- Results Below! I compare load times while controlling all variables of the startech ide2sat2 adapter vs the cheap adapter that most people recommend. There are significant differences in both price and performance.
cheapo
ux bootup 2:28 - 3:09 = 41 seconds
halo 2 load 4:11 - 4:56 = 45 seconds
coinops dd3 5:42 - 6:25 = 43 seconds
startech
ux bootup 8:00 - 8:20 = 20 seconds
halo2 load 10:05 - 10:25 = 20 seconds
coinops dd3 10:57 - 10:40 = 43 seconds
CoinOps was 43 seconds for both tests. This implies that the wait isn't due to throughput of the storage device but rather the zip extraction of the cpu.

if I ever use a SATA adapter. It will be the one that you recommend. The first one took extremely long. IDE would be way faster. The second one is almost like running a ide hdd..good video!!
The DVD optical drive continue to work with the startech adapter? I have already had a problem with a fastest adapter.
I tried it and it doesn't work for me, while a generic Chinese IDE/SATA adaptor does.
With Startech it goes like this: the startup sequence stutters, the screen goes black and nothing else happens (I've waited multiple minutes each time).
With generic Chinese it goes like this: the startup sequence plays properly, it takes a longer while for the Microsoft logo to appear and the Xbox launches correctly.
No idea what I'm doing wrong.
Where did you get the molex cable on the startech converter?
Hi
We’re you using a SATA HDD or SSD attached to the Startech adapter? Looks like all power comes from one power source via adapter board to Your storeage device.
I've had one of those cheap sata adapters toast my hdd. The hdd got so hot it you could cook an egg on it
opened dew you monster!!!
just got some of these adapters. Does the 80pin cable really needed? Im having very weird format errors when trying this. I have not gotten a SSD or a Sata hdd to fully function as of yet. the 80pin cable is my next trial
Yes the 80 pin cable is ABSOLUTELY needed.
Well I hope that is my issue....on my SSD it shows up all zeros and says unlock error. Im trying to format it with my old EVOX disk i had edited to my liking but its worked for EVERYTHING for hard drives until this. I fixed these systems alot for a repair shop back in the day. and when I do a normal sata drive (non-SSD) it formats weird....one moment C shows 0 meg...others times it wipes the F or E drives...very weird. tried this on two different hard modded boxs with same-ish results.
I tried a SATA HDD and had weird issues while booting using a 40-wire IDE-cable. Well, it only booted into an error screen that was cut off diagonally! With the 80-wire IDE-cable it worked.
Forgot to tape the molex connector god damn
i use the cheapo one shown in this video and it loads a hell of a lot faster than this, straight into xbmc4gamers, boot time significantly shorter than what you showed in this video, so i dont know why yours took so long, also to mention i use a standard sata drive not ssd
hi. someone, a modding service told me that Star Tech are like "sometimes work/sometimes don't". Have you found this? I'm very new to the modding scene.
lol. startech always work. That modding service didn't know what they were talking about.
@@ogxbox thanks man. that's what I thought.
Thank you for the video! Does this Startech SATA adapter work with a cloned SSD of the original Xbox software with no mods? Please advise.
Yes
The boot time on the green adapter is absolutely tragic. No way I am going to put that garbage into my Xbox whatsoever. I am glad I managed to get the good old Agestar STI-2 adapters since their PCB is not tall, they even come with protective foam on the PCB and are at least as fast as that Startech one...
Its a 5 second difference
which one is better?
StarTech is the only thing I use
