  • The Path of Ordination | Entering Monk Life
    Ordination is a sacred path one must go through in order to become a Buddhist monk. This video documents the journey of three Westerners as they enter the monk life in Thailand. Before they their ordination day, they must learn and practice the basic foundation of the monk life such as mindfulness, meditation, chanting, eating, walking, and so much more. The monk life is simple, but not easy.
    However, through diligent practice each one of these men proves that they are up to the task of overcoming the obstacles that stand between them and the saffron robes. So please enjoy this intimate view into these mens journey as they transform to become a member of the Sangha. #monklife #monks #ordination
    Hope you enjoy.

The teachings are beautiful, I think so needed, especially in these current times. I live way out in the country which I love. My life is slower, peaceful. Hi Nick and thanks for this post; really appreciate seeing the transformation taking place in the men - their faces tell a lot and it was also great seeing these more mature men. I couldn’t help but think why they would travel with so much baggage when the first order of business is to divest one’s life and self of all possessions. It made me think either they didn’t think it through fully or they weren’t properly prepared ahead of time for what was to come. Your messages always force me into deep thinking. 😊 Also, I now have my copy of your book. Thanks 🙏 🙏🙏

    I (a woman) shaved my hair and eyebrows off last year with a straight razor down to the skin. I kept it that way for a whole year. Letting go of the power your hair has over you is very spiritual.

    Hi Nick what an amazing journey you have been on! I found your channel via your adjustment disorder video from 3 years ago as I’m going through a similar thing with a move. So I was wondering your take on it now and seeing as you have chosen to become a monk soon after did that have any influence?

    • @nickkeomahavong01
      @nickkeomahavong01  Před 3 lety +1

      At the time of that recording, I had no intention to come to Thailand. But regarding adjustments, its still the same and normal. It takes time. Even as a monk, the adjustment to monkhood and to a new foreign land was extremely different. I had to just take my time and be kind to myself. Its ok. No rush if you are going through this as well 😀

    • @ORush2
      @ORush2 Před 3 lety +1

      @@nickkeomahavong01 yes time is making it better. I did the move for my family as I was happy where I was but not as suitable which makes it hard but as you said monks do things for other people and have humility so I’m keeping that in mind. Did you ever adjust to Malibu? I relate to what else you said about some things just not being part of who you inherently are and some things will be.

    In my personal opinion, there's too much of instrumental music in the latest videos. Sometimes you just want to hear some ambient silence.

      Hello. I do not have any tattoos. Again, tattoos that are not acceptable are face tattoos or anything vulgar that is visible.
