- In Episode 41 Bugsy takes us fishing with yakkas on a Sydney ledge. Drifting the bait out under a float, searching for the elusive Longtail Tuna. Or maybe a Yellowtail Kingfish. But probably neither haha. Bonito keep following Bugsy around on his fishing adventures. Wherever he goes in NSW, there are the bonito. And Australian Salmon too. But when you can't beat them, join them. Enjoy the vid. Rockfishing is dangerous and not recommended. If you do fish from the rocks, make sure the conditions are safest and wear appropriate gear including light clothing, rock cleats (or other appropriate footwear) and a lifejacket.
We were catching a few Tailor and got one Bonito too up on the Mid North Coast last week. Highlight for me though, in what was a great little sesh, lots of bust ups and big bait balls. This guy hooked up to something really good. Anyway, in what for me, in my naivety, was a great show. Great display of fishing prowess from the guy. He landed a 10+ kilo Longie. Got a photo with him and his fish. Wow, what a morning. Those colours of the Longtail Tuna glinting in the sun, spectacular.😊
That's awesome Justin. Beautiful looking fish aren't they. It's just great being out there and experiencing it all. That's what it is all about for me
That's some cereal box Bonnies 😂
You know it! Hahaha
Chunky. Love the whistle when spotting fish
Haha ... got to let your mates know when the fish are on!
Finally!!! Been waiting for some more content mate
Great video as always!
Caught a few bonnies a few weeks back after you motivated me
Nice! Cheers mate
Nice bugsy. Would of awesome if you hooked up a long tail. Beautiful day though. 😊🎣👍
Thanks Gianni. They swam right past as I was unhooking the bonito. Should have had a rod rigged with a lure ready to go. Live and learn ... Yeah, I wasn't too fussed. It was an enjoyable session
Napaka Ganda Ng spot Dyan panalo 💪mabuhay Po keep fish on☕😎
Cheers mate. Yeah, beautiful spot!
Watching you all the way from Japan bro, sick sess! Hopefully that LT come next 🤙
Thanks bro! Enjoy your time over there. So much respect for Japan and its people. Amazing culture
Nice sesh mate! Big Bonnie's!
Big Bonnies! The sashimi was high quality. Hope you have been getting a few fish
Great video mate. Making me miss the rocks.
Thanks Rob. Looks like you've been getting some good fish up there. The Red Emperor and Coral Trout ... some of the best fish in the world!
@@bugsyfishing I can’t complain too much mate but as you know the rocks get in your blood.
@@robtaylorshotwater Tell me about it. Very addictive
It's ❤ vlog
👏From Libya
Thank you
Try the winter for big kings of the rocks bit of berly helps to.
Can't wait!
Life jackets?
Yes, I wear one of the inflatable types every session
Worst thing is sometimes fish don't take big jigs but only small ones but light line can't handle big fish
An interesting conundrum. Light line and big fish requires a lot of skill and patience and sometimes a little bit of luck helps too
Hey mate I really enjoyed the video thanks for posting. Relatively new to fishing and would love to try live baiting some yakkas. Just wanted to ask, what was that floating rig you were running? Cheers!
Hey Ollie, I had a monofilament leader tied with a FG knot to the braid. I slide the float onto that leader and tie a rubber band around the mono to stop the float from sliding onto the braid. You can adjust this to the required depth. Then I tie a swivel on and add about 1.5m of leader to a 8/0 or 9/0 hook. Get a strong live baiting hook. Mustad Hoodlums are reliable. That's it. Wherever the rubber band is tied is the point where the float will stop - that is your depth control. I usually put it at least 3m deep but depends on how deep the area you are fishing is. Good luck!
@@bugsyfishing Thank you so much for the detailed answer, I really appreciate it!
What bait jigs/sabiki are you using? I’m just getting into live bait and have found I only get yakkas if I bait up the jigs. One of my mates told me black magic makes a good sabiki that’s doesn’t need baited hooks
I was using a Sure Catch sabiki with pink flies. Japanese writing on the pack with a photo of two yakkas. Numbers are 6, 2.5 and 3.0. But I can't read the characters. It was working with no bait. Hope that helps
Where is the ledge u fish I fish twice a year and would like to give it a try
Sydney open ocean ledge mate. Super dangerous to fish if you only fish twice a year, I would recommend somewhere in the harbour
Just asking is it a rule in NSW to wear a life jacket while fishing of the rocks, u had one on put ur mate did not.cheers
Hi there, it is mandatory in some areas and not in others. I choose to wear one all the time when I am rock fishing regardless of if I am in an area where it is mandatory or not
That lad should be wearing spikes
He has the traditional style rock cleats bolted to the bottom of his shoes. They last longer and are more economical overall. Means you need to take two pairs of shoes though - one for the hike in and one for the fishing
Great session mate! btw what the beautiful place that is?
Thanks mate. Yeah, we are lucky to have such beautiful coastline right on the doorstep of Sydney
@@bugsyfishing yep, indeed, I live in Sydney. 😀 I mean where that amazing place is?
@@justperson6142 find ur own spots mate
what rod was your mate using?
I will have to ask him and get back to you Ryan
what yakka rig is that? its sick
The one for catching them or sending them out?
@@bugsyfishing catching
@@deadforrest3011 its a Sure Catch bait jig with pink flies. It has a photo of two yakkas on the pack and the writing is in Japanese so I can't read it. The numbers on it are 6, 2.5, 3.0. and UT-5
if you just open bail on the yakkas with a single hook they will smash it
Float or no float?
Any chance you do snapper fishing off the rocks?
Sometimes
@@bugsyfishing what is technique?
@@felixfelicis5574 depends on the area. Soft plastics, wash fishing unweighted pilchards, long distance casting. I don't do much of it
@@bugsyfishing ah I am trying to learn how to wash fish but don't know what is suitable areas for it and just not sure if I need burley
@@felixfelicis5574 burley is good sometimes but other times brings in fish you don't want. Trial and error is the way to learn and find new spots. Just got to put the time in, experiment and persist
