I think the sounds of the screams was the most unsettling part lol
100% agree, although the whole scene of everyone screaming inside was horrifying lol.
@@jasonclarke92 horrifying is an understatement 🤣🤣🤣
Reminds you of hearing people at a carnival from a distance going up and down on rides.
@@sk8mafia214 Facts but this time..People aren't having fun. The screams of the trapped people before the blood rain and that stupid biker made me feel numb. The inside scene didn't make it any better.
No, the immediate silence was.
Jordan Peele's approach to filmmaking is so damn refreshing. Well written Brand new IPs with interesting high concept plot elements. It's so satisfying to watch his films.
I really like this movie. It’s crazy that some of the characters didn’t learn the lesson: you cannot tame wild animals especially for profit. People still haven’t learn from Jurassic Park.
That’s the real tragedy of Jupe, he thought he had a special connection with animals after surviving Gordy but in reality he never did and it bit him in the ass with Jean Jacket after trying to make money off it. In the end, animals are animals and they should be treated with respect and not out of self-interest
Not just that, you also can't befriend them either. No ET the Extraterrestrial or How to Train Your Dragon bullcrap, non humans simply can't relate with us no matter how much we think we love them (domestic pets aside, and even then)
Slick play on words.... But that type of thing only works when.... The spectacle is content with being one...
When the spectacle wakes up... Jean jacket...
Not every spectacle is a corrupted one if it's done right and humanely than yeah what happened to gordy was the example of a corrupt spectacle but riding and taming a horse (which is OJs family biz) or taking a documentary of an animal in the wild without it even knowing your there is the right kind
When I first watched the movie and discovered it’s plot it basically is Jurassic park with a living flying saucer instead of giant carnivorous birds resurrected from the Cretaceous period, if you go off the moral principle of the movie
The screams were really creepy and unsettling, but the scene where it was over the house and all of a sudden those screams STOPPED That was way worse !
The pronounced crunch was really something
And the rain of blood too is very diabolical
@@LordTYbierius yup
I liked the thought out monster design. It was clear where the inspiration drew from. The comments saying the movie would've been better with traditional alien designs.... There's plenty of movies with those types of aliens, go watch them 😂
The fact that it was a straight up alien movie but with unconventional themes and monsters, that’s what made it good
Looks like a bigger version of Calvin from Life
Fun fact: The monster was Jordan in makeup
People are too dumb to appreciate originality or creativity nowadays.
@@mymomsbasement69 it still was eh
I didn't realize that the 3 cameras at 5:48 look just like the alien masks the 3 kids wore
Oh damn I never thought of that
Oh; you’re good.
Omg I was just about to comment that too! Such a crazy subconscious visual to include which shows why the aliens Jupe made look the way they do. After all he must have seen those cameras a ton while on set.
Pretty much everything around jupe is modeled after his trauma
If you look at his workers before they all get eaten by JJ, they all use the same uniform as the chimp did
3:06 I love that description so much. It's basically like JJ is doing the equivalent of when you "tut" or click with your mouth to get your cat to look up at you. It's trying to "pspsps" the people into looking at it. Freakin creepy and I love it
FUN FACT: The sounds of the screams were overlaid sounds of Joy (like on a roller coaster) and sounds of Fear (almost also like on a roller coaster).
I love how the alien while clearly inspired by sea life it can also look like a biblical angel just a swirl of flesh
Was really impressed by this movie. The digestion scene will stick with me forever!
I'll forever remember seing that scene for the first time. My friend and I just slowly looked at each other in the dark theater with our mouths hanging open xD
I love Jean Jacket's idea taken from Jellyfish given that its unlike most alien movies where it is the generic type of UFO where there are lights and sci-fi-ish sounds so compared to Nope, its like a new idea where we get from a specific animal. So applause to you Jordan as well as the Akita inspired shot and making Angel the down to Earth Pinoy character in a horror film, also making him survive the movie
That’s what I was thinking of what it looks like!!! A jellyfish!!!
Interesting note: the tarp Jupe uses over the horse cage has the same green colour and similar texture. The way it closes around the horse the same way JJ’s mouth does
This movie was crazy in IMAX, and when I realized the opening credits were the insides of Jean Jacket, now overlapped with human silhouettes and screams, that really got me and it's one of those cinema experiences that'll stick with me forever, such a freaky scene I didn't even notice the horse cause I was so shook looking at the people being digested
I absolutely LOVED Nope, the creatures design that haunts you (for ever) was sublime! I even stopped the movie and went frame by frame to really enjoy its design to the fullest!
I truly enjoyed the film, the monster design was very interesting. I liked Us but imo this was his best since Get Out. Damn good movie.
@Hunter He just produced Candyman, he didn't direct it. Candyman was crap to me but to each his own. The original Candyman was better than the 2021 version.
This movie was definitely very scary. The scene with the monkey actually made me kind of scared of monkeys ngl.
This movie has unsettled me in a way I never thought I would again. I haven’t been creeped out by a movie like that since I was a kid
It’s almost illegal how many times I’ve watched this movie
the scene when hes in the barn.. and you see random shadows.. even tho it turns out to be kids.. such a great scene.. the suspense
I noticed a visual square motif also. I associated it with the 4:3 aspect ratio of older media. I got the sense as I was watching that there is a lot of referencing of cinematic and screen media history. I enjoy easter egg type things and I like having symbolic associations to chew over and spew out my butt after I finish processing them. I missed the green association though. Still more to digest with this film. lol Thanks!
When I first saw Nope, I thought the design was similar to a weather balloon. A reference to the UFO / weather balloon that crashed in Roswell, NM.
I’ve been waiting for this to be pointed out.
I don't care what people say Nope was Dope!
@Hunter haha I see what you did there
Yes indeed
This movie rules, so glad I went and saw it in a theater
Same here. The RPX theater worked well for it(Closest I can get to IMAX at the time), the sounds of the creature was so loud in there including the screams which made it sound like it is outside just waiting for us.
As a believer/UAP experiencer.. this is probably my favorite fictional UFO/alien movie. I can tell Jordan pays attention to the current understandings in ufology making the craft organic.
loved this movie so much! i enjoy hearing peele break it down, too!
I don't know if this has ever been pointed out by anyone yet. I just noticed the massive symbolism displayed at 1:07 - 1:08:
- The lampshade is a literal representation of Jeanjacket, in its shape and circular opening.
- The lampshade in it's representation of Jeanjacket in that scene is directly aligned with the monkey, and that alignment depicts how later in the movie Jeanjacket just like the monkey is made into a moneymaking spectacle. Also, later in the movie, Jeanjacket equally just like the monkey violently turned the tables on his spectators who made eye contact with him/her/it by tapping into his/her/its true alpha predatory nature.
* There's one more obvious symbolism in that scene that I've yet to figure out, and it's that upstanding shoe in the background. I do suspect that the shoe standing after all the mayhem is probably a symbolism that OJ inspite of witnessing and being a part of all the mayhem Jeanjacket exacted on everyone (OJ included) that OJ in the end remained standing against all odds like the shoe. Of course, this will mean that OJ never died (which goes against the generally accepted interpretation that OJ somehow died because of the "Out Yonder" sign/picture).
On a side note, at 6:26 - 6:27 you'll see the shadow of someone get sucked up by Jeanjacket flying past behind Joop's head on the ground lol
And at 0:16 OJ's hoodie has patches that look like eyes strategically placed to look like as if the back of OJ's hoodie is make unending eye contact with Jeanjacket while OJ is trying to lure Jeanjacket while riding his horse.
I've just watched Nope today and only just noticed the lampshade's resemblance to the alien because of this video. Came to the comments to see if anyone else had made the connection. Well spotted.
Didn’t think it would be scary but it was one of the most creepy movies I’ve seen in quite some time.
Jordan Peele’s career is mirroring M. Night Shyamalan…Get Out is his Sixth Sense, Us is his Unbreakable and Nope is his Signs. Thematically, they are linked. The titles have weird similarities and structurally they are very similar…Just a thought…
I love the detail where the film reels on the set cameras in the Gordy scene look like the faces and eyes of the alien costumes the kids wear later on
If anyone notice there's a slit at the middle of the "ufo". Specifically EVERYTIME someone looks at it the front of Jean Jacket is seen.
ALSO during the scene where OJ is trying to help Ryder you can see Jj in the bikers reflection so in reverse its oj "looking up" in the sky catching Jean Jacket's attention. During that scene you can here a loud BOOM sound, specially what is happening that Jean Jacket is breaking the sound barrier similar to jets flying fast in the sky.
Walked into this movie expected something similar to Signs, walked out satisfied that I was more close to Jaws. That sums up the movie.
i love stuff like this! i havent seen the movie bc lets be honest i am a WHIMP when it comes to horror, but i love hearing about all of the details that go into making a movie like this. i could watch bonus features for HOURRRRSS
Damn, I don’t think anyone asked for this but thank god we got it! Bless you, Rockstars 🙏
The visions and executions of this original idea has me itching for more like this. Jordan peele is a new wave director still, and the way he pays homage to old movies/shots is beautiful
The sound design reminds me of hearing a carnival going from a distance and people going up and down on the rides.
Best quality to the movie for me was that it was advertised to play with our minds into thinking an alien movie, but it turns out it wasn't, but was still. An alien movie, not a movie with aliens.
love this movie more everytime i watch it
I loved the twist of this movie. So cool.
This movie was so awesome and original
My kindergartener was yelling "that's a rectangle! That's a rectangle! Tell him those are rectangles!" 😆
Amazing movie loved every second of it. The little child aliens costume look like the camera spools too just realised !
Scariest? Nope. The little alien kids in costume was creepier than the monster.
The offically acknowledged influence of ocean life like jellyfish just strengthens my speculation that the creature is from Jupiter, a gas giant, and lived afloat in the clouds, preying on other cloud-based life forms.
How it got here…I’m still working on that part.
The part where it is from Jupiter is a good idea but I think there is more evidence to suggest that Jean Jacket is native to earth. I have seen the film 15 times now and see no real evidence that it is from anywhere else but more evidence that it is from Earth. Now that Jupe and Jupiter is a correlation is cool and I can’t dispute that connection but possibly since Jupiter is a gas giant it alludes to Jean Jacket dying to a gas?
@@jpscientist23 Maybe the helium was something of a Kryptonite to it? Maybe it was just a pressure overload for its fragile physiology?
I just found it odd that the kid was named Jupiter of all things and the name of his amusement park was “Jupiter’s Claim.” As in, the thing was literally CLAIMING things from it.
@@docdaytona108 Yeah and the pressure change like that I think would limit Jean Jackets ability if entering the atmosphere like that and if there is no air in space how would it travel through space if it’s alive it most likely breathes something. But that is the best evidence I have heard that Jupiters Claim was Claiming Jean Jacket.
@Hunter And the argument here is that it is not from another planet and that it is not an alien. Maybe we will know more when the scientific manuscript comes out.
One of my favorite movies this year! Can't wait to go out and buy it!
The Monster was also based off of the Angel from Evangelion called Sahaquiel, if you look at the Angel then The Monster you will see the influence
In later versions one transforms to the other while in the original anime they were all their own creatures.
I loved this movie so much. I’m hoping some awesome bonus features are included with the purchase. My favorite movie of 2022.
Just saw this recently and I loved it
The Akira motorcycle slide was epic 🔥🔥🔥
Absolutely amazing movie, everything to it was perfect
It's been like 3 months and i still discover new things about this movie
Jordan Peele is the KING of Easter Eggs!!! You literally have to watch his movies over and over to catch MOST of them, because I guarantee some are still hidden in plain sight and we miss them. Nothing on the set of his movies are by mistake or chance. 🤣🤣🤣
i really need to rewatch this movie, so good, but one thing thats been on my mind since the last time ive seen it was the part near the end where the alien does some sort of gesture with its eye/mouth towards the jupe balloon in the sky, i always thought that maybe this was also a symbol of the eye taking a picture, or multiple pictures of it, and although i know the alien is supposed to act like a wild animal as its connection to gordy implies, i first saw it in the trailer as a connection to cameras with the eye of course being the a lens-like circle shape, and this would also tie into the theme of spectacle, just as the siblings are trying the capture the alien, the alien is trying to capture them, effectively making the entire plot a spectacle in the aliens eyes
the three Panasonic cameras look like the three kids in costumes that are hanging around the alien show
I knew I wasn’t just hearing that shit when I saw it! Those background screams are the creepiest things you hear.
The opening of the movie where it's the clip of the first motion picture down its mouth I was sitting there thinking why are we going down a gutter. I was like wait what was that
When the movie came out, I bought tickets to help with the gross, but didn't go see it. I ordered the DVD and received it yesterday. I'm going to wait until Saturday and watch it... with all the lights on!
I love the sub context
We need to discuss the alien costumes and the 3 white cameras that look like the aliens when the monkey is out of control
I know it doesn’t have anything to do with it but the creature when in sort of ufo mode always made me think of the bottom of a cowboy hat, the rim and the hole your head goes in. Maybe My brain is just reaching because of the ranch theme and stuff
Weather ballon
I didn't understand the movie when I watched it in theaters. Now you made me wanna but it.
Loved this movie!!!
Thank you for breaking this movie down❤❤❤❤❤
Before the extraterrestrial animal opened up, I was thinking sting-ray
Crazy, this released RIGHT after i watched it
I didn't think it was that scary had me laughing most of it but maybe that says more about me 🤣🤣 great movie all in all
Pumping out the content keep it up this movie I kinda was pretty good 👍 I actually loved us also peele is on point
I always thought Jean jacket looked like a jelly fish, I think that’s really cool I could tell. It just felt familiar
Found it funny how jellyfish don't actually have brains, they're unknowing and uncaring about the harm they cause. Sort of like how Jean Jacket (despite being far smarter than a jellyfish) is still nothing more than an animal operating on instinct, feeling nothing for and knowing little about its prey.
I watched this. This is really scary. Well thought cinema.
I enjoyed watching this movie. 💯
A massive eye that consumes everything it sees. Ravenous. Unrelenting.
Nope was so good my favorite Jordan peele film and mostly because of keke
I just noticed the lampshade on the floor in front of the chimp looks like the creature. In watching the movie a second time I noticed the light in the stable at the beginning of the movie also looks like the creature.
Brilliant
Great content as usual voss and everyone at new rockstars but would have loved like 30 or 40min in-depth breakdown the more the merrier
Kinda fitting when it gets killed by the Ballon at the end it spent its last moments in fear and pain being agonized by something it didn't understand just like all those people only difference was it needed to die
I love how the point of the movie is spectacle and the video ends with "buy the video" and "follow me on social media"
I keep seeing people say that Jean Jacket's eye is also it's mouth and I find it kind of funny that a lot of people don't just look at the surrounding area and turn their brightness up or something and see that there is light shining only from the lower part of the screen when we see the eye which is the same place the actual mouth (the hole) is. That's where the light is coming from and it seems pretty obvious to me if you look at those scenes, so how come people are still saying the green box eye is the mouth?
Because lots of people aren't observant and just go off what they saw someone else say
@@Hollycb12 Exactly!
Can we get a deep dive on this one.
I love Peele as a director and he is brilliant at resetting horror back to what it should be about; a movie that causes anxiety for what will happen next, while also changing those typical horror tropes.
2:20 when I was a kid I was walking in the shallows when I slid my foot into somethings mouth.
I distinctly remember teeth pressing into the tops and bottom of my foot but I also remember the feeling of the hinge of the mouth being wedged on either side, either way whatever it was, it was more interested in getting away at that point and I never actually found out what it was.
Kept me out of the water for the rest of the day thats for sure.
I have to admit I'm of two minds about this movie. As an SF horror action flick it's great, but as a "meditation on spectacle" I always have problems with stories whose final "message" is to tell the audience they should feel guilty for liking stories (q.v. Funny Games and The Magicians). It's like baking someone a birthday cake which says, "Birthday Cake Is Bad For You, and You Shouldn't Eat This".
I loved this movie
no, jean jacket was not "entirely" based on sea creatures. peele has also confirmed it was based on angels from Neon Genesis Evangelion as well.
What makes Jean Jacket scarier is that it may not even be an alien, rather an ancient species of megafauna that’s been soaring Earth’s skies for millions of years.
Yeah I was thinking that as well. It was way to well adapted to earth's environment to merely be alien.
Well honestly; with the atmosphere it’s self, being of the thinnest layer of water molecules able to be “measured/detected” the monster resembling aquatic an life-form makes perfect sense to me.
I loved this movie.
Now that we are enter in a time in year that is no big show streaming (since only andor is going for now) i think that would be cool more videos like this one, about other movies not that famous or in a big franchising, anyway, nice video, think on this
Haven't seen anyone mention that the masks Jupes kids wear that are also sold at his amusement park look like Japanese forest spirits like the ones seen in the movie princess mononoke.
Also the cameras @ 6:20 looks like the prankster "aliens".
I found the scariest part of the whole movies was the chimpanzee. Probably because that was something that can & has happened irl.
No, it's, "I will cast abdominal filth upon you, make you vile, and make you a spectacle". I watch this movie 5x a week, it is the most perfect movie I have ever seen, in all aspects.
When OJ put those wranglin gloves in his mouth I knew he didn't care about living
I believe that when JJ unfurled to “eat” OJ, it wasn’t actually trying to eat him, but instead was trying to mate with him.
Look at the camera reels from the side. They look just like the alien masks they sell and the kids wear to scare them.
Not sure if this was intended but the lamp shade on the stage set floor of the Gordy show looks similar to the creature.
I feel like on first impression it was kinda mid for me but after really learning what it was telling viewers im starting to like it more
No mention of how the lampshade rolling on the ground in front of the chimp mimics the shape of Jean Jacket?!? Creepy
Why do the Alien looks like a giant sombrero seen from under? 😁
Best movie of the year
Smooth
