  • In this video, I show you how to easily produce some high quality silver solder. Unlike gold solder which can be challenging to produce in the home studio (luckily master alloys do exist) silver solder can be easily make with just silver and brass!
By using various ratios of sterling to cartridge brass (also called yellow brass, 70% Copper and 30% zinc) one can produce a range of melting grades of silver solder. Generally a 3:1 ratio of sterling to brass produces hard solder, a 2:1 ratio provides a medium grade and a 1:1 prodices easy solder, however due to its dirty nature and displeasing yellow hue I rarely use easy solder. I recommend you stick to hard or medium.
    Enjoy :)

Yes. Here I didn’t use shell casings either, but the alloy of 70% copper and 30% zinc is common in casings. Silver solder is really easy, so you should have no troubles!
      Good luck.

Soft jewelers brass is 70/30 any sheet brass meant for forming or bending ought to be the correct alloy. Not to be confused with machining brass like C360 which contains other metals such as lead and iron to improve machinability
