    AT LAST! Finally, a fairly simple project video with a parts list to get started with this lighting!! I've been waiting for a few years now. What's even cooler is that it appears that everything is currently in stock at Amazon!! Wooo hooo! I hope these are affiliate links for you, 'cause you deserve a commission! Can't wait to get started!! ~Frank

  • @danielducu
    @danielducu Před 2 lety

    Yeah, I’d go deeper with the explanation on the safety part. 300w can easily start a fire if no proper wire is used , no fuses , also, if your controller is further away from the strips (as in starting from 6-7ft away) you need a level shifter in there so that the data signal be clean Al the way. nice video but people can have real problems if they don’t follow some safety rules

    If the controller IS getting too hot what is the solution? I have had several boards fail and I can't figure out why but suspect it is heat. I have a 5v 2 amp phone charger and have a limiter set to between 850 to 1500 but it seems my ESP8266 are getting super hot.
    Maybe I need to get a real power supply and not the phone chargers.
    Any suggestions?
    It seems when I set the limiter too high is when the board ends up dying...but I have never set it higher than about 85% of the chargers power (I set it to about 1850mA once and it died 30 mins later).
    Very frustrated as I have been working on this for nearly a month and have gone through 5 ESP boards. (2 of them were DOA, 1 died quickly after, 2 worked awhile then died)

    Lovely been waiting for this video since my last comment in you’r last video,
    You’re doing good with the backlight for the videos !
    And for your website the top bar is hiding half of your channel banner if the website is built by another website it’s probably just them
    Also you could put a Amazon echo dot up above the cabinets and have a sensor when you come in the room they come on,
    Or maybe you can just have a IR motion sensor that is wired to a certain pin that can possibly get signals, well its an alternative?
    Edit:
    And annoyingly I cant do this to my house because its my family’s house since I’m a teenager at the moment,
    And at the moment we are currently trying to make our garden look like new
    by painting the fence and such and spending a lot of money on the house
    as the house we purchased was not completely built...
    so I’m basically watching this becoming more and more sad thinking about it because I cant do any smart things...
    But I do have smart things in my bedroom but not major stuff but there is not much to improve on really!
    Hmmmmmm...
    maybe keeping a straight smile that’s all I can think of looking at you talking..
    What else...
    Banana
    Yeah idk what else to write because I cant think of anything else ok I’ll stop now have a good day whoever is reading this and goodbye 👍👍✌🏻✌🏻

      I hope my video wasn't confusing. The power does not run through the esp microcontroller. The microcontroller shouldn't use even 1 amp.

    I am running a ws2815 5M strip on a MEAN WELL LRS-350-12v psu. Do you recommend front and end loading injection and if so, would 12v injection be overkill or should I use a step down converter to 5v at end? ty for your time.

    • @NickRains
      @NickRains  Před 2 lety +1

      If you’re using 12 volt lights and just the one strip, you should be fine as long as your power supply isn’t super far away from the strip. The important part is to try to keep your controller as close as possible to your strip (node mcu or D1 mini)
