I forgot that the White Walkers actually made an appearance earlier in the Game of Thrones lore. I wasn’t expecting them to make an appearance in House of the Dragon. That’s gonna be so cool, pun intended. Actually being familiar with the White Walkers, as more than just a legend, makes Aegon’s dread more profound.

I love that the nights watchmen (at least the ones we see in that clip) seem way more impressive then most of the ones we see in GOT. It could just be this group of them but these men seem like actual warriors who probably volunteered like John rather then being mostly poor criminals sentenced to the wall.
Probably to show the difference of managementby the 7 kingdoms to make sure they're all properly staffed and managed. The night watch was in a deplorable state in GOT.
The Nights watch was in a way better state during this time in the books.

The white walkers and the wall was one of my favourite parts from GOT. A supernatural threat looming just outside of a single wall that is stopping them from destroying everything to the south. No army would be able withstand their power

Queen Alysanne was very active in North, expanded the Gift I believe, had a tower named after her and commissioned a bunch of repairs on the wall.
If we see the white walker's, it's gonna be surprising because in the books they are not mentioned, but it could be theme of talk between Lord Cregan and the Targaryen prince and as they talk is showing images of the walker's. But it could happen on the visit to the wall.
And if HBO is doing a serie about Duncan & Egg, we will see something of the Blackfire rebelions and what happened with Brynden Rivers when he becomes the 3 eyed raven on the weirwood tree. Brynden Rivers who is a major caracter in the plot of what happens to Aerys II, and in the Game of thrones series, he totally controls Bran who is only a body the mind is Brynden Rivers and he ends up getting what he always wanted the Iron Throne. The phrase "the things we do for love" is not just a reference to what Jamie did to Bran, it is also to what happened between Brynden Rivers, Lady Shiera, and Aegor Rivers, all bastard sons of Aegon IV, and the phrase "why do you think I came" is reference to what he always wanted, and the phrase "you were where you should be" is proof that he knew and manipulated events. . 🤔
Hopefully White Walkers get done right because that finale of GOT didn’t do them any favors 🥴

I still say that the ice spiders were misinterpreted giant spider crabs. They come out of the sea way up north coated in water, and it freezes them, and they get snowed on and coated in snow and ice and appear like spiders. There are giant spider crabs mentioned in the world of ice and fire book in the section about the far north. I think the white walkers can call up or possess the giant spider crabs like warging and they ride them. That would be somethng from the book series though and who even knows if he will finish the book series at this point
Would be interesting if the white walkers gave a mini-attack to test the wall just as Jace arrived and he joined the fighting. Would explain how he got the north so solidly on his side. Really curious how they gonna do this.

The seed is strong is not meant for the Starks but the Baratheons. The Baratheon always have black hair even the queen that never was is Baratheon from her mother and in the books she has dark hair but in the show they gave her blond hair.
Great news and analysis, Charlie! I kind of hope that House of the Dragon might further mitigate the disappointment with the final season of GAME OF THRONES. I think that they could do this by hinting that the death of a "Night King" wouldn't be a "final boss" (so to speak) but that the Great Others are something much bigger than just one White Walker alone. The show could also ultimately reveal something about what happens after a Targaryen true "dragon" dies. This would have a major impact on an upcoming Jon Snow series.
CORRECTION: there are at least TWO occasions in the very 1st season of GoT (one of which is a clip used in your video) that states the first Long Night was more than ONE thousand years ago; it was MULTIPLE thousandS. the only time the term "a thousand years" is used is by the Three-eyed Raven, while he is teaching Bran in the cave, and he only says that he himself has been stuck in his current tree for that long. even the GoT's bluray features (which are considered canon for the show's version of the universe) state this across several episodes throughout the show's 8 seasons.
No doubt the first long night was thousandS of years ago - but how could bloodraven be in the tree for a thousand years when in present day house of the dragon just over a hundred years before GOT he's not even been born yet 🤣
@@Nerdixy oh, i'm fully aware of how stupid that is. the answer is: because the show's Three-eyed Raven was not the Bloodraven that we are familiar with from the books. Dan & Dave never planned on needing to delve further into who that Three-eyed Raven was. just one of the MANY changes & consolidations that were made from the book (some good, some problematic). that's part of the stupidity. by the time he is part of the show, GoT was so insanely popular, that D&D should have had the foresight to realize that HBO would want to do spinoffs & prequels, and even though they planned on being long gone, they should have still set up small easy details that wouldn't derail things for other writer/producers. all they had to do was slap on a cheap eye patch & paint a birthmark, but they didn't. between that, and the "been here for 1000 yrs" comment, it really makes it impossible for future seasons of HotD to properly setup Brynden Rivers storyline. that is infuriating, since he is such a cool character, with a cool destiny.
I’m at 11:14 in the show it seems the white hair is more dominant as a gene. I think if a targaryen were to have kids with any house they would have the strong white hair. All accept the Starks because of lore reasons would be the only bloodline to counteract this. Princess Rhaenys in the books is supposed to have black hair but she has white.

I think it might be very likely that at least one of Jon/Dany's kids could have silver hair. Yes, brown is dominant, but since Jon has Targaryen genes he would be carrying the silver hair gene even if it didn't show up. That would mean both parents would carry the recessive trait, making it more likely to show up in offspring than if it was only carried by one parent.
It would still be more likely that their kids would have brown/black hair; but not out of the question if they had many children that at least one would have had silver hair. Rhaegar might not have even given Jon the silver hair gene; he could've gotten all of his hair genes from Lyanna.
Not necessarily. Jons genes for hair are probably Bb which means one dominant gene and one recessive gene. Put that in a punnett square with Dany and you get a 50% chance their child has brown or silver hair. Options are Bb, Bb, bb, and bb (bb being silver hair and Bb being brown hair)@@GCOSBenbow

There are about 124 genes that have an impact on hair colour and the way the targ hair tends to disappear on mixing with non valyrians I would assume around 100 of those are vital for targ hair to come about and stay during the transition to adulthood (similar to the genes required to produce vibrant orange hair).
In this case there would need to be around 12 children for a probabilistic chance of a targ haired Dany+Jon baby.
Closer to 30 if Jon inherited 0 from Rhaegar.

Baelor Breakspear looked more dornish, Duncan Targaryen as well, also Rhaenys who was half Baratheon in the books had the classic Baratheon jet black hair and blue eyes

@emergencyawesome To follow up on the hair genetics, John's father was white haired, and mother was black haired, so he is black haired but carries the recessive trait for white, aka he is heterozygous for white hair. If Daenarys and John Snow had children, each child would have a 50% chance of being white or black haired (Homozygous x Heterezygous = 50%/50%).
the Targaryen genes do not follow the typical rules. Most Targaryen descendants have the silver hair and the purple eyes, even if only one parent is a Targaryen. The same goes for the book Velaryons, who look exactly like the Targaryens. The exceptions are:
Rheanys Targaryen (Black hair)
The Strong Boys (all brown hair)
The Baratheon family (Robert, Stannis, Renly, and their father and grandfather, descended from Aegon V's daughter)
All the Martells (Descended from princess Darnerys)
Baelor Breakspear (dark skin, brown eyes, black hair)
Aegor Rivers (Black hair, purple eyes)
Brynden Rivers (Albino, red eyes, white hair)
Prince Duncan, son of Aegon V (Black hair, mother is a Blackwood) and his two brothers

Why aren't they doing a prequel that everyone wants to see, namely the Mad King and the war which led to Robert Baratheon's reign. So many epic mini stories there, the killing of the Stark men, Rhaegar, Stannis, Robert's strength, Iron Islands rebellion, Ser Barristan and the legend that is Arthur Dayne

You are actually wrong because Jon would carry the gene for white hair through his dad. That means half of his kids would have white hair and the other half brown hair. We see this from previous Targaryen marriages to Mariah Martell or Betha Blackwood which have brown hair and still have many kids with white hair and some with brown (but less). And this women (presumably) do not have any Targaryen blood or even Valyrian blood (Mariah Martell might have Targ ancestors but its unconfirmed).

They could have the walkers & night king in the series with minimal input and story continuity by simply making sure that anyone who sees a walker / Night King in the show, is killed by them or somehow no witnesses no story but still present (for us who are outside the story).

Great video as always! One small thing (from a geneticist) about the hair colour of any children between Jon and Danaerys. It would be a 50/50 chance of white hair in any children. This is because Jon must be heterozygous (have one allele/copy of each trait) based on his mother needing to have two copies of the white hair gene to have white hair. Danaerys must also have two copies of the white hair allele as a reccessive trait requires them to have both alleles, so a simple punnet square would show that 50% of Jon and Danaerys' children would have both copies of white hair gene and have white hair, while the other half would be heterozygous like Jon and have a copy of each, but appear to have dark hair as it is dominant like you say.

I loved season 1, but I just felt it was too fast and not enough proper buildup, just my opinion
I've not been able to keep up with the show canon. I probably believe in a mixture of the two and need to double-check my facts whenever I make claims about one or the other. Based on the clip you showed where old Nan says that the long night happened "thousands of years ago" it seems to indicate that it's more a plural, i.e. more than one thousand. There could be other sources in the show indicating that 1000 is right in the show canon after all, though. I think old Nan knows the story more as myths and legends than as accurate history, so the difference between 1000, 8000 or more, doesn't necessarily mean much when coming from her.
When you claim that the 13th lord commander of the watch, the night's king, is being turned into a white walker by the night king it appears to me that you blend element from different canons. In the Game of Thrones show they renamed Asha to Yara to avoid confusion with Osha, so I think it is likely that they will either merge the night’s king and the night king into one and the same character, refer to the 13th lord commander of the night’s watch by a different term, or not mention the 13th lord commander at all. I think having the Night King and the Night's King as two distinct characters is too confusing.

Yes, brown gene is stronger but what pissed me off is that season 1 of HOTD only used that when it was convenient for them. So rheneras kids, everyone talked about being bastards because they had brown hair, but then when alysant has kids with the king all of a sudden this fact is no longer a thing and all the kids have white hair. Wrong. Everyone talked about them being bastards because they had zero resemblance to the Velaryon bloodline. There is NO WAY that a Targaryen + Velaryon marriage will result in TWO straight births of boys with brown hair.
Cause there is a high posibility that Alicent's mother or Grandmother is actually Saera Targaryen. Might be as well that "Father gene for white Hair" is more dominant than female white hair, meaning that Men with white hair are more likely to have kids with white hair with non-white hair females while white hair targ females are less likely to have white hair kids with non-white hair males.
