    I now think I should collect all my comics from the 80s and 90s and do this. At first when I collected it was about future value now that I am older I appreciate the art work. Good vid. Thanks

      One of the big things I like about binding is that it invites you to read them much more than a long box does. There are a ton of books out there that are such great experiences, whether from the art or story. I would rather enjoy them than have them sit in the box.

    Awesome video. I love custom binding for comic books. Both books look incredibly good. I really like your videos

    Great vid. Love the comparisons between the two binderies. I've only ever used Houchen (I tend to lean toward graphic covers), but I have always heard wonderful things about Herring & Robinson.

      I mostly go with houchen. In the last year I’ve gotten a few binds from herring and Robinson and been very happy with the results.

    Awesome vid dude, I love your comic binding videos, they've helped me a ton figure out stuff related to binding and make decisions on what books I want to get bound and how I want them bound

    I love the ads, it's like a timestamp of the world at that point. And I think I'll stick with Herring and Robinson, I prefer their costumer service

      I do love the ads. Especially house ads, those get me so into whatever the time period was. Herring and Robinson is awesome. I think they are changing ownership. I’m definitely going to try to send in some books to try them out and see how things are after they reopen in January.

      @@thecomicarchive well looks like they closed down instead of new owners 😕

    Awesome comparison! I recently had a few hardcovers done in Herring & Robinson's "Leather" option. Are both of these editions in Buckram? I love the look of the H&R you've got there and want to try out that material. Thanks!

    I want to use houchen bindery. How much is shipping for two books from the company?

    Have you ever gotten a book done by Heroes Rebound?

      I haven’t personally. You thinking of using them? You might want to go on the Unbound Comics Facebook group and ask there.

    Q: About how long does it take for houchen to bind your book.

    • @thecomicarchive
      @thecomicarchive  Před 2 lety

      It varies. I would say the average is four months. They get really busy during the summer so sometimes that slows the process down.

      @@thecomicarchive wow thanks just sent in 4 books earlier this month. My first binds. Thanks for taking the time to answer.

      No problem. I know some folks are also nervous when they don’t hear back from Houchen regarding their books. Houchen doesn’t usually email you until later in the process. They get the books and just start working on them. I don’t hear from them until they have measurements for graphic covers or a bill to send me.

      Thanks yes i was kinda like i know they got my books but have not heard from them. I knew it was a long process but didn't think 4 months, its good to know that the time frame and that until they ready with measurement I wont hear from them. Thanks again.

    1:59 Kinda ironic, don't you think... Mega-Con Allison Mack...? Con, as in convict... Ahh? Ahh? Okay, I'm sorry. I'll just show myself out now...

    I dont know how people deal with losing so much of the gutter... it can make sections impossible to read, and makes clean compositions look messy and chaotic

    • @thecomicarchive
      @thecomicarchive  Před 2 lety

      I hear you. One of the biggest reasons I like smyth sewn. Though I have had some great results from Houchen doing dfab binding. Not zero gutter loss, but still pretty good work to minimize.
