The Merc getting through shows that 99% of the others could have made it if they had a brain between them.
In my opinion the only one with the brain was the gray hatchback that turned right at 1:23.
And even the Merc was going a bit too fast and was catching up with the bow wave.
If you're forced into a situation where crossing the water is your only option, approaching it at low speed to avoid bow wave and water ingress into the air intake (worst case, resulting in a hydrolocked engine) and by keeping the revs up you'll prevent water flooding the exhaust pipe and rear box (also smothers the engine). As long as the deepest part of the water remains lower than the air intake, your vehicle should pass through without incident. Where I lived a few years ago was prone to similar flooding. I wouldn't want to cough up the repair bill for the damage caused by water ingress into an engine.

It's just crazy how many approaching drivers see the crowd gathered around the ford, see all the recovery trucks and stranded vehicles scattered all around and still do not hear the alarm bells ringing before they proceed to floor it and destroy their engine making themselves look like absolute tits in front of everybody. Brilliant! It never gets old.
Don’t forget: these are the people who elected a party which considers making the same clown prime minister again they considered being completely unfit for office just a few months ago.

We only see the ford bit, it is part of the old mill which has a lake and it is indeed a historical place and tourist attraction with a car park for visitors

What I don't understand is that after so many years, people still think they have to drive through the ford so quickly and wreck their engines in the process. Word should have gotten around that if you drive fast through the ford, the engine sucks in water and is wrecked, which is very, very expensive.
