We will be comparing the Piper Turbo Saratoga Vs Cherokee Six. In the world of aviation, few airplanes stand out like the Piper Cherokee Six and the Piper Turbo Saratoga. I picked these two airplanes because of their own uniqueness. The Cherokee Six can carry a good load but the Turbo Saratoga has shows off its performance when flying at higher altitudes.

In the 90s took a lance from Mo. To Philadelphia 6 hours 6 people full fuel round trip $600. Heavy hauler for sure. Wish i still had it. Today would go Saratoga
@@johnelliott4521 It’s a tough decision for me. Almost 1600lbs for the Six and over 500lbs less for the Turbo Saratoga. With full fuel, I can barely get away with 3 passengers on the Toga. But I love how I can take it up to 15k or higher and get the better performance of the turbo. But with 5-6 passengers I won’t get very far so I’d take the Six.
Hello Javier and Raul! IMO, the Saratoga is the better airplane. The taper wing is a huge improvement over the old hershey bar wing. I've had both, and wouldn't go back the hershey bar wing for anything. But, sadly, aviation fuel costs are becoming prohibitive of ANY kind of flying. Auto fuel prices have come down lately. Hopefully, that will trickle down to aviation fuel. Take care! Merry Christmas and have great New Year!
Hi buddy! I could not argue over the improvements of the Saratoga. But to say the Saratoga is the better airplane is a matter of personal preference. While the Saratoga has many improvements it is not necessarily better. That is the reason I still have both. Those improvements come at a cost of useful load. The Cherokee Six has 454lbs greater useful load than the Saratoga. So for me, the Cherokee Six is better when heavier weight is more important than performance. Traveling with a family of 4 or more a Cherokee Six would be the better choice. But when performance is the priority over weight then I would take the Turbo Saratoga over the Cherokee Six. I have both because I have a use for both. But at this point, weight is still more important for me than performance. If I were to get rid of one at this point in time it would have to be the Turbo Saratoga because I could not use it for my family travels. The Cherokee is also the better option for shorter commutes. For short commutes you would not benefit much from the performance but the cost of use would be significantly higher with the Turbo Saratoga than the Six. So it really depends on individual needs. I like them both for what they can do my friend! Happy New Year my friend 😀

Hola Raul! Long time follower and just wanted to say you helped inspire our young family of three to become new owners of a '67 6 260. We're east of the Mississippi so it should meet most every mission we can think of in the near term. I'd been keen on the mid-body Monney M20F and M20Js for a couple years, but a local contact connected us to a relatively great value Cherokee Six. More dollars up front (+ a loan), but the insurance is thousands cheaper, the company is still in business, and we'll never have to worry about payload. It's been great to see your business savvy and I really hope to find something of passion outside of the military career. Subscribed for the great flying videos and entrepreneurial spirit - maybe that helps me figure out what I can do in parallel now or after I 'retire' in a few years.
Hi Justin, congratulations 🍾🎉🎈 my friend on your great find. I love the M20s and I actually was looking at some prior to finding my Cherokee six. I do not regret that decision. It’s much slower, but I can pack a load and enjoyed the heck out of that airplane for over a decade. Use it for family trips and to pack gear on business trips. I used it a lot for family adventures and to fix up rental properties and many other things. Speaking of entrepreneurship, you can connect that Six with just about everything you want to do in business. From meetings, to buying equipment, dropping off products, heck, I’ve even delivered burritos 🌯 to nearby places 😀. I’m so glad for you and I know you are going to enjoy your new family ride.

11:15 thing is- they hung that Giant IO-540 way out ahead of the cabin in order to make a longer rear cabin. The baggage compartment was just a happy accident. And convenient sound deadening. Really is a wonderful plane.
If i could, I’d put a Saratoga on a Cherokee 6 and get the performance in a fixed gear / high payload plane. But we can always dream 😂😂🎉 and I found that with my Saratoga , the gear was a 20kt difference up or down. But a Cherokee 6 fixed gear wasn’t all that much slower than mine retracted in flight
@@Electrocycle300 I like taking the Turbo Saratoga between 11,000 - 15,000 feet. At those altitudes it shows a significant difference between the normally aspirated Six. Now if you were lucky to get your hands on a good Cherokee Six with the old RayJay turbo normalizer then you’d get very close to your dream performance and keeping the payload. Too bad they stopped making them or I would have gotten my hands on one of them. 😀
I did the last of my commercial training and flight check in a 1977 Lance 40 years ago.

Used the 6, Lance or Saratoga for my family holidays
They are all good platforms and I like the 6 and Saratoga a lot. I’m sure you have noticed the handling difference between the Hershey wing vs the tapered wing. Not to mention, how the tapered wing glides with the gear retracted. But I prefer to use the 6 for family holidays because I’d have to compromise too much fuel on the Saratoga. But on lighter missions I love flying the turbo Saratoga between 14 - 17 feet. I set the climb at 800 feet per minute, set it at 65% power and cruise along. Definitely all good options! 😀

Fellow Lance owner here. I always flirt with 182’s but have too much into my Lance to change now. I wish I had turbo but I’ll stick to winter and esrly spring or late fall to fly out at the higher elevations!
The turbo Saratoga and the tapered wings make a huge difference in speed and handling. I have lots of time in 172's and 182's but I always prefer the low wings for longer Cross Country Flying. For local pleasure I'd fly the high wings. But, like every plane, they all have their pros and cons 😀

Former Cessna 182 and 206 owner here. The Saratoga is my next plane.
Your son needs a booster seat and I need T tops. We cut the foam down on my seat so I am not hitting my head, I can’t even wear the headsets on top of my head in my Arrow.
About January 10, Big Sandy is gunna get the white stuff that no one knows how to drive in. Mid to late January will see cold weather.
The seats in the Saratoga and Cherokee Six do seem to be low but that is also due to a combination of the longer nose and higher panel 😀 We spent Christmas in KY and got a bit of it here and there. But now back in Colorado to a snow covered yard and more on the way possible tomorrow, Sat, Sun, Mon, Wed, Thu. I love the weather in Colorado because of the drastic changes. A few years ago in September, it went from a record high 96 to snowing in the 30s the next day. I couldn’t believe it even seeing it 😀. The only problem I have with being back on the east coast is the uncomfortable nature of the constant humidity. As for drivers, I’ve witnessed two types of dangerous drivers. The ones that are panicked and the ones that are over confident. Pretty much the same dangerous behavior in flying. 😀
We have several weeks of exciting weather ahead, both Colorado and MidWest. Watch out January 7 or so intermountain west for big wind and snow.
@@DWBurns Colorado is always pretty exciting. But the most exciting in terms of snow are March and April. On the other side of the divide, however, it’s a different story. It snows in ski country about every other day up until June. Too wild for me 😀
Hey Raul! Great Video! I'm closing an 84 Saratoga Turbo Retract just a couple of airframes off of yours. I sold my 1968 Cherokee 235 back in September. I'm excited to get the Saratoga! I noticed that you have your Saratoga Turbo up for sale... have you decided to move to KY permanently? I would imagine if so, you probably don't need the Turbo so much... My 15 YO son likes to fly with me - flying is an incredible way to connect with your kids! Looks like you and Javier have become quite the team!!!! Happy New Year!!
Hi Nick! Congratulations on your new purchase my friend. The Turbo Saratoga is a great airplane and I enjoyed my time in it. Just always impressive climbing into the upper teens as fast as the Turbo Saratoga does. Still in between KY and CO but just preparing for the future. I really enjoy your videos ! Funny but it feels like I’m right there with you in the cockpit. At a young age I helped my Dad, painting some planes. Mostly piper planes and fell in love with them. My favorite one we painted was a 1960 Comanche, orange, black and white. Beautiful plane. Still flying today.

15:10 Lol. Reminds me of the time when I told my dad I was interested in flying. He was a CFI, still is but doesn't practice. He gave me this thick book it must have been 4" or more and said start studying, read up. If you were to do it over again would you choose those two airplanes?
Thanks for the comment 😀 I can’t stress enough how important it is to always learn as much as possible when taking the controls as Pilot in command. Absolutely; the Cherokee Six was is a great cost effective and capable airplane for business and to move my family around. I had looked and searched for multiple options and the Cherokee Six was my clear option. Later, when I was ready for a step up for my constant commuting from Colorado to Kentucky the Turbo Saratoga quickly become my top choice. No regrets at all 😀
Forget the instrument panel, you need some Lightspeeds or Bose!
No thanks! I've used them and not convinced they are worth that amount of money. One of the two headphones I like to use I've had since 1998 and they are still kicking. Not only that, I love the sound quality way much more than those digital ones. But my friend, you are more than welcome to give them your hard earned money! 😀
I really want a retract like a Saratoga or a Centurion, but I’m going to end up with a Cherokee 6 because of insurance.
I totally understand. That's part of the reason why I also initially decided for the Cherokee Six. I decision that turned out to be a positive for me. After, the instrument, over 1k hours, and some retract time, I went with the Turbo Saratoga Retract for just a little more on the insurance. But the Six served us very well 😀

Only reason not to have retractable gear is the insurance, it doubles.
It certainly could but not always the case. There are several variables insurance companies go with. Mine, for example is not much more than my fixed. And what makes it just a little more is my hull value.
