Japan, Europe, or America. A v8 is a v8. We all love them, so let's take a breather and appreciate the dying N/A breed..
Generic Memes at least someone speaks sense.
Yep. The amount of effort people on the internet waste trying to justify why something/anything that isn't Japanese/American/etc. is "a sack of complete fucking shit" is truly staggering.
I truly think I am in a minority on YT that I appreciate a whole different bunch of vehicles, without needing to be pissy about those that are different. Hell, I don't even think being 0.1s slower around a track or getting from 0-100mph 0.1s slower than a competitor makes something "a sack of shit". Fanboys are truly bizarre people, I will never understand them, but I actually am glad about that since it makes me feel I am not as dumb as they are!
ZIGZAG, you are like me then. I appreciate absolutely anything in the automotive world. To be honest, I cannot even say what engine layout I like more or which producer's V8 is the best sounding, they are all great. So if you think about me as biased, please don't. This wasn't meant as hate or anything like that, just to show some awesome JDM V8s.
Yeah I don't think that about you, I have seen quite a few of your vids on here and know you are pretty neutral and cover a wide range of stuff. I was more talking about some of the sweary commenters;
"It costs $100k more and is less aerodynamic, it fucking sucks in comparison!"
etc. ;-)
Well - it is the variations that make it interesting - different head layouts, different cranks (90 vs 180 crank) even block angle (a 60 degree V8?!) affect sound and performance. Exhaust design makes a big difference to sound, too. Fun stuff!
I saw more "V8 fanboys triggered" than actual hate comments
That's actually true.
No lie they are good v8 none them can touch a GT350 5.2
this is a common occurrence. there are always more 'warning' comments where people warn even without seeing what they are warning about. I was watching a h3h3 video just now called this weird city is freaking me out where they visited israel and there was the sound of islamic prayer call since they are close by palestine. I swear I saw at least 30-35 'incoming butthurt muslims' 'brace yourself' etc comments. I think I could've found more but didn't scroll down further. needless to say, I didn't see any hateful 'butthurt' comment from muslims. I saw a few muslim comments saying they enjoy h3h3 videos.
billy heaton that true bro that FPC is awesome
Left as soon as I heard the talking.
sebastianblevdet No one gives a fuck
sebastianblevdet same, the way he says Toyota is cringe warning.
English is not his mother tongue. So what
would you try to benchpress 250lbs if you are not a bodybuilder or strong person? NO. So if your english is not good, dont try to talk.
sebastianblevdet His English is very good. I was impressed with his pronouncing of words. It's just his accent that let's off that he's Asian or something
Incoming American V8 Fanboy Hate! Brace yourselves!
Tell me how ?
you are a loser troll
Pokecraft03 Car Catcher you never even drove a v8 stick to you're 1.0l 3 cylinder shit box.
Is that all you got keyboard warrior? You are a pathetic excuse for a human go play in traffic little kid.
FFS, you are BOTH as bad as each other. How fuckin old are you two?
Grow the fuck up. Neither of you sound old enough for a scooter, going off this little exchange.
How to trigger American V8 Fanboys 101
By calling people fanboys for no reason.
LOL nobody said anything but you Moron
Pokecraft03 Car Catcher i bet he is a trump suppprter.
Pokecraft03 Car Catcher I love American V8's. I'm fine. These sound good.
mysock351C
thats your problem.
This video isn't meant as a hate, there are just some engines that can sound better to one's ears. Of course, there are some American V8 that cannot be beat by anything, just don't take this video too seriously if you don't like it. Enjoy your watching!
Hate is meaningless nowadays.
quality content right here
VisioRacer Ever heard of the word "average".

Oh the Volvo man, now i dont know which one to buy a S80 V8 or an S60R :/ V8 vs the glorious Turbo Inline 5
rudkacka V8. The "glorious" I5 seems to be one of the junkyard fillers where I live.
Car Lover Tell me where that is, I'd love to get my hands on a Volvo inline 5 engine
JR Only one I know about right now is a V70 on the junkyard by the road number 7 in Poland.
Don't know how the town is named (only know it's somewhere between Ryki and Garwolin, and the opposite lot has an 80s Chrysler on it), and that exact car might as well be an I4.
So, I don't know about any that is certainly an I5 and on a junkyard right now. I might check what engine the V70 has next time I'll be passing by the yard, if it is still there.
Also, the junkyard I5s are mostly diesels.
s80 is newer, s60r parts are rare now
owning s80 v8 i would say go for s80 as it sound awesome :D
You are a true automotive enthusiast. I appreciate the detail you bring to your videos. I don't know how you get all this great footage but I am really enjoying it.
1:08 HWOWOA that ISF makes ITB noises!!!
Sounds awesome, indeed
This is completely subjective. Even as a JDM fanboy I can't agree. Us strayans have the best sounding V8's. I think
Nope europe does
Strayans V8 are just borrowed from GM
@DVN Right? I think both the Barra v8 and turbo inline 6 are badass. If only we got em' here in the states.
Australia Holden built engines are the best V8 engines made ever... all Holden V8s from VS to VT had about 503 Nm of torque...
GTSR holds these numbers Pluss more
Holden never told anyone the true power of their 215i engine
@@mayuravirus6134 wrong holden built their own engines that are more powerful then the corvette engines that came after get your facts straight.
All holden engines produced more torque, and were always more powerful.
those Volvos at 4:07 made satisfying sounds lol.
Your narration is certainly getting better and thanks for bringing the text descriptions back. Keep up the good work
The "here come the V8 fanboys" to "actual fanboys" comment ratio is staggering.
that volvo sounded amazing, now i want one
Hmm, altough i like and love the sound of other modern types of v8's, really nothing beats the spirit of old american pushrod v8's imo :)
Rick van den Berg if its a v8, it should be american.
Kanggoo ecaxtly right! no replacement for displacement!
Rick van den Berg yup haha
I wish i could own a v8 but finnish gas prices are fucking high as fuck 1.6 euro per liter or about 5.8 euros per gallon :(((
Kanggoo i feel your pain bro, i live im the netherlands and i own a 1973 cadillac coupe de ville, with 7.7 litre engine, we also pay 1.60 euros for a litre of gasoline, its expensive, but so much worth it! the key is to not use the car everyday haha
Rick van den Berg holy hell thats a huge engine haha
I drive a st162 toyota celica with a 2.0 liter engine haha :P
Why mention American v8s at all? Can't you just title the video "5 Japanese v8 engines that sound good"? It seems like you're trying to upset people, especially since the U.S. is known for its v8 engines.
To be honest, it is a form of clickbait and I did it with the huge popularity of V8 engines in the USA in my mind. I am not trying to piss anybody off, a normal car guy would say - yeah, they sound good like the other V8s - or something like that and would not care about it much. These type of video actually show how many of the die-hard fans of the US V8s are there. I say the JDM are great, the US are great, the EU are great including the Australian ones - each engine is just a little different. The title is there just to attract attention
Why do Americans always get so butt hurt over everything?
PatrickEVRAable I'm not butt hurt.
Becauae americans are always like v8 this v8 that. They thinkv8 is the only way and die hard fans. Most people that watch this are american so theyll click right away!
Minor correction: the 1UR was a replacement for the also all aluminum 4.3l 3UZ . The 2UZ was specifically designed as a low revving, high torque, truck motor (Tundra, LC family, Sequoia, 4Runner/Hilux Surf) and never found its way into any sedans.
The Lexus IS F and the Volvo sounded the best!
1:18!!!😍😍
I agree
No nissan 5.6? That's one of the best V8 engines ever!
This dude knows what's up
Geiokami Hasuki yes the VK56 engine 660bhp tuned
Geiokami Hasuki that's in my moms armada. Lol
Geiokami Hasuki change a starter on that 5.6, & I swear to god you'll be singing a different tune.
The Swamp Fox
still an amazing engine
That 1uz sounds similar to a 4.6 dohc from ford and im in love
I dont care where its made, if it sounds good and makes power reliably , I like it
nothing beats the sound of a flathead v8
I gotta agree, a flathead V8 sounds nuts
Sadly murica mostly doesnt know what a overhead cam is
what about the MODULAR
They said, "Carby OHV LS better, lol"
I do, have a couple BMW M62 cars, 96 Q45 VH45DE, had Mercedes V8s. Also have fun in an 05 Caddy STS northstar. Like them all. Small block Chevy is what I ave the most experience with. Cheapest and easiest to make power with by far. LS is a good engine, simple, good flowing heads, EFI, and compact.
God you're a dumb fuck
@@noname-zy4sl Not to mention lightweight, ESPECIALLY for the output.
it's nice to have a eurocentric car channel on youtube as there as a lot of america centric ones and it's tiring getting that all the time if you're in the european market
I try to not be biased to anything. Of course, I like to say my opinion, but I appreciate any engine, any car wherever it was built.
Junkyard LS 5.3 sounds better than all these
TheGeekwad so true
butthurt much? TRIGGERED
rudkacka lol how do you get "he's definitely butthurt" from that comment
the reason foreign v8s sound gutless is because they are overhead cam and that is also where all the missing torque goes
Trevor Scott so true
Do a top 10 on non American V8's!
Lysergic Casserole Theres probably only 5.
@@Overqualified1 BMW and Mercedes Benz alone would fill up the top 10

I'm sorry but there is no way in hell Japan can beat that wonderful, throaty, burbly, iconic sound of the American V8. Germany can't either. It is a unique sound that only Detroit has ever been able to produce, and while other nations can build sonorous V8s, they can never beat that distinctive, literally earth shaking rumble that some proper Detroit Iron produces. The Aussies come real damn close, but that's mostly because their V8s are just carbon copies of ours, in fact, a lot of their V8s *are* ours. They love the GM LS V8 as much as we do.
It's not just 'oh this muscle car sounds nice'. It's 'I heard that burble over the radio, and despite never even having seen the vehicle it came from and living halfway around the world, I know EXACTLY what it is, where it was made.'
Yamaha knows its stuff...!
The cross-plane R1 is by far the best sounding inline-4 engine to date... Let it be a car or motorcycle...
1UZus is my Nippon Steel lord!
...also has a variant that is FAA approved for aircraft use
3:20 that is a weird way to hold the stick
That is generally shitty way of driving...
it's just how he's comfortable.
Also- this car is a custom build- 1UZ never came in a manual- it's been converted with a new flywheel, clutch, etc; to take possibly Supra box?? And driver things he's awesome so smashes those shifts lol!
v8 is my favorite engine displacement..american make this engineering from the '50ties..they have a car tradition and a subculture with the drag race..in europe have another culture with rally and f1 race series..but Who love cars love the speed!..the engine sound is only the soundtrack of the race..
Pretty sweet sounding motors! Also there are some new Ford engines that sound amazing.
The Volvo/Yamaha 4.4l v8 and the MB 6.2l v8 cannot be beaten soundwise.
Except by the Alfa Romeo 2.6l v8 from the Montreal.
Love the sound of that VH45DE, sounds unique. And ofc that Volvo engine
More like VH56DE
Huh? VH56DE ?
@VisioRacer. I think you forget about one engine from the Nissan engine family
The VK engines are used in their newer Nissan President and Infiniti Q45. You can say it is the successor of the VH engines.
The VK56 fully NA tuned produces 660 BHP at the crank
V8's always sound the best no matter where they're from, best sounding block design! I still feel nothing can beat a 5.0 Coyote or 5.2 Voodoo though. That ISF does sound pretty dope though
I6s 👀
@@Yumadlol Eh, not really. Better than V6's and I4 tho
@@BlueOvals24 a proper rb26 or a 1j> best sounding v8 gotta be an s65 tho
@@Yumadlol No not even an rb26 dude. The 4.0 they used in Jeeps would be the best sounding 6. S65 is good but not Coyote or 4uz or 1uz good.
@@BlueOvals24 oh hell no💀
Always loved the sound of a Lexus v8
Digging the voice overs and subtitles good job
Japanese V8 feels so Murican, mustang GT350R and Lexus LS400 and crown vic sound SO NICE.
thats volvo sound great!!
All v8 sound great, but a camed and flowmaster exhaust old american v8 sounds like heaven.
can you make a german version of v8?
My neighbor has a black S80 V8.. that thing sounds amazing.
different strokes for different folks.
I'd take a cammed ls7 or maserati v8 as my top 2
This title had me about to jump off a bridge 😭😂😂
How do I start this... I am by no means a fanboy of American engines, nor do I have anything against Japanese engineering. The Japanese are good at getting a lot of power out of a comparably small displacement, and they're unquestionably the best at it, or at least better than the crazed possibly meth addicted Germans who are so obsessed with efficiency that now they've started putting Turbos inside engine blocks. However, in terms of long term reliability and absolute maximum output (FULLY built with a final price tag more than some peoples houses) American V8's always have been and always will be light years (yes, as in the unit of distance) ahead of anything made by any other brands from any other country ever. Pretty much all blueprint engines made specifically for drag racing are based on American OHV designs, usually Big Block Chevy's or Mopar HEMI's. Ford engines too, of course, they're just usually way more expensive. I actually really like all of the engines you put on this list, and I would happily daily any of them, but American V8's are still by far the best. Now, in terms of stock performance, I'll admit a vast majority of American V8's are complete dogs, but then again, we still have engines like the 5.2L Voodoo, 5.0L Coyote, 4.6L Iron Block Mod motor (although it did come factory supercharged), a whole bunch of bullshit letters and numbers that can be summed up by just saying GM LS, and a few of the newer Mopar HEMI'S like the 392 are pretty damn potent too. Now please, can't we all just get along?
Many non-americans are on a lifelong quest to prove to themselves and anyone who will listen, that Americans aren't good (or in this case 'the best') at anything, when in actuality, most of modern technology is the result of German-American ingenuity.. though that doesn't stop jews from trying to steal all the credit.
Sexual_Assault_Rifle Canadians mostly grew up with the same automotive market as us
MaxTheKanuck Ford engines are expensive? The ones I've been seeing seem to be much cheaper than GM engines.
Car Lover not hardly
Car Lover If you took a Ford big block and a GM big block and wanted to make... Let's say 1000 Horsepower, you would need to spend significantly more on the Ford block than the GM block to make the same power. This has nothing to do with the designs of the engines themselves, but aftermarket parts for a Ford block are significantly more expensive than a GM block. This of course doesn't apply to EVERY V8 Ford and GM have ever built, it's just a general rule. And, if you're willing to spend the money, there are a lot of Ford blocks that can go a lot further than Mopar and GM blocks of similar size and valvetrain. DOHC V8's especially, even an Aluminum block 4.6L DOHC Modular can make 1000+ rwhp whereas 5.3L LS's struggle to make anything over 600, even fully built.
Thanks for adding the script back, It is more interesting with the video narration and the script
Hey man great videos dude
The VK56VD!! Amazing engine, should've made the list.
Merc' make the best sounding V8's. But that Volvo does sound great.
We can't forget about Jag either. That F Type SVR sound is incredible.
UGU Zach Yeah!
That fucking infinity sounded good as hell ive heard very few better than that
yea...these Do not sound better than American V8's everyone is good at something but Americans makes some of the best V8 engines...
Australia is my runner up.
I feel like people are missing the point. He's not talking about a Japanese v8 whipping American Mopars ass, because stuck in any given dragster, US muscle would win all day, no. He's simply pointing out the sound of each engine along with a small description. Frankly they do sound better than a lot of US V8s. They're not going to blow your ear drums out when they fire up, but they do sound gorgeous.
Nothing beats a classic muscle car v8 ... nothing
Vixzen i agree. Nothing does
Xploding-turtle honestly though we need to go back what happened to hearing cars when they idle you cant hear cars idle now a days!?
Vixzen IKR? even supercars can't be heard at idle
Vixzen yess! I wanna hear that awesome growl while idling
Zach Haus fanboy detected
I've driven many of those V8 Volvos and although they're not that fast they still sound amazing.
the Lexus ls400 v8 takes a shit on any Chevy LS platform. can an LS engine balance a coin on the intake manifold? I don't think so
Not ownlly that but the TQ figures on them are nuts! And there half the size of most US V8. I'm sorry but japanese V8 are great they really are. a 4.6L V8 producing more power and almost more torque then most US stander V8s.
sinosuke12345 yes but the "bigger" LS motor will always be quicker and it's lighter than most v8s and when v6s
Bob jefferson Not always the case. It depends how you tune it. And I'm sorry. I just rather prefer the Japanese V8s. And to me personally the LS V8s just sound annoying. Like all bark but no bite. Again just my opinion.
Frigglebiscuit haha you should care I'd want a smooth performing v8 over a shaky pos American v8 lol and I'm pretty sure this v8 would stand a good chance against an electric motor balancing a coin.
TheOne AndOnly first mistake: "you should". I couldnt give two fucks about your opinion. Shaky v8? Who gets to determime what is and isnt shaky? Your stupid ass? Gtfo here. Caught a block from me.
Feels strange to see a civilised Volvo with such a primal growl. It's like Wolverine in a tuxedo.
sound is opinion. stop stating shit like this as if it was fact.
It is a subjective thing, yes, so why are you getting angry about it?
VisioRacer because you are stating as if your opinion is fact when it's not.
Agerix Official and you are getting mad over something pointless
Love my 1UZFE. 250 hp out of 4 liters when American v8's where getting 210 out of 5 liters.
but none of these can't even come close to a junkyard chevy 350 lol
K
FUCK BOT BITCH
The 1UR-FE wasn't just built for the middle east, it was also used in SUVs and trucks.
dont want to be rude but in enjoyed your videos more when you didn't talk and had the blue speech box's
Don't wanna be rude but i enjoy when you don't waste oxygen
Straight pipe your S80 and confuse the hell out of people who look around expecting to see some kind of sports car :D Seriously though, that thing sounds unbelievably good.
You're obviously never listened to the rumble of a well tuned big block 454.

Classic American V8s sound best honestly, that Nissan/infinity sounded terrible to me personally
KSZ Razor totaly agree, although seeing that volvo with the v8 just gave me headache. My brain couldn’t process the image and the sound that was coming from said image :D
That Volvo with the Yamaha sounds totally boss
@@atabaysal3287 all these are falt plane crank V8's american V8 sounds aggressive cuz basically all of em have cross plane cranks, the only flat plane crank american V8 is the modern Ford 5.2 voodoo V8 from the Shelby GT350R
Although I don't share your opinion, I can respect it. Here in the states the lack of love for imported V8's has a lot to do with their cost and complexity, for what seems like no real gain in power, reliability, or economy. Sure the specific output is higher on a lot of import V8's, but a 400hp engine weighing 550 lbs, is a 450 hp engine weighing 550 lbs. Whether it's a 1L, or a 8L.
I don't know if this video is abit typical biast stuff that we find Oh so often on the Internet these days...but even as a Japanese car fan...these engines all sound really crap. Not nearly as nice as an American V8. I can honestly say if you think these sound better then there must be a big big fanboy influences on this video
They do sound better IMO especially that first one. Really smooth yet gutteral sound.
I am not biased, I could do the same about US V8, but the list would be endless.
All American V8's are cross plane V8's with unequal firing.
My dad used to own a Q45 sounded nice as hell on start ups and he drifted it in the winter which was fun.
Has Honda never made a v8 before??
when they do they won the f1 with fucking vtec kick in yooo
Smart Feller no
Smart Feller well they made one for F1
they make rice cooking 130hp civics for economy/first car teenager drivers, not performance v8s. Honda is a joke unless you're into motorcycles where they still aren't quite up to par with other manufacturers
getting 250-280 hp fwhp from stock engines with a moderate turbos setup is quite good. When done right hodas are no joke.
Uh that Volvo.. I NEED ONE
Bruh! 😂 Those V8 engines sound like some tractors 😂 The only one sounds good is the Volvo's. Not gonna lie
The Japanese V8's do have a very pleasing sound to them. It is different to some. But I think most of us can appreciate the beautiful sound any V8 can produce. I would say these are just more refreshing than anything as 90% of the V8's I am exposed to are USA made.
None of these engines beats an LS.
That Lexus LS400 sound a lot like a fox body 5.0 mustang IMO , nice sounding car!
damn i'm early
Hope those sounds are compared to a modern average American V8s (fords in particular), because nothing can beat a good ol' Big Block or a Hemi
the narration ffs stop
then why are you here?
I'm an American V8 guy and I love the sound. Not only do I like the sound and power they make, they also look pretty awesome under the hood. Even though I like the American V8s, I can also come to respect the other manufactures!
That's a very healthy approach. I love US V8s as well
jesus christ stop talking, we want the old format back
JESUS FUCKING CHRIST STOP BREATHING ALREADY
Man they do sound good! Good job Japan
Pls dude stop reading... ://
Just go away, please
3:25 noob driver holding the wheel ready to crash
Sounds all like trash
Joseph Bert Your opinion is your opinion however there must be some reasoning as to why these V8's sound like "trash"
His profile pic is a mustang. That's why.
Joseph Bert v8s sound like trash? Funny.
I own an old pushrod carberated Chevy 350 in a 37 truck. The technology is ancient but I can get parts from any chain store and outrun most new cars. Turning and braking well that's another story.
I actually like his voiceovers and would miss them, very nicely done :)
Small correction at 3:00 is that the later vvt-I models of the 1UZ-FE ARE actually interference engines (1998 and up)
You should've made "Average" in the title all caps. 3/5 sound like mini vans. The other 2 sound like early 2000's mustangs that were aimed at moms in a midlife crisis and wanted to escape the mini van.
The Volvo engine made by Yamaha... that explains why those engines are so amazing!!! Fast as fuck
I think that many of these V8s sound better than most floppy, flabby American V8s.
I realize this isn't meant to hate on American V-8s or anything. "Better than the average US one" is kinda nebulous though; it could include every V-8 on the road, meaning a lot of run down piles that haven't been rebuilt since the '70s and were low-compression sloths even then.
I take this video as more like, "5 Japanese V-8s that sound damn good and probably deserve more attention than they get from the average American V-8 enthusiast."
Btw ur english is getting so much better!
That first Lexus has fugly tips.
Sounding better? No chance in hell. Performing better? Debatable. Of course it's mostly an opinion, but a 390 FE or an Olds 455 with 2 3/4" dual pipes sound like deep, bellowing monsters that demand respect, and are respectively so. Not to mention they're ridiculously tough and simple...besides, even as a Ford guy, admittedly Cadillac is the king of V8's with their monstrous 500 CI stump puller packing over 520 Ft lb of torque N/A, grunting on the highway at 70 MPH.
i run a turboed 1uzfe..... and the sound is a delight when all others run bmw v8 and ls engines
When you talk about the Volvo V8 engine you are COMPLETELY WRONG! That is indeed the Taurus SHO engine. Ford took a V6 engine from the Modeo car that was sold in Europe in the '90's and added two cylinders to the middle. They then hired Yamaha to design [not build, just design...] the cylinder heads. This was the 234 hp Taurus SHO V8. Later, Ford-owned Volvo bored and stroked this engine design out to 4.4 liters, and that is the 60 degree V8 that Volvo sells to this day. It is a Ford based engine.
Liking the voice overs and subtitles. Keep up the good work!
The Volvo produces my favourite engine note. The BMW 4.4/8 comes really close. V8 + sport cats = love
