In this video, I wanted to share two personal examples of criticism that I personally experienced and an alternative perspective on how to handle and approach criticism. How do you deal with criticism?
I don’t take anything personally. I’ve realized that people have bad days and take any opportunity to snap at anyone. I know it’s also a reflection of whatever pain and suffering they have or are going through. I know my truths, and let those that criticize talk. Words don’t hurt. Thank you for sharing your perspective with us 🙏🏽
@gautam bk 🙂 sadhu sadhu. Thank you so much my friend.
@@royallimitzcc wonderful. Thank you so much 🙂🙂🙂
I ignore negative criticism because I know myself more than those people who has nothing better to do in life 😜 I just focus on the positives. Like you said "focus on your own bowl, sleep on your own pillow."
On the flip side, I do welcome constructive criticism because it helps me grow and improve as a person.
In general, if people have nothing good to say, it's better to 🤐

Thank you Nick for sharing your view on criticism. You're in a good place and please continue to do good work to inspire others. Be safe.
@@juliaangelicaa5395 thank you as always Julia 🙂🙂
A 24 year old boy seeing out from the train’s window shouted…
“Dad, look the trees are going behind!”
Dad smiled and a young couple sitting nearby, looked at the 24 year old’s childish behavior with pity, suddenly he again exclaimed…
“Dad, look the clouds are running with us!”
The couple couldn’t resist and said to the old man…
“Why don’t you take your son to a good doctor?”The old man smiled and said…“I did and we are just coming from the hospital, my son was blind from birth, he just got his eyes today.
Every single person on the planet has a story. Don’t judge people before you truly know them. The truth might surprise you.
Thank you so much for sharing my friend. Its very beautiful ❤❤🙏
your welcome
Such a beautiful story! a good example not to judge or make assumptions.
People are so cruel...
that was a great doctor that repaired the persons sight.
"I know my intention, and that's enough." That's going to be my mantra. Thank you.

One of my favorite quotes is “Do what you feel in your heart to be right - for you'll be criticized anyway” - Eleanor Roosevelt
😊😊😊
My story, I have listened to A Monks Guide to Happiness for the past two years. I have listened to the audio over 100 times. I did this because Christian teaching was so engrained in my thinking where they teach anti Buddhism. I have not gone to church for over 10 years, but the previous 15 years of preaching very much narrowed my views on almost everything. My husband whom I have been married to for 13 years is not a Christian and opened my mind to the hypocrisy. I have suffered from extrema anxiety, PTSD as an X veteran. I just kept listening to a monks Guide to Happiness in the hope I would have a break through one day. This happened about a month ago. I listened to plum village messages and one of the messages I heard, opened my mind and all the anxiety I have had for decades, stopped in a matter of 2 minutes.
I wish I learnt about Buddhism when I was a child.
Thank you for sharing your message. Buddhism teaching is so simple, practical and non oppressive. If all Defence Member were trained in this, it would stop a lot of suffering for them in their future.
To think that India came up with Buddhism, how privileged they are from this. India does not need to become more like the west, the west needs to be more like India.
I stumbled upon this channel and so glad that I found it. This is now officially my favorite channel. It's full of wisdom, love and light. I feel so much love and purity from watching just a few videos so far. I'm grateful for you Nick Keomahavong. Thank you with all my hearat.

"Why does it not affect me ? because I understand that when you take a look at something with not a complete picture, you're going to make observations ... conclusions, judgments .. but it is not complete and doesn't really reflect what is happening" - a gem of a thought. worth remembering.
Thank you so much my friend 😊😊
I feel you have tried very hard to find your place in the world. A place that fits your true self.... I think every person has the same goal in life, that is to seek his/her place in the world. However, the difference is that not many people are willing to go so much beyond their comfort zone. For that, I really admire your courage. You are my inspiration.
Thank you lois
I read somewhere that
"People that criticize others are most unhappy about something in there lives and they takes most pathetic measure to make themselves feel better"
I hope they will find peace and buddha in there life 🙏

Sometimes that can be the case. Other times it is not.
Western psychology refers to “projection” , which if I understand correctly is calling out a perceived flaw in another person that one is unable to admit to - in oneself.
@22: 21 I can resonate. I suppose most 'born' Buddhists have this alignment issue because Buddhist nations are moving towards the western culture... and there's hardly any support to bridge, for those who want. I struggled from the age of 14-15 years and completing the circle only in my 50s. Most of my counterpart 'professionals' living in main cities or have migrated to the west have same issue and are struggling to pass this precious cultural heritage to their children. This series on monastic discipline, mindfulness in daily life and monks perspective is SO precious everytime I listen it brings me to tears. I've been waiting for this for soo long in my life. Thank you bhante keep doing your great work!!!
sadhu sadhu. thank you so much 🙂🙂🙂
All of your content has been very helpful to me. Thank your for your service to the Dhamma.
Awwwe thank you so much James. I'm glad it has been helpful. Greetings to you 🙂🙂
There is a teaching in the Bible in Proverbs 29:25, "It is dangerous to be concerned with what others think of you, but if you trust in the Lord you are safe." This has helped me a lot when others judge me unfairly.
Beautiful. Thank you so much for sharing 🙂🙂
You just reminded me of a verse in the Dhammapada: "He who talks too much, they blame him. He who says little, they blame him. Whether he talks too much or too little, they blame him."
In other words, no matter what you do, you can't please everyone.😊
Nick my friend, initially when I stumbled upon your 'morning routine' video a few days a go, I didn't realise what exactly about you spoke out to me. Was it the budhist philosophy that had always resenated with my personal philosophies that I'd come to learn about myself?, was it your calm nature? Or was it a nudge towards some clarity in this path to finding my true self?
I now realise that it's all of them and the sincerity in the things you are saying. Keep doing what you're doing. I'm grateful and really glad you've finally found your place in the world, for you and for me. Respect, Midi
Awww that's very kind of you midi. Thank you for you support. I'm glad the content resonates with you and also welcome to the channel :)

Nick you should be a public speaker
All your videos are very inspiring and reassuring,
Your delivery is very efficient and your message always lands and resonate with me.
For those who criticise your videos, it's a free world, they free to listen to whatever resonates with them
Also , I feel some people bring criticism not for the sake of feedback but for the sake of criticism itself.
You do you. Keep going, loads of people enjoys it. Do it for us who do please.
Thank you for this! I was criticized today at work for a training class I led. It was so upsetting to me and I couldn’t figure out why. I came from a supportive and helpful approach in my training…..now I know that my intention was enough and not everyone will receive my intention as my heart desired. Everyone but one person gave me high marks on the post training evaluation. And that is enough! ❤
Mr Nick, this came up on my feed and I shared with my friend who constantly gets criticized by family, even her own father. And she has been feeling horrible. I found this useful and shared with her. Thank you so much!
I’m glad it’s helpful 😊
Being a open book can cause some people to try and rip up the pages. I'm glad you don't let them. You are an inspiration.
Thank you for your lesson on Criticism. So much pain comes from misreading criticism. From a different angle criticism could also be looked at as a helping tool for us to get closer to awareness. When people criticize us, they actually help us better understand the reality we live in. Even when they are wrong, the fact that they express it, it helps us understand human nature better. To me, the worst aspect is actually lack of criticism or ignorance - and probably even in the silence of ignorance there is so much to learn from. An absolute nothing doesn't exist.
You're welcome. Thank you so much :-)
Brother Nick.
The world has a blessing in you.
You sharing has so many angles and each is has star ready to illuminate any who is listening. Thank you for sharing. Be blessed 🙌 😇
Ven Nick. You are wise and yet so humble. Strength to see beyond the human expectation and to strive to become a human is so admirable and inspiring. I am always wishing you good health and strength to continue to guide and share. With million love ❤️ 🇸🇬
Sadhu sadhu thank you so much tan 😊 😊
I'm in my junior year of highschool, and from all the videos I've watched, I felt like I could immediately understand all the lessons you've provided in your videos. Especially when it comes to criticism, I always try not to take it to heart and look at it from a third person perspective. It allowed me to better understand the other person and perhaps their intention was to help, but the criticism was just quite aggressive. However, thank you so much for all your videos! Its a such a great breather for the day and very useful content :)
Thank you so much. Glad it resonates with you. Greetings to you
Your videos have helped me tremendously. I listen to you at work and before I fall asleep. For meditation. It calms my soul. Keep up your work. You have a gift and I am so thankful you are sharing it with the world! Much peace and love to you.

Dear Nick,
I'm in shock when I watch your video why you became a Monk, but then I realized & understood your mission!
My father was a Buddhist. I'm a Buddhist too! I can relate to you in several different ways. All my life, people are judging me wrongful, badly, & causing me anger. What these people don't know is that,
I have special gifts, talents,
& skills that someday they might need my help!! With maturity & windsom, I'm managing a whole lot better. All my life, I'm teaching people how to be kind heart, generous, help the needy, respectful, & love!
God knows my intentions are good! I ADMIRE YOU & RESPECT THE PATH YOU CHOOSE! I love watching your videos! IT'S VERY ENLIGHTMENT! FINALLY, YOU'RE THE ONE THAT I CAN RELATE! Keep making the videos.WE NEED MORE PEOPLE LIKE YOU IN THIS WORLD!😇💜🕊
I WISH YOU WELL, PROSPER, & PEACE!🎊

Sadhu Sadhu 😊😊 thank you so much
First, thank you! I'm so grateful to have stumbled upon your channel, and I love your content. I wanted to share - watching myself watch this video, the changing tide of reactions I had was so amusing to behold. I clicked on the video from a mentality of "Save me oh wise monk!," then kept watching and was like "I can totally empathize with why you'd want to work with the populations you noted, and while we're at it, let me project my own judgments about why I would want to do the same onto you," then felt so much compassion and empathy for the notion of just focusing on your own intention, then as soon as you mentioned the sunset, I saw my judgment mind kicked in like, "Ohhhh now we're just showing off how awakened and peaceful we are, aren't we?" and my gosh, the ever-churning mind of Ego projections is so absurd. So if you're reading this comment and struggling with handling criticism too, just look at the roller coaster of my own reactions to this one video, and how completely random and contradictory they all were. When I experienced myself negatively judging this video, it had nothing whatsoever to do with the content. When I could turn off my own fears and just receive the content, all I felt was empathetic appreciation. The same goes for all of us, too :)
Thank you Nick for your videos. I have been in a twelve step program over 40 years. I like hearing what people observe me doing and share it in a kind way. It gives me the opportunity to evaluate myself and sometimes change a behavior. I have one friend that I try to share my experiences in an effort that maybe she can see something that may need some tweaking. However she feels criticized and that’s not my intent. Your video helped me see myself and hopefully “not share” what I see when I see it.
I have tried in the past and do better for a bit then fall back into my old habits. Listening to you has been enlightening and I will continue try to be less opinionated :-) in the future and remember it’s not my job to fix others, only myself. Namaste my friend 🙏🏼

Hi Nick! Great to see you. What a beautiful spot you are sitting in for this video. You are absolutely right you DO NOT need to explain yourself to anyone, you know that...but thank you for sharing anyways. Your heart is in the right place. As a therapist you gave so much of yourself to your clients to do your best to ease their pain and suffering. As a Monk you continue to give so much of yourself....and now not just to your personal clients, but the whole world! I see you as a spiritual guide, advisor, and a friend! So much of your advice and your words have been an important part of my life since I discovered you. To anyone reading this Nick's heart is pure and his intentions are pure. He truly cares about you. To any of the "critics" out there I can tell you with 100% certainty that Nick is definitely not bothered by any nasty, mean, or ruthless feedback! Don't ever stop what you're doing Nick! It matters so much to so many of us! 🙏❤️👍🙏🤜🤛
Thank you so much for your kind words. I'll continue my best to share. Glad the content has been helpful 🙂🙂🙂

Sadhu Sadhu 😊😊 thank you so much. Welcome to the channel my friend.
Thank you so much, Nick! I grew up under the lens of criticism, so for me, for many years I turned that criticism inwards. After many years of therapy, little by little I have learned to not be my own worst critic and to better withstand the criticism of others. Your message brings me so much joy. The important thing is to look always at ourselves and our intention. If our intention is true and good and pure, then this is the most important thing: to be at peace with ourselves. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
Yeaaaa. Thank you so much. Thank you for sharing your experience. Keep up your practice and keep doing good 🙂🙂

This is real deep very interesting i find social media some people can be very cruel i have thought when people are mean they are not happy with themselves. But you are teaching me and have me thinking maybe different
Brother Nick. Studying the dharma is skilful, but living the dharma is enlightened.
I started my journey six years ago by walking into our local sangha - as so many people do, because my life was literally falling apart. Death of parents, failure of our 20 year marriage, several jobs lost and then my new partner’s brush with cancer.
I felt that life was just too hard and I was in a very dark place. I was desperate to try to find out what is the point of being alive.
I walked into the sangha, sat at the end of the mediation room and I will never forget the order member leading the meditation leaning forward and fixing me with the most radiant welcoming smile. I was in the right place.
I have learnt from the dharma that a good answer to “What is one’s life for ?” is that we are each here to ease the suffering of others.
And you, dear brother are a living embodiment of that.
“May the longtime sun shine on you,
All love surround you
And the pure light within you
Guide your way on” …. Quote from The Incredible String Band 😊

Such a beautiful place you’re at. I believe that all roads lead to here & knowledge is wealth, share it. I’ve realized that so many people are set in their ways, staying true to what they’ve been taught. Those are the ones who have criticized me most. The receptive people are the open minded ones who love hearing about other people’s interests. Whenever someone criticizes me, I just say “let’s agree to disagree sometimes”. Blessings always Nick!🙏🏻❤️

Very thought provoking. It helps me to understand both sides of criticism, that which I receive, and that which I dole out. I grew up in a very critical household and have struggled a lot with criticism, taking things personally, and taking things on that weren't even true. Understanding that criticism can stem from unhealed trauma from within, helps me see both sides. I love your content. So much helps me understand. I don't agree with everything necessarily, yet now I can look inside and question what teachings I've had that might create my own specific beliefs.
Greetings from Richardson Texas... I'm comforted by the belief that criticism, in my life, usually means that God is telling me to remember that we all carry a piece of the truth. Maybe someone sees something that I don't... namaste friend

I’m so tired of being sad... I need to get out I need to be free. my mind is imprisoning itself and I feel trapped in my own thoughts and even though I know I am ok and in good health I just can’t calm down
A person spoke to Buddha,
"I want happiness"
Buddha responded,
Remove the I - that is ego.
Remove the want - that is desire.
You are now left with just happiness.
Remember the peace comes from within, do not seek it without.
Best of luck on your journey🤙
Deity, how are you feeling now? You are not alone, we are all in the same boat, it is just that few people talk about their mental state because it is what has been taught to us in the Western world. Things are changing, but if you can open your mind to the thought that you are not alone in your suffering, then it is a huge step towards happiness. I wish you all the best.

Every day I watch one of your videos, I am watching slowly and mindfully. Today this was suggested and what a treat it was, so full of kindness, wisdom and insight….it really resonated with me and struck me how small the world is now, and how large a message you have for anyone who needs it….this is one I’m sure I’ll come back to again and again, even tho I have never much concerned myself with others opinions of me….thank you so much for putting these messages out, they are so uplifting…. I watched this and then had a wonderful meditation, full of inner silence….blessings, blessings to you and to your parents, how blessed they are to have a son like you, they must be so happy ❤️
awww. what a delightful message. Thank you so much Joan for your kind words. Greetings to you from Thailand and keep up the great work with your meditation :)
The same way earth has the capacity to create precious gems, heaven also has the capacity to create precious gems. Thank you for the insight. Your authenticity and empathy is truly "contagious". Blessings.

Thank you so much my friend and I'm glad it's helpful :-)
What I appreciate the most about you, Ven. Nick, is that you are a real person and not an act. This video is a good example of it. Thank you for being so forthcoming and so forthright. I have been a fan of yours here on CZcams for many years and look forward to many more years with you.
Thank you so much Donald 😊
Love your style of sharing wisdom. Feels like we go for walks together, bonding over these subjects. Thank you.
Wonderful. Sadhu sadhu. Thank you so much 🙂🙂🙂
Thank you for sharing your personal story 😊 Your entertainment background really resonates with me. Grew up in a entertainment family. Working with business people, artists, „fames“ people my whole life. This lets me reflect my future decisions and gives me more meaning.
😊🤗 thank you for sharing your gems of wisdom. I truly appreciate your kindness and generosity in giving of yourself. 🙏
I worked as a palliative nurse for a while and for some seemedly bizarre reason people have questioned every decision i made about my career beyond that point. I say don't give it a second more thought. You are making the world a far better place than you found it, that should be more than enough.
Thank you for opening up and giving me the insight into the mystery of a Monk's life and world.
Sadhu Sadhu 😊😊 thank you so much Dolores
Hi, Nick, it’s Mepkin 94 again! This resonated with me so much. I will keep it simple. It was interesting to take notice that when you began your life’s story of how people criticized you on CZcams - the longer you spoke the longer the shadows of the Pine trees dispersed and the sunlight shined on you. You have a gift, my friend. Please continue…
sadhu sadhu. thank you so much for your kind words 🙂🙂🙂
Thankyou Nick Keomahavong you are and will continue to be beacon on my journey. Thankyou for your honesty and generousity. I am crying through your videos with a mix of sorrow and joy but most of all a sense of reckoning, long over due. I feel humbled and grateful. It is not only your words of wisdom and experience but what you bring out in others that is the essence to me as I also read the comments of all the others you have touched.
Peace and Love

Deep appreciation for producing content is such magnificent, calming surroundings, Mother Gaia adds such peacefulness and serenity.
Everyone has their own views and perspectives on life and other collective beings, such different and adventurous experiences, on the surface can be very triggering and hitting a raw nerve
within many individuals, painful circumstances and journeys that are still buried very, very deep within. They keep being called, repeatedly to be addressed and healed.
As they say ‘when the student is ready the Master appears’
The Master of awareness sits silently with feather’nudges’ in every lifetime ready, willing and able to assist.
I love Buddhism and meditation, love very in-depth, soul- searching perspectives.
Thank you for your openness and being so authentic.
Many blessings🦋🌏💜
