After sharing so much of how we homeschool, I thought you'd like to hear about the things we don't do. Check out these 5 things.
What are some common things you don't do in your homeschool?

Mom of one son here in our fifth year of homeschooling. I agree. We established learning habits early on. As we only have one, it was more during play. The comparison trap is real and we all have to make our homeschooling experience our own. I am always learning, always growing, too. This year, I have overburdened us with a few too many extracurriculars. We are definitely scaling back after this round of swim class ends! I feel that way about BJU. We switched in 3rd grade after a diagnosed learning disorder, but now we are FOREVER BJU fans!
Yes, I understand overcommitting to extras! Easy to do. Comparing is also such a temptation but it does get easier the longer I school!
great advice !
I am with you- I like to complete every lesson in our curriculum, and have a fresh book to start the new school year. And I know it's unpopular.
It just feels so good to get it all the way DONE!
Mom of 2 boys here 😊 Thank you for sharing these. I relate to so much of what you said! We're only on our 4th year of homeschooling, and I'm finally coming to that place of being able to stop watching every HS CZcamsr cuz they have it all together... learning to trust that the Lord's leading is perfect. Your encouragement videos are so helpful to me. I'm thinking that 6 wks/1 wk schedule might help us. We tried, but didn't really find value in the coop available here. We don't switch curriculum, unless necessary. We don't do extras, maybe 1 sport a year. Blessings.
It’s so freeing to finally realize no one has it perfectly together! Just do the best you know how and pray A LOT. Lol
I do 3 full days, 2 half days too! I don't stop our basket time during breaks. It's just something that is part of our normal routine no matter what. The only extra curricular we do is band at the local high school for my oldest two. I also like to keep going till we finish all the curriculum. As we get towards the end of the school year and things are finishing up, it makes for a gradual lightening of the load rather than an abrupt end. I like a soft start and a soft end. It makes the transitions smoother.
I agree on the soft ending! We just drop off things as we finish books and don’t replace them with anything new!
I love your list! I always have to finish the curriculum too 😅
It’s so satisfying!
How do you disciple your kids besides Bible studies and devotionals?
We have family worship at night before bed. And because we’re together most days, we have a lot of opportunities as sin/heart issues arise to deal with them biblically. Of course there’s a lot of bible time during our school day. And they have classes at church at least 2x week. 😊
@@MommaonMission do you have any suggestions on devotionals for kids who are in the third and fourth grade?
