Steve Wariner is my favorite singer songwriter picker..... I met him in Jackson Mississippi when he did a lunch acoustic concert for the folks at the Mississippi Baptist children's village. He was so nice and warm and I got my picture with him. But I didn't smile cause I was stupid but I was thrilled. Thanks Joe you do some amazing interviews...

Wonderful, Joe! I heard Steve himself relate the "Damn, Chester..." story while attending an intimate concert inside Studio B on my birthday, 13 December 2019.

I was working at a small newspaper in southern Indiana throughout most of the 1990s. One year, the county fair board booked Steve Wariner to play the fair and I was thrilled to interview Steve for an advance story because I was such a big fan of his.
As an Indiana native and basketball fan, he was happy to talk Hoosier hoops with me. When Steve and his band and crew arrived at the fairgrounds, the local radio station’s program director and I had it set up for Steve and his bunch to play a pickup game with us. We played on a free standing basketball goal in a cattle barn that was empty, and Steve and Terry Wariner went hard at it. I was surprised because I thought they’d be afraid of injuring a hand or something that would keep them from being able to play.

Thank you Joe for showcasing the pickers and players that make Country great. Not many better than Steve Wariner. Fantastic to hear him talking about Chet, who thought the world of Steve. Enough to make him one of five Certified Guitarists. He deserves as much attention as he can get and you’re doing a great job for him.

@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Steve has been working with a dear friend of mine named Jim Witter from Hamilton, Ontario. I hope one of their collaborations gets Jim the attention he so richly deserves in Nashville. One shelved album in the 90’s because of an A&R guy change shouldn’t be Jim’s only shot, but you know how that goes.

@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum I love your interviews as they come from a musicians point of view. Would love to see one with a session player. A great choice would be Leland Sklar, who, as you know walks so many paths as a bassist but played on so many influential Country records and still works with anyone from Nashville that calls. Just a thought. Keep doing what you’re doing and I’ll watch every one. Cheers from Canada, eh!

Fascinating, great interview. I knew Steve Wariner by name, but hearing his stories not only makes him more interesting, it is great to hear of his love of Chet Atkins, who I consider one of the greatest guitar players of all time. One of my favorite albums is Neck and Neck, with another huge guitar talent, Mark Knopfler. I somehow missed that Steve played on some of those tracks.
Again, great interview, thanks for so much interesting facts.
