As mentioned in the video, this week I am restoring a part from the E30 that I have already restored. So I purchased this brake booster and master cylinder to show the process. This particular master cylinder would need serious internal work or replacing altogether. I purchased an internal seal kit but when I got in there, the second half of the assembly was well and truly stuck. So, I just got on with the aesthetic of it as I'm not actually using this on my E30. I will show the process of replacing the seals in my actual brake master cylinder in a future video.
Firstly I disassembled the booster and master cylinder. I then degreased everything before plugging any holes with Polydoh. Once sealed, I blasted them both to remove any paint and rust. With the pieces now mostly clean of rust and paint, I set about removing the rest with a rotary tool and wire wheel. I also filed a few nicks in the metal down. before etching priming and then high-build priming. I then sanded back the primer ready for base coat and lacquer. Whilst they dried, I cleaned the other small pieces with concentrated degreaser and elbow grease and trimmed the rubber hose's protection fabric.
Once they had dried it was time to reassemble. I purchased some new rubbers, o rings, and some air filter material. I placed the air filter in the gap and began added parts to the booster. Once assembled the restoration was complete.
Thanks for watching!

What brand of degreaser do You use?
Awesome
PUBG is better
just putting it out there😌
Restore It love the BMW videos
I love you Restore ❤
OMG, he buys junk that he doesn't need just to show us a repetition of the restoration process of the part he had already restored off camera .. Dedication level > 9000! Hat's off to you, Sir :)
Thank you Ghassan!!
I don't get this restoration in the first place. Dedication is there, but I don't understand why. You've spent so much time, and some money on materials, to cosmetically restore this brake booster, but you haven't replaced any of the internal parts that are likely to fail. A new unit is $300 and will be reliable. This unit may now look nice and shiny but may fail down the road. And boosters do fail, I can tell you from experience.
Actually, I just looked it up. A new Ate unit for a Porsche (probably the same for BMW) is $201 USD. It makes no sense economically or from a safety perspective to cosmetically restore an old booster instead of just buying a new one.
@@GarthGoldberg I was thinking the same thing. Like I get he likes to restore shit but it's kind of a waste of time. Who knows how long it will last. The diaphragms inside of those things are made out of rubber and with the outside of it looking that bad I can't imagine what the inside of it looked like
@@GarthGoldberg Read his description @00:20 at the bottom of the video, you'll find out that he has no plans on using this master cylinder for the very same reasons you mentioned.
You are absolutely right as a matter of fact that piece of junk that looks SOOOOOO good is actually DANGEROUS
Of all the channels to get a Fortnite sponsorship, I honestly wasn't expecting it to be this one. Still, you deserve it. :)
Thanks, Liam, appreciate it.
I'm still here and I'm still 100% with seeing this entire restoration to the end
Same here
remove the circlip on the back of the master cylinder then blow some compressed air through one hole with caution while covering the other holes with your fingers...the piston will slide out, be carefull, and then you can easily replace the rubber seals and inspect the bore inside...if it is pitted then trash it...try it... here the replacement rubber seals are very cheap. you can clean anything brake related with alcohol only and for assembly wet it with brake fluid...brake fluid is hygroscopic so when storing calipers and master cylinders if you dont seal all the holes, air with moisture will get in and it will rust out on the inside very quicly, it can seize up in a matter of months.....
edit: ok i just read the description now...sorry
Thank you for not adding any annoying music to these videos, and just keeping it simple.
Бог реставрации. Руки из правильного места растут. Молодца.

I was only thinking that you could do with a nice cloth to lay your work on to photograph. Keep up with the great content. Thumbs up from me for no crappy music. 👍
I kinda like the workbench look, but it would be great if he could maybe add some polish or something
Excited to finish the whole car😆👍👍👍 great work!

Haha thank you!
Sick videos btw, can't wait to see the E30 progress
Another good one! The text was the perfect length this time. Can't wait to see the car when its finished!
Great to see your process growing in quality!
Dedication to the cause, hats off to you.
maybe the best restoration video series ive ever seen keep it up
This is a very cool channel and is rapidly becoming one of my favorites. keep up the awesome work.
Thank you Jadedragon327! Lots more to come.
Wow, what a nice result! This could be your best one yet!
Another wonderful video...very therapeutic. I also really like the sounds (no music) in your videos. I read the description and know that you won't be using this booster/master cylinder but I would recommend that if you do, add a glob of good grease to the end of the pushrod prior to mounting the master cylinder on the booster...this will reduce wear but more noticeably, reduce the possibility of squeaking or creaking when pressing the brake pedal (ask me how I know...). I really like the paint/lacquer...seems to yield good results for projects like this. I live in the US so I'm not sure if I can get it here. I will have to look to see. Thanks again!
Thanks for the advice dewy I really appreciate it. I think Spraygunsdirect ship globally?
I totally agree with the therapeutic compliment of no music, fast motion, and light work sounds. Job well done (video and craftsmanship)!
More awesome content, & kudos on scoring the sponsor! The more money flowing your way, the easier it’ll be for you to complete the car, something I’m desperate to see.
Thank you John. Me to!
Another top notch video of a job well done, easily gets my 5 ☆ rating
Thank you as always Colin.
Finally , i saw what's happening inside blasting cabinet
Keep it up bro
This is amazing! Well done!
I think someone with Epic Games likes classic Beemers.
I love how this channel went from restoring stuff to restoring a full E30 lol that is amazing keep up the work i know that car is gonna look epic when finished.
Thanks Steve! It's a lot of work this project but it should be well worth it.
You’re a madman with the spray gun! I’m jealous!
Thankful for these videos. Hopefully i can apply them to the resto process of my Dolomite, and save on parts.
That master cylinder looks indestructible
Great attention to detail, better than new, well done.
To Restore It....I really love your restoration videos. Thank you for sharing and please upload more. Thanks.
Cheers Hunter, loads more to come. Get subbed to Restore It 2 for more. I will be documenting my move to spain.
@@RestoreIt ... Absolutely. I don't like subscribing to anybody and have done so for only a handful of up-loaders. Subscribed.
Love your dedication
Looks absolutely great! That quarts paint looks really good stuff.
Thanks, I highly recommend it.
Those technics... first time i see and wonderful
Thanks for video
Been subscribed since 5k it’s amazing how this channel grew in such a short time
Better than factory new! Killer job as always🍻.
Thank you Art!
there are two different things...if you ask a company to do such restaurations, nobody will do it, because too expensive and it makes no sense...but, if you do it by yourself and you are able to do it, perfect and you save money, as long as you dont count the hours...but who is counting hourse for a hobby? great work!!!
Tidy work. Well done.
I hope to see the e30 restored one day, good job buddy. keep up the good fine work!
Me to Jar, thank you.
Wanted to start an E30 rebuild of my own ... you and these videos really put things into perspective @.@ . Great work !
Every friday evening when I see notification bell I'm like awww yeeeea!

Gold hands bro, gold hands, and detail of Perlon that amazing, you are intelligent my friend.
That came out AWESOME!
Thanks Ronnie!
I absolutely love these videos
I have just finished my refurb on my mk1 servo wow takes longer than you think it. Good job on yours.
caraca!!!! é uma peça simples, mas com esse trabalho incrível ela ficou linda demais!!! Parabéns!!!!
Love the new cabinet
That's actually the old cabinet, I just got a new camera with a waterproof case and thought I'd give that a go instead of trying to film through the glass :)
I never thought I would think a brake booster looked so beautiful.
Awsome work, love watching this
Thanks Job.
Yeah another video. Nice work, nice video as always😍
Thank you Pharnando!
What a wonderful video!
Cara, você é muito caprichoso... Parabéns...
Just a little tip degreasers sometimes tend to leave a film behind so you may want to wash out the reservoir with very hot water and dry it out with compressed air. Brake fluid tends to not like other things mixed with it.
Man I love your videos!!
So relaxing
Thanks man, loads more to come :)
As if Fortnite needed advertising, it disgusting: I hate this game ... But the video is totally awesome! 😍
Agreed
A work of art...thank you
I have a feeling that you’re slowly restoring an E30. :)
I definitely am. Check out episode 1 if you missed it. I show the whole car.
paint finish look's amazing
Thank you Simon :)
Awesome job 👍 and then you go to bench bleed the master and get brake fluid all over that gorgeous paint.
Now you have 2 just in case one brakes on you.
Ahaaaa
I see what you did there
Not too bad ;) Great videos keep them coming.
very good work keep moving
Very good job 👏🏻
Looks brand new well done.
Thank you, Robert.
Yay I couldn't wait to get home to watch this :p this series is the walking dead of CZcams
Great job. E30, the best.
That is by far better than new. Good job
Thank you, Patrick!
Guessing the people complaining about the sponsorship have never restored a car. It's an insanely expensive process, the man needs some return for all his effort.
I do a lot of this type of work. I have found that the best way to clean tanks or reservoirs, like that brake fluid reservoir, is to fill then about a quarter of the way with gravel. Parking lot gravel is fine. Maybe mix in some sand. Add water and detergent. I use Simple Green here in the States but any good quality detergent works well. Stir it around until clean, then rinse thoroughly. It works great! It works exceptionally well with radiator tanks or washing fluid tanks that are made of that same semi-transparent opaque plastic. Cheers-
Cool cheers for this Greg!
you did some mighty fine work on the outside man!
now i know this is just a model and youve allready done your own.. but heres a tip:
Not touching the inside of that master cilinder can be dangerous.. brakefluid attracts water, and that massive pitting you can see on the reservoir ports was caused by rust(via water ofcourse). that pitting will also be on the inside where the cups are sitting, thats going to kill brake performance.
and that my fellow youtube commenters, is why your garage recommends to flush the brakefluid every 2 years. to prevent water from causing any damage :) no its not a scam
Fine piece of work . . . . . . Rog
It's going to be a beautiful car when it's done, I can tell. 😄
If you ever sell that beemer, it will be with a new car warranty! Excellent work as allways! :-)
Keep going, awesome job!=
Amazing job as always. The attention to detail, superb. Now, can you restore my marriage?
Bom trabalho, seu BMW vai ficar lindo
great video. I'm restoring my 1999 Honda Accord....well, I say restoring.....I took it to be washed by some Romanians down the road. It's a start!
love youre work. keep going
Wow great video and a very excellent restoration keep up the good work love those videos
Thank you Reynaldo!
@@RestoreIt let me know about the flash light when you can thank you very much.
Thank you I had the flu that's why I hadn't reply back
Amazing work!!
Thanks Kyle!
best ASMR ever
That poly dough is awesome
I also thought so!
Just out of curiosity, since the stuff said "reusable" couldn't you have soaked it in hot water again to remove it from the parts? Seems like it would be easier to remove when it's soft and pliable rather than all the digging and cutting you had to do while it was still molded.
Excellent project
Sandblasting was awesome! Thanks for not putting your ad right in the middle of your video.
Make more vids man!!!! Restore your bmw from begin till the end. In a 240hours video. I'll watch it man!!!
Working as hard and as fast as I can! Cheers!
@@RestoreIt love what you doing man. Keep going. Amazing job and vids
