    Can you use the same press tool used to press the bearing, to press the hub into the new bearing??

    Where do you get / buy the Hub Tamer / bearing press removal tool? Part number would be helpful. Thanks!

    How do you remove the axle so easily? Mine is stuck it won't come out. Any recommendations?

      Almost no rust on this vehicle made it super easy, you can put the axle nut on a few turns and use A dead blow hammer to try and push it out of the hub. You could also try a center punch in the middle of the axle shaft with a hammer just be cautious to not damage the threads on the axle.

    Think it would it be easier to just replace the whole hub assembly?

    • @SMAutoRepairLLC

      Unfortunately this requires a press bearing and hub no hub assembly for parts on this style.

    I think that nut that goes to center/axle is wrong because since there is no whole thu axle you can't put the pin thru???

    • @SMAutoRepairLLC
      @SMAutoRepairLLC  Před 8 měsíci

      2 styles of axle nuts one that requires a cotter pin and others that are self locking.The locking nuts are very common on these newer models vehicles. Basically the outside threaded portion of the nut is not perfectly circular and really grips the threads when tightened down. No issue here.

    How did you get the bearing race off?

    • @SMAutoRepairLLC
      @SMAutoRepairLLC  Před měsícem

      A little heat and a chisel or carefully make a cut in the race and use a chisel to split it. If you access to a oxy acetylene torch you can heat and spin it off easily. If not the cut and split method is generally the easiest for a DIYER. Just be careful not to cut into the shaft of the hub.

    How did it sound before replacement

  • @James-ju1el
    @James-ju1el Před 3 měsíci

    Do the new bearings come with that little horseshoe locking pin, and if mine didn't, and the old one was broken can I get another one? Also I didn't see you put that on (the lock pin). However Im assuming it's fairly simple to pop in there, do you pop it in after you put the bearing in the knuckle, but before you put the hub in the bearing?

    • @SMAutoRepairLLC
      @SMAutoRepairLLC  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Depending on the brand bearing you purchase yes it may come with a replacement so just check when shopping for your part. If I skipped that step my apologies the retaining ring will go on right after installing the bearing into the knuckle and right before installing the hub.

    Im not a mechanic, but I think you never put grease on pressed surfaces as the bearing may spin

    • @WineScrounger
      @WineScrounger Před 10 měsíci +1

      only if the bearing is already frozen solid and fully seized. Once it's in place the grease film breaks down and it/s there until you press it out again.

      @TheycallmeBB38 Před 8 měsíci +1

      You must lube the contact surfaces when pressing in a bearing to aid in proper fitment. Any residual lube in that area will not cause slippage but it will reduce the chance of moisture ingressing to the area and causing rust.
