      Yep. The amount of effort people on the internet waste trying to justify why something/anything that isn't Japanese/American/etc. is "a sack of complete fucking shit" is truly staggering.
      I truly think I am in a minority on YT that I appreciate a whole different bunch of vehicles, without needing to be pissy about those that are different. Hell, I don't even think being 0.1s slower around a track or getting from 0-100mph 0.1s slower than a competitor makes something "a sack of shit". Fanboys are truly bizarre people, I will never understand them, but I actually am glad about that since it makes me feel I am not as dumb as they are!

      ZIGZAG, you are like me then. I appreciate absolutely anything in the automotive world. To be honest, I cannot even say what engine layout I like more or which producer's V8 is the best sounding, they are all great. So if you think about me as biased, please don't. This wasn't meant as hate or anything like that, just to show some awesome JDM V8s.

    • @ZIGZAG12345
      @ZIGZAG12345 Před 7 lety +3

      Yeah I don't think that about you, I have seen quite a few of your vids on here and know you are pretty neutral and cover a wide range of stuff. I was more talking about some of the sweary commenters;

      etc. ;-)

    • @jay2012m
      @jay2012m Před 7 lety +3

      Well - it is the variations that make it interesting - different head layouts, different cranks (90 vs 180 crank) even block angle (a 60 degree V8?!) affect sound and performance. Exhaust design makes a big difference to sound, too. Fun stuff!

      this is a common occurrence. there are always more 'warning' comments where people warn even without seeing what they are warning about. I was watching a h3h3 video just now called this weird city is freaking me out where they visited israel and there was the sound of islamic prayer call since they are close by palestine. I swear I saw at least 30-35 'incoming butthurt muslims' 'brace yourself' etc comments. I think I could've found more but didn't scroll down further. needless to say, I didn't see any hateful 'butthurt' comment from muslims. I saw a few muslim comments saying they enjoy h3h3 videos.

      JR Only one I know about right now is a V70 on the junkyard by the road number 7 in Poland.
      Don't know how the town is named (only know it's somewhere between Ryki and Garwolin, and the opposite lot has an 80s Chrysler on it), and that exact car might as well be an I4.
      So, I don't know about any that is certainly an I5 and on a junkyard right now. I might check what engine the V70 has next time I'll be passing by the yard, if it is still there.
      Also, the junkyard I5s are mostly diesels.

    Why mention American v8s at all? Can't you just title the video "5 Japanese v8 engines that sound good"? It seems like you're trying to upset people, especially since the U.S. is known for its v8 engines.

      To be honest, it is a form of clickbait and I did it with the huge popularity of V8 engines in the USA in my mind. I am not trying to piss anybody off, a normal car guy would say - yeah, they sound good like the other V8s - or something like that and would not care about it much. These type of video actually show how many of the die-hard fans of the US V8s are there. I say the JDM are great, the US are great, the EU are great including the Australian ones - each engine is just a little different. The title is there just to attract attention

    I'm sorry but there is no way in hell Japan can beat that wonderful, throaty, burbly, iconic sound of the American V8. Germany can't either. It is a unique sound that only Detroit has ever been able to produce, and while other nations can build sonorous V8s, they can never beat that distinctive, literally earth shaking rumble that some proper Detroit Iron produces. The Aussies come real damn close, but that's mostly because their V8s are just carbon copies of ours, in fact, a lot of their V8s *are* ours. They love the GM LS V8 as much as we do.
    It's not just 'oh this muscle car sounds nice'. It's 'I heard that burble over the radio, and despite never even having seen the vehicle it came from and living halfway around the world, I know EXACTLY what it is, where it was made.'

    How do I start this... I am by no means a fanboy of American engines, nor do I have anything against Japanese engineering. The Japanese are good at getting a lot of power out of a comparably small displacement, and they're unquestionably the best at it, or at least better than the crazed possibly meth addicted Germans who are so obsessed with efficiency that now they've started putting Turbos inside engine blocks. However, in terms of long term reliability and absolute maximum output (FULLY built with a final price tag more than some peoples houses) American V8's always have been and always will be light years (yes, as in the unit of distance) ahead of anything made by any other brands from any other country ever. Pretty much all blueprint engines made specifically for drag racing are based on American OHV designs, usually Big Block Chevy's or Mopar HEMI's. Ford engines too, of course, they're just usually way more expensive. I actually really like all of the engines you put on this list, and I would happily daily any of them, but American V8's are still by far the best. Now, in terms of stock performance, I'll admit a vast majority of American V8's are complete dogs, but then again, we still have engines like the 5.2L Voodoo, 5.0L Coyote, 4.6L Iron Block Mod motor (although it did come factory supercharged), a whole bunch of bullshit letters and numbers that can be summed up by just saying GM LS, and a few of the newer Mopar HEMI'S like the 392 are pretty damn potent too. Now please, can't we all just get along?

      Many non-americans are on a lifelong quest to prove to themselves and anyone who will listen, that Americans aren't good (or in this case 'the best') at anything, when in actuality, most of modern technology is the result of German-American ingenuity.. though that doesn't stop jews from trying to steal all the credit.

      Car Lover If you took a Ford big block and a GM big block and wanted to make... Let's say 1000 Horsepower, you would need to spend significantly more on the Ford block than the GM block to make the same power. This has nothing to do with the designs of the engines themselves, but aftermarket parts for a Ford block are significantly more expensive than a GM block. This of course doesn't apply to EVERY V8 Ford and GM have ever built, it's just a general rule. And, if you're willing to spend the money, there are a lot of Ford blocks that can go a lot further than Mopar and GM blocks of similar size and valvetrain. DOHC V8's especially, even an Aluminum block 4.6L DOHC Modular can make 1000+ rwhp whereas 5.3L LS's struggle to make anything over 600, even fully built.

Here in the states the lack of love for imported V8's has a lot to do with their cost and complexity, for what seems like no real gain in power, reliability, or economy. Sure the specific output is higher on a lot of import V8's, but a 400hp engine weighing 550 lbs, is a 450 hp engine weighing 550 lbs. Whether it's a 1L, or a 8L.

    When you talk about the Volvo V8 engine you are COMPLETELY WRONG! That is indeed the Taurus SHO engine. Ford took a V6 engine from the Modeo car that was sold in Europe in the '90's and added two cylinders to the middle. They then hired Yamaha to design [not build, just design...] the cylinder heads. This was the 234 hp Taurus SHO V8. Later, Ford-owned Volvo bored and stroked this engine design out to 4.4 liters, and that is the 60 degree V8 that Volvo sells to this day. It is a Ford based engine.
