  • This day was…. DELICIOUS! But also incredibly emotional (had a bit of a catastrophic cake event…) To some, this day might look like a cheat day. And as a Registered dietitian I often get asked “How often should you have a cheat day?” and “how often should you have a cheat meal?” My answer? Pretty simple. Never. As I explain in this video they do much more harm than good both mentally and physically.
Instead, work to regain control around food and remove the need TO have a cheat day.
Need a little help? Sign up for this free training “The 7 Mistakes To Avoid To Regain Control Around Food 5x Faster”. You’ll get an exact roadmap of what to do so you don’t feel the need to have a cheat day!

I'm so happy I found your content. Im attempting to heal my relationship with food as I attempt to teach my son to have a health relationship with food. Not labeling food is so challenging for me. I was so proud of him listening to his body at lunch today. He left a cheeto on his plate because he was all done. I struggle dailey with that kind of healthy behavior!

The bakery probably should've used skewers or something to hold the top layer in place. I'm glad you guys still had your cake and ate it too even though the top slid off! Much love to you Colleen! 🖤

Hey!!! Such a great Q and am adding it to my list! The biggest piece of advice I have is to shift your focus from weight loss (a number and size goal) to your behaviors and what FEELS good. From there your body's weight will fall where it wants to be- for some that is weight loss or gain!

Thank you so much! I think I'm developing a better relationship with food, but unfortunately, my parents still have the 'diet culture' mentality, which doesn't help me. I even asked them to avoid those topics when I'm around, but specific comments continue :( Any advice?

I’ve recently developed an ED since ive been counting calories and totalling fat in what I eat. It’s becoming obsessive and I’ve only be eating fruits and vegetables. I always feel faint, fatigued and depressed and dependant on coffee but I’ve lost all my muscle mass but I can’t stop starving myself

Could you talk more about letting go of the guilt. In my town, every other Friday, a Mennonite family sells home made sourdough donuts. They are so delicious. I have struggled with my weight throughout the years, I remember the "advice" of if I eat one doughnut, then I am going to devour all things sugar. I have noticed when I don't beat myself up, all I want is one. When I do get mad at myself I binge on sugary foods. I would love to let go of this.

Genuine question here. I love nutrition (that's how the algorithm go me here I guess), and try my best every day, but who is this channel meant for? You use phrases like "shame" and "feel bad" and that sounds more like disordered eating than being overly nutritious. You can tell from the lingo and videos you're also battling something serious. Striving to be "physically healthy and well" is significantly different that being afraid to eat. That's a disorder. I think you and your followers could benefit from therapy if it is causing this much strain and effort, and they'd probably benefit from you taking the lead. There's a channel called Nutrition By Kylie and she's super honest about her past with disordered eating, she talks about how she's overcome (as much as a human can) and how to make quick, low stress, crazy nutritious meals to keep up with bouts of lagging mental health, whatever it may be.

    Hey Colleen,
I read your emails and follow you on CZcams but let me tell you, without wanting to criticize your body shape, especially since you are trying so hard to help young girls, that for someone who has left behind his food obsessions, who eats whatever he craves and whenever he craves it, your body looks too skinny.
I say again, with no intention of criticizing or doing to yourself what we all despise, body shaming!
I just see girls who have similar channels who by leaving behind all the food obsessions etc have gained a much fuller body, you know what I mean, feminine, curvy.
Forgive me if I offend you as I don't have that intention but you don't convince me.
If you eat whatever you want and you're so skinny, is there perhaps an issue with your metabolism or your thyroid?
Look for example at girls like Stephanie Buttermore and so many others.
I understand that comparisons are not helpful and that every person is unique but I repeat, you don't convince me.
So, how were you like when you were obsessed with food and exercise, did all your bones show?
You've probably never been overweight, right?
We who have been overweight and entered the bad mindset of losing weight by extension food obsessions to be accepted and now trying to overcome the fears of food groups and giving in to our old habits (eating breads, chocolates, ice creams every day) and we automatically gained a lot of weight and maybe even surpassed our old self who was already overweight, your very thin figure does not help.
Because quite simply we get fat with the air.
We won't eat everything and become skeletons like you.
That's all, and with no intention of insulting or offending you.
