There's an even easier way. All you have to do is do the Abzu route and free the hired hand there and just simply walk through the already open door. Last level of tide pool and there's about 10 seconds between freeing the hired hand and entering the ice caves.
If you can get to azbu, there's a helping hand there under the water, and it leads straight to ice caves. You have to get the ankh (or not if you do some fancy co-op strategies), but it may be easier if the helping hand is being dumb or you can't kill the fish
You can place helping hands into a 1-block deep hole (any width) and then jump out before they get up, they will franticly run around for a second and then fall aslep. Only problem is that they sometimes wake up randomly if you get attacked by something.
In my opinion, I think it would be easier to just do a Sunken City run, and take Tina Flan (or the hired hand in Abzu if you already unlocked her) to mama tunnel
So how I did it was in 4-4 you unlock Tina if you have been there for the first time and you’re fighting kingu just leave her coffin shut till you’re ready for the hired hand short cut, defeat kingu on a separate run and then give mama tunnel Tina. But yours is easier to do in the sense if it’s a constant thing you can do every time you play even if the hired hand dies

the helping hand kept jumping onto the lava at 4-3, or into clumps of enemies at 4-4 (I mean golden traps, crab-men, and legions of like, 4-6 yiang-shi), yeah, it happened, twice: the deathwish these things have is absurd.
jus sayin, if you pick up the hired hand then put it down then he runs around abit then falls asleep. instead of needing a 3 block gap, just do this. i learnt this from speedrunners with the eggplant child
black market can be literally anywhere in 2-2 to 2-4, you need the udjat eye to find it (it will blink and make a noise faster the closer you are to it)

I got a store at 4-4 that was selling the hired man. I was stunned for like thirty seconds, staring at the screen, not being able to believe it.

You can steal from Madam Tuck Bodyguard to get a shotgun and then kill the big fish.
You could also get a clone gun and dup the sword to make the whip strat faster
You can use a snaptrap to one shot the fish as well!
