    This was such a great idea. Thank you so much for the shoutout. LOVE LOVE that Arthur Adams custom. So freaking cool and he signed it!! Thank you so much for putting the freaking Final Orbit in there. Such a necessity for the series.

      Thanks so much! Custom binds always have a great story and history to them. And yeah, final orbit is so essential. I don’t know how you read stormwatch/authority with out it.

    I say go for it. Houchen does a great job and I think it'll be worth it to have a more unique book. It'd be cool if marvel and DC came together to make an omnibus but there's little chance of that. so the hell with it.

      I haven't done any myself yet. I've thought about practicing a bind with Weapon X (BWS) after Jim Rugg did a few a couple months ago on a Cartoonist Kayfabe video.

    Haven't had any Comics bound yet, but I think the two favorites I'm going to do in the future are the captain Canuck classic omnibus which will collect the captain Canuck compendium, captain Canuck unholy war and Captain Canuck classic volume one into one massive omnibus of Captain Canuck, the other is the Seminole series of Jade man comics (a Hong Kong comic company that for a brief time in the 80s published in the states) oriental heroes which by my calculations should take about three volumes and I want to go all out with it, custom stamps and everything cause I love this series so much and want to put it up on my shelf next to stuff like dark horses large format hardback manga volumes and have it look nice

    Such an awesome video prevention. Love your top 10, even if I’m not familiar with all of them. I say bind those Marvel/ DC trades...they’re never going to do it anyway so make your own 👍😎

    I’d do the Marvel ones. If it’s just for you then who cares what they’re worth, and if you want to get rid of them in the future they’d probably go for even more bound. Those books are scattered and to get them all in one spot is impossible. Also, I love seeing people’s custom binds, so if you make more of these videos I know I’ll be excited

    I really love how you have a wrap around cover for all your books & you use Houchen. I am completely new & was wondering how do you make your own wrap around? Or can I just send them a picture and they use it for the front/back? thanks so much!

    • @thecomicarchive
      @thecomicarchive  Před 3 lety

      There are a few options. I am comfortable with photoshop so I can make my own covers. I usually scan in images from the books before I send them off and use those. But houchen does offer those kinds of services too for those who aren’t as comfortable with making their own covers.

    I’d love to make custom bound comics, but my problem is I have seen custom binds where the gutters are practically gone.

    • @thecomicarchive
      @thecomicarchive  Před 3 lety

      Yeah that can happen depending on the book and bindery. That’s why I go with smyth sewn binding every chance I get.

    Very cool custom binds here. Love the AKIRA one especially. Did you end up binding the Marvel vs DC crossovers in an omnibus? I think that could be really fun.

    • @thecomicarchive
      @thecomicarchive  Před 3 lety +1

      I did! It came out amazing. I used scans from the cover of the original Spider-Man/superman crossover with all the dings and scuffs on there.

    You're kidding me haha! I came here looking for information on custom binds because I want to custom bind my Akira collection and you have that as your #1 Would you be willing to offer any suggestions on how I should go about it? I've never had this done before so my experience is limited to what people have posted here on CZcams.

    • @thecomicarchive
      @thecomicarchive  Před 4 lety

      For the Akira bind I went with oversewn binding, it’s sturdy and took the issues well. I divided mine into four volumes and that worked out well. Though you could easily do six volumes to match the way the series is typically divided. As far as further details I am working on a detailed primer on custom hardcover binding. And if you just want someone to take care of everything for you I know that Omahabound is a place that can handle the whole process. But let me know if you have any specific questions, I’m always happy to help.

    I say bind those books. Let's face it you never are going to sell them so why not bind them? ! Also I have a question. What software do you use to make those great covers?

    • @thecomicarchive

      I just use photoshop. There are a ton of great options out there though.

  • @davidrobertson2686

    Do you keep in contact with Houchen? I read that there was a change in management/ownership but no further detail. I’ve emailed them general q’s about my hopeful custom binds but to no avail. I don’t feel good just sending the comics in before getting contacted by them. Do you just send them and wait for them to contact you? Or do you get a response back before mailing in your floppies? Thanks man. Love your optic nerve!

    • @thecomicarchive
      @thecomicarchive  Před 4 lety +1

      I haven’t heard anything about a change in ownership or management. The point of contact over there has changed though. It was Tim Benson for a while and now it’s Thomas Salistean. He’s been great to deal with. I send them stuff without letting them know it’s on the way. Once they receive it they let you know it’s all checked in. Pretty painless process.

    • @davidrobertson2686

      The Comic Archive maybe that’s what I read...on a few posts in forums on cgc saying that they were bought by a larger book binding company mainly for textbooks...but forum posts can be unreliable. I’ve asked Omar and Jess too bc houchen didn’t respond after 4 months. But I guess you just send them in and THEN they contact you? Thanks for the info. Your video on designing your optic nerve helped me with my own custom aspirations

    • @thecomicarchive
      @thecomicarchive  Před 3 lety

      I like to scan my books before I send them off to be bound. This gives a really high quality image. Other than that you can use google image searching and set the filters to only show high resolution images.

    What is pure binding opposed to binding?

    • @thecomicarchive
      @thecomicarchive  Před 4 lety

      PUR is just a type of glue used in binding. It’s good for when you are binding comics with glossy covers.

    Where do your books for X-O and Solar jump off?

    • @thecomicarchive
      @thecomicarchive  Před 4 lety

      For x-o I start with issue zero and go up to 32. For solar I took all the alpha/omega bits and started it with that, then issue 1 through 37.
