  • @ntag411
    @ntag411 Před rokem

    I've experienced the same/similar on digital commercial tape drives in the 80s in manufacturing in Monrovia, CA. Usually the output power devices will blow and replacement of the output transistors of the preamp will resolve the issue. In a few cases, uncommon, the pre-stage drivers of this preamp to these output transistors on this same board will also blow. The tape drives are soaked for 2 weeks, drives will usually fail well within this soak environmental test. Most common are the power transistors of the power amp, a separate circuit board with a huge heatsink. The TO3 transistors will blow probably because of an imbalance. Sometimes this will damage the output of the preamp board.
    Virtually all failures are power related for power supplies, controls, sensors and tape drives. Seldom does a logic (chip) fail (probably less than 1% of all failures) because back in the day things were comparatively conservative. Today chips and near components do fail, consumer goods, because they are basically overdriven or overclocked.
    It was a time when virtually any schematic, pictorial diagram or perhaps theory of operation could be had for any product. The days when Heathkit and others like it were still around.

      "Zero ohm resistors are the perfect remedy to 'magically' route a single layer board. These resistors are then assembled along with other components during the manufacturing process."

    Great double check, next time you can check 10 minutes on power mode.

    Absolutely unrecommended to use ipa in an ultrasonic. Some people do it (Kingpin from EVGA for example), but even he doesn't recommend that you follow his lead, it is dangerous.

    Considering you have replaced the chip a few times already, you sure do leave next to no damage even under microscope !

    do not dry the ipa with a dry stick, u will leave fibers all over. After cleaning with ipa, u can blow the remaining ipa away with hot air (100 C). It will look better.

      well that's because there is still some flux residue left behind and it becomes sticky. if you keep on cleaning 2-3 times the spot there will be no fibers left. but i understand there is not a problem if just a little flux is left over, even from the factory sometimes it has on laptop motherboards (near solder jumpers etc)
