  • Dr Robert Byrne (Mater Private Hospital, Dublin, IE) joins us on-site to discuss the new guidelines from the ESC covering the management of acute coronary syndromes.
Acute Coronary Syndrome (ACS) is a broad spectrum of conditions, and the presentation can vary from a stable patient, to a patient who is critically ill. In the past, separate guidelines were issued for ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI) and Non-ST Elevation Myocardial Infarction (NSTEMI). The new ESC guidelines for ACS cover both NSTEMI and STEMI.
The combined guidelines outlined a common pathway for the treatment of all patients diagnosed with ACS, including early invasive strategies, antithrombotic treatment strategies, revascularization and a focus on secondary prevention. NSTE-ACS early invasive treatment has also been downgraded to a class IIa recommendation from a class I.
    Questions:
-What are the unmet needs of ACS patients in 2023?
-What is new in the guidelines?
-Is there any area that needs more attention?
-What are some of the challenges and opportunities with the implementation of these recommendations?
Recorded on-site at ESC Congress 2023, Amsterdam.
