available since the car launched in 2018 just not in the UK market. Hopefully the Mazda 3 can catch up and get a proper engine producing more than 190hp?
Feature number 11: Worse build quality than a Dacia Sandero. This brand is hugely disappointing these days. The cost cutting is so obvious and evident and removal of the touch pad is a very bad idea that's pure greed and cost cutting at this company. So over them.
This feels like a downgrade and an ugly steering wheel.
Oh really? I mean the touchpad isn’t there, it certainly has more standard specification now and yes the steering wheel is different but you do get used to it
There are far better cars at this price point with better build quality and more features. Now if the build and material quality was second to none, the lack of standard features like adaptive cruise control would be okay. But the build and material quality sucks. There's no reason for this car to be so overpriced.
Looks like more finger prints on the screen is unpreventable.
To avoid finger contact on screen, set sat nav either with touch pad or little button on steering wheel only.
Also use touch pad to fast skip a song when the screen is occupied in another mode ( such as showing traffic light etc ) which is very convenient but literally can not now.
Other than that every bit of improvement seems legit. 🫶🏼
You can tell the car to skip track ahead and back without using the touch pad. I I stalled a one piece glass screen protector right after I purchased my 22 CLA. So easy to maintain and worry free.
