Thank you for making a video that shows the basic settings and also how to change them! I've been considering a few cameras, but this is the first video I've found that shows what it would be like to actually handle the camera, so I'm very grateful!

Metering Timer - What does it do?
It sets how long the meter is active in Live View.
While recording video (or using Live View, or setting up for video) if you tap the shutter button, the metering display at the bottom of the screen will be active for the time specified in the menu. It doesn't seem to have any bearing on the meter or metering functions when using the viewfinder

Excellent review of all the camera settings. Reasonable pace, perfect visuals, clear, straight to the point. I also appreciate how you skip two minor things ("Don't know that, don't want to make anything up") as it shows your credibility. I am now ready to experiment with this camera my brother generously gave me when he bought a new one!

Thank you for this tutorial! I learned so much in those few minutes and feel a lot more powerful! (Also, Im sure it may have been said but I remember from my T1i that the "Jump 10" feature means that in the review mode, if you turn the dial, it will skip 10 images to help u get to the beginning more quickly). Thanks man! I just picked up a T4I, my first SLR! :) This helped a LOT. But to answer your question about why to take pics without an SD Card when you were going through the menus...
There is a good reason for that. The camera could be wired into anything from a simple instant photo editor, to advanced things like medical imaging devices. I recently had pictures taken of my retina. This was a special box I looked into and fixed to the top was an SLR Canon camera :) Hope that helps!

I had the exact same dilemma a couple of weeks back. The price is almost the same, so the battle was on picture quality, build and features. On the 650D, you get higher ISO range, touchscreen (which isn't just a gimmick, it's actually quite useful, such as pinch zooming to review) quick flick of switch to movie, handheld night shot and HDR mode (which I think I'd use a lot), similar burst rate (5fps vs 5.3). You also get the new Digic5 processor.

    Hey Shon,
A quick Question, I just start using DSLR recently and I am a big fan of your videos, but why when following your tutorials in the manual mode, I see all photos are darker than the auto-mode I set the F, Iso, and shutter speed but even following what you just say, its gives me a very very darker photos than the auto mode gives to me.
I could see a button where I can control the flash but even going up to 2 still gives me a blurry and not clear photo, any advice?
    Cheers,

Thanks for the intro to the T4i. I am considering purchasing one but I don't want to loose the way my wheel and buttons work on my T3. I really don't like touch screen either. A couple helps: The metering timer determines how long the meter stays active and displays the settings after pressing the shutter half way down--battery saver. And as for WB bracketing, I suppose if you need fill flash and your ambient light does not match, and you don't have the right gel with you, this may save you.

jump 10 is when u use the click wheel to go through your images, you can jump by 10 images at a time or other increments. its a quick way to get through your photos, then u can use the arrows to get through those specific photos. you can also set it to jump 1, which is the same function as the arrows.

Great video, for sure very helpfull for the one how do not want to read the canon book! However, ii would add as tips that the 'Q' button is on the left bottom side of the touch screen, that user can disable the explanation message that pops up every time you touch one fonction/setting on the screen (which i belzive could be very helpfull for beginer to undestand what they are doing). As a result of those 2 tips: the touch screen allow user to set the 650d in a really fast and easy way. Thanks
