I was in the US Coast Guard four years and almost all of my shipmates were very patriotic. People don't realize that the CG is a fighting unit which becomes part of the Navy during wartime. I've participated in rescuing many people while I served. It's a rewarding feeling when you pluck someone out of the cold Atlantic or slightly warmer Pacific. Per capita, more CG sailors have been killed or lost in war than any other branch of the service. When I served there were only about 50,000 CG sailors. We patrolled around the 200 mile limit mark.

This looks more interesting the modern coast guard. It looks more military back then than now. Too bad they don't wear the classical uniforms anymore.
