What do you think about Wild Arms 5? How do you think it compares to the rest of the series?

Don't you think it's kinda ironic that most either dead or on hold RPG series ended on a 5th installment on a PS2?
Wild Arms 5
Suikoden 5
Breath of Fire 5
That's a good point, and I never thought of it that way before!
As for my thoughts for Wild Arms 5 I actually like it's characters, Story and most of all the art style I actually liked the art style way more then other Wild Arms game
Nah, Wild Arms 3 was peak because it still felt like Wild Arms but was challenging, and that made it fun. 4 and 5 threw out all of the charm and took the series in the same direction as every other generic anime-inspired JRPG of the time.
Not true at all. 3 was the most wild West but wild arms had a mix. And 5 is very sort of wild West or like American frontier look wise. It's very much in line with the rest of the series.
From the style, to the towns and train ect.
It also has a much better delivered story than 3.
I always say that it shows that they hired a writer(author) to help with the story.
I love WA5 but it was an OCD nightmare. Although I played this game multiple times in the past, I can't see myself playing this game ever again.
Thanks for covering this and wild arms 4. I've been interested in them but I've seen almost no one talk about them.
My pleasure!
Thank you for giving attention to older RPG. Wild Arms 3 is my favorite followed by 1
Glad you liked it!
Haven't played 5, I think it's mostly because I didn't really get into 4, especially considering how much I love the third game, which still sits pretty high on my list of favourite JRPGs of all time.
I'd love to see Wild Arms return though, even if it's just a remaster of one of the first 3 games.
If you didn't like 4, I don't blame you!
The hexagonal Combat System was absolutely not my Wild Arms.
Yeah, I know that isn't for everyone.
I've played through all of the 5 Wild Arms games last year, and Wild Arms 5 I would easily say is my 2nd favorite behind WA 2.
In fact, I've enjoyed all 5 of them and there wasn't a single game that I felt was bad or didn't enjoy playing though. I enjoyed a lot of the character parties, the combat, the music, the puzzle elements and I especially love the theming and messaging within each title.
Really the only thing that I didn't quite enjoy was the exploration since it was very difficult to navigate without a guide, and sometimes the dialogue especially in the later games felt long-winded and interminable.
But overall I found it to be a very underrated series and I would easily say it's within my top 10 JRPG series!
I haven't played 4. But even my least fav wild arms is still a good game.
How is wild arms 1 not your fave? It’s the best one
@@StewNWT I like Wild Arms 1 just fine, But for me I much prefer Wild Arms 2 because it offered a more complex and complicated story with characters and themes that felt very relatable with it's theme being about what it means to be a hero. I also prefer WA5 for the same reasons only it's theme was about tackling racism. Pluss I just prefer the look and gameplay to the later ones.
@@gavinlucas9761 to be fair I haven't played 2 yet I have it in my library
@@StewNWT You should really play it sometime, It's a very underrated game and it's writing is on par with other PS1 classics such as Xenogears, just know that the translation is a little bit wonky during certain segments but it's still perfectly readable.
you know, i need to replay the first three and actually play these last two now that you’ve talked about them
Do you think that the Remake of the first is worth it? I'm a bit worried about how annoying the scan system may be.
@@epicmetalwarrior5476 that’s a good question. i have a copy of it but i haven’t played. i think that feature is pretty bogus, to be honest, but i’m looking forward to more story, and who wouldn’t want to have Calamity Jane in their party? haha
Hope you like them!
When I worked at Gamestop back in 2007, I rented this game. I got all the way to the end and the manager said it was time to return it 😂 I really enjoyed it. Can't believe i still havent completed it😔
Not a series i got into being a nintendo kid most of the time, but seems like this is actually a pretty lit title
The first two are the best. I think you would love #1
Cant believe...some1 finaly talk about the Wild Arms games!! What a great series!! ..even the video is just about Part 5 ;-)
More to come!
It looks really neat. I only every played the first two Wild Arms, never had much interest in the others in the serries, but this piques my interest.
Wild Arms 5 is the greatest of the series, this video needs to be 10x longer! It needs more love
I'm glad you think so!
I love the Wild ARMs serues, with Alter Code F and 5 are my favorites.
I was surprised by how good XF was, but 1 is my favorite!
I tried WA1, finished WA2 & WA5. I like the game, what an upgrade after the PS1 games. The hex system make the battle more tactical and fun. Story is pretty good although feels too shonen anime for my liking. The music is what I enjoy the most.
I'm not watching this yet, because I'm still midway through doing side quests and collecting hidden stuff.....🤘 Great game and a great series.
Glad you like it!
In my opinion, i find the battle system of wild arms 1, 2, and 3 felt too generic and unintresting for my taste
I wonder why many people don't like the hex battle system offered by Wild Arms 4 and 5, I think Wild Arms started to have its own identity and uniqueness as soon as they implement the battle system and not the other way around
Man this game was place in my childhood memories. its so good that i do New Game Few Time and got the Red armor, something Blazer i forgot. the story was typical shonen so ilike it back then. but the BGM when you do the battle man, "When the heart Ignite" its make me learn how to whistle back then wahahaha. it took me exactly one week to able to do it, my parents even ask me why i always shaping my mouth right that, i even ask neighbor nearby how to whistle. still i still proud i can do that withn one week lol. tho the ending kinda anti climatic and i feels bad for Avirl to stay like that its really good game and i sure can recomend it to anyone. tho first time i learn the opening should have lyric like when we fight the last boss. i wonder why they cut it....
Great video - I need to get into this series actually!
Thanks! Definitely start with the first one.
My fav, the gameplay, the characters, the story 🤌
I wasn't particularly fond of the hex system, but I grew up with WA2 and I liked 3 behind that.
1 to a lesser degree.
WA5 was my favorite in the series, the art style being by one of my favorite artists helps a lot too.
I don’t think it’s better 1 story wise but in everything else it’s by far my favorite in the series. I also like how many parallels the game shares with Gurren Lagann
This game came with many great things, since it is a 10th anniversary for WA. There are many cameos and homage to previous WA. Dean's arm bullets replace the tools system. Also a polished hexagonal battle from previous entry.
But I was dissapointed with the summon guardians, they only have 6. Not too different with WA4, which only 5.
WA5 ia a great game. Maybe not 1-2 but it is the third best WA game. And it looks fantastic. It can be argued to be the best looking. Definitely of the 3d ones.
I still think PS1 and PS2 eras were the peak of RPGs.
Samurai shodown rpg has a translation to Neo Geo CD now. I'm playing it. I would love to see on your channel.
@@NaNoRarh it is, it has some English mistakes here and there but not so bizarre so far.
I would really like to check that one out.
Have u try ps2 castlevania? Pretty good jrpg
I still put 2 and 3 up there as my favorites. Couldn't get into 4 and 5.
Same, 4 and 5 just don't click.
#1 is the best
only thing I hate about this game is the minimap
I actually prefer both Wild ARMs 4 and 5 to the previous games. The combat is much more engaging and fun which is why I love playing RPGs. Both 1 and 2 suffer from slow boring animations that make the battles drag a lot imo. While 3 has the problem of bad exploration as you stated in your previous review which made me quit the game for its monotony, I do love everything else about it though.
More like Mild Arms!
I respect the take
Game Informer giving this a 6.5/10 and saying the graphics "looked like they gor lost on the way to the PSP" annoys me 18 years later.
Haha, didn't realize that! I had a subscription to GameInformer in the 90s and loved it.
Well they aren’t wrong re the graphics but that doesn’t mean it should have been as low as a 6.5
2 is the best Wild Arms.
Nope #1
I reeeally think Wild Arms 5 is the best jrpg on the ps2, it fixes all the wrongs on Wild Arms 4 and feel like a evolution of the series, unfortunately the franchise died in such a great game that was cursed by a bad previous entry
I'm glad you liked it more than me!
Its a weird backpedal/apology for 4's more generic anime schlock world, but I doubt it'll be the best Wild Arms game. I also felt 4's broken bullshit and being a short game worked better; 5 being a balanced game kinda killed puzzle bosses too
How come you don't appear in your videos despite putting your picture in the thumbnail? It would be interesting to see you on cameras do intros and outros about the game, but otherwise I just don't understand why the inclusion. Good videos, nonetheless.
Dean and Avril he was a boy, she was a girl can i make it anymore obvious?
Nah it’s definitely 3.
No way it was the best. The plot is wack, the battle system was pretty unneccesary to the point the devs themselves added a "skip animations" option, and the grid system never felt like it added anything to the combat.
Plus with all the cameos, it gave the feeling like the game didn't have the courage to stand on it's own, similar to how most new Star Wars has to try and cram the old characters everywhere just to try and keep you interested.
I did like the character designs a lot, at least that of the playable characters, but one thing that chuffs me is that Dean was perfect at the beggining with the shovel, perfect wild west gold prospector vibes, and then they give him his ugly ass ARMs that don't even change the way he fights.
The dungeons were kinda boring too.
1
Wild Arms 1 is best.
FF7 kicked the door in with runaway mainstream success and we finally got a run of JRPGS that we deserved on the PS after a long drought. And even though it was barely a notch up from the SNES in terms of graphics its strong enough to make a lot of top 10 PlayStation RPGS to this day.
Enough to birth a series that last for another four games and another generation of consoles.
I enjoyed 5 but like 4, it didn't really have the impression on me the first 2 did. Not enough for me to return to it or hold it in any truly high regard. It kind of was an attempt to return to form that was a little too self-conscious
I agree that 1 was the best!
Agreed wild arms 1 remains the best
I have to be honest Xygor, playing these games in a row in such a short time I cant help but hear and feel like you sound rather fatigued. I think this review was a bit short and missing information such as mini games, hidden content and quests. I get that you like 1 and 2 more, but your previous experience with them and playing these last really is not going to contribute to a positive perception.
Personally think that aside from the story, 5 is a really good game.
This game just looks so ugly.
I will take gorgeous 2D over crap 3D any day
