I just want to point out one thing to people who are looking at these because they like to challenge themselves and are not afraid to go down while riding / learning. You see at the end where he shows the "Floating" chest protection? Let's state one common result if you wear that WITHOUT the neck piece. That will come right up on both the Leatt 5.5 and Alpinestar top corners WILL break your collar bone. The chest protection, meant to protect you will shatter that collar bone if you are Not wearing the neck protection to hold it down and in place during an accident. I am not saying it will happen with every fall or even every 80 falls, but if you are at speed and go over the handlebars, it will happen. Be aware that these chest protection systems move the stress of impact to the outer edges, with the neck brace, it will disperse the energy instead of focus it on one point. Happy riding, challenge yourself and make it home safely!

The 3DF foam from leatt is really good. However, when it comes to abrasion, plastic would most likely be better. Let me know if you have more questions i can help with. - Chase

REALLLLY wished you would have mentioned how the Alpinestars V2 jacket annoyingly juts into your lower back when not bending over in the seated position, but then when you bend down the problem is that the chest protector moves up and jabs you in your adam's apple, practically choking you. TERRIBLE design.

Notice how none of these cover the side rib cage? I crashed on my side and my bruised ribs hurt for months. It was miserable and proof that the makers don't eat their own dog food.

The leatt 5.5 has rib protection.

That is a common issue, handle bars break the ribs easily, I bought the Leatt 5.5 for just this reason, has not happened since. A rib separation is just as bad as a break, great protection and works so well with the neck brace.

Racing mx/sx/enduro/free ride/etc can be dangerous when you have a big get off that's just part of the sport. There is no body protecter/chest protector that's going to save you from all injuries. It's a risk you have to mitigate in your mind or do a different sport. You can't enjoy yourself if you're worried about getting injured every time you jump on your bike imo. Even trail riding you have some risk and if you're in a "suit of armor" you give up movement/mobility. Being comfortable is important to and a lot of the guys I know that race/ride. I think the equipment today is so much better than 10 years ago it's amazing. I've still broken bones when completely kitted out it's just a risk you take when racing...or riding trails.

The perfect jacket would be the Bionic V2 or Leatt Hybrid with an hard rib protection IMO.

If leatt made an Airfit (non lite) with the same foam from the chest/back/elbow/shoulder on the rib cage I’d be all over that. I’m actually considering buying a back protector, cut it up, and get a tailor to sew it into my AirFit jacket.
Also my other nitpick is the elbows and shoulder pads seem to be a little floaty... not convinced they’d be in the right spot in a crash.

Imagine if a company made a shirt with pads that came in more than 1 color and didn't look absolutely stupid. Hundreds of thousands of people have been wanting something like that for generations.
All we get is this overpriced mad max looking nonsense. It is ridiculous.
MAKE A SHIRT WITH PADS SO I DON'T HAVE TO SWEAT TO DEATH IN A JACKET AT 90 DEGREES AND OVER.
How hard can this possibly be?
