There’s really no joy in suffering for your art. It should make you happy at the end of the day
Nice talk man
@Desmond Tresfaye if you get feedback you'll improve way quicker tho
Bon Iver had a great quote about this. He said “I love music so much and I could make it every day, but music isn’t all that I am”. Sometimes you have to remember that you are more than just a musician. You are probably a friend, brother, a sister, a son, a daughter, maybe you’re a social being, or maybe you’re not. But it is important not to over identify as a musician because your life and your happiness are ultimately more important than your music career
Gotta stay aligned! 🧘🏻♂🍵👁☀🌳🙏🏻✌🏼
This is the reminder that my need to readjust aspects of my life to be able to create without life distracting me is a good habit.
This is still one of the best advice you could possibly find as a music producer
Completely true. I'm heavily into music production just like you with the goal to reach somewhere, to reach the goal of making music and making a living from it. I know exactly it's not easy and it won't happen tomorrow, simple example... I've started beatmaking at the age of 12 in 2008 and until today I am still nowhere, between I have my job which is not a 9 to 5 but different shifts like sometimes morning sometimes late "i'm a waiter in a disfunctional restaurant" and before I loved making beats, now I'm mentally concentrated on experimental music but fusing it with beats and electronic and a touch of Lo-Fi, I have like concepts not ideas in my head but I wont put them out because there's a block in my mind. Work, stress, unbalanced time, tiredness plus on my days off I spend time on youtube watching reviews if different sh*t instead of dedicatin couple of hours to be productive and try to put that beat out, then faebook and instagram comes into the game too... It's like having the brain inside a washing maschine that wont stop and it's a gaddamn loop everyday. #Decap always knew you put the pure truth out there you just confirmed me that pushing yourself over the limit (so to unbalanced life and work to a goal) without giving yourself some mental freedom and space to take a deep breath takes you only to one thing "burnout" had 3 or 4 already and sh*t is heavy feels like wont get out of it, but still not giving up keeping soul with a dash of hope and working on giving my mind some peace where actually it can come with clear ideas and bright imagination. Thank you and respect Decap...
Oh man, so much of your story resonates in me. I started out playing bass with my college classmates and after three years playing in a fast melodic punk band. After that I immersed myself in electronic music, as a DJ in a club that we created in our city. But all the time that I remember, I had this struggle with focusing on one goal and not spreading to a bunch of other unnecessary things happening around. From school, where it's just cartoons and games, to now, when it's a bunch of youtube and instagram hours. And you rightly said that it is like a block, it is like a rope called “mind” that wraps around your arms behind your back. From the very beginning I didn't have many opportunities, but it was easier to do stuff, now it's the other way around, and I feel that the more I grow, the less I have a chance to dive into many of the concepts that I noticed to implement once-something. There's any piece of music production done by myself ever, and I believe if this continues into a more mature age, there's no way for me to be mentally healthy or just to don't end up with this life
Sorry if it's hard to read, I'm not native.
If you would like to discuss any stuff, I could knock in to your inst that you leaved in your yt account
Great video, man and timely for me 👍
I was living like this up until last month, distractions everywhere. Answering to WhatsApp, Twitter, Instagram and Facebook; to things that didn’t align with my goals for the day.
1.) Now when I’m home, my iPhone is set to ‘do not disturb’
2.) I do the whole email social interaction thing when I’m on my exercise bike in the morning for 1hour
Progress is happening.
This makes me feel better about my work ethic
way to put it in perspective, thank you!
Solid advice man. The dopamine addiction to our phones is real. There’s real power in being aware and deliberate in your actions.
I needed to hear this but sometimes I feel like if I take a day off from cooking up I feel like I’m wasting time been thinking like this for 10 months now but I def needed this for sure💪🏽
also russ book hints at this with the russ lens obs. dude ahh love ur content my man!!
dude i love you decap, i feel like all the producers circles i go in and talk this mindset i’m seen as a weirdo or just ignored. the mindset>the grind is so true thanks G 🙏🏽
Thank you so much for sharing the ideas of Robert Fritz. Such a good framing for all the challenges in creating your own stuff. Never met an author with this clarity about it!
Check out the Freedom app. It shuts off your internet/apps while you're working
Really awesome thanks
This is some great advice! I use my computer ONLY for music, so when I sit down to produce, there is nothing to distract me.
Love your stuff!!!
Great to hear this!!!
I love the real fact and the informative knowledge you provide
Love this

Alot of people need to hear this.....
Moving from my home for the first time to other continent to reach my dream, kinda scary to do it but yeah
Hi Dicap. Thank you for the topic. I agree with the ideas you been sharing here.
In fact I'm into the self-development by myself for years... What I wanted to add on this very important topic, is about the structuring the Hierarchy of the goals and daily actions, you mentioned. The tool which helped me a lot excluding all the junk habits or even noticing ones, which I did automatically, is the "Eisenhower Matrix" (those who read this and don't know what it is, just google the name, then follow explanation how to draw and use it).
To me personally, it is very easy to use for balancing each aspect of life: health, relationship, creativity, business etc.
Dicap, I'm sure you know this tool, and maybe it will help someone in your community. :)
Blessings from Lithuania.
Thank you, going to look into this!
@@decapmusic Most welcome :) I hope it will be useful tool for you.

First View, First Comment!
Sometimes when its hard to finish a beat, i will let it rest a day or 2. The next time i get to it most times everything falls in place in ways i could have NEVER imagined!
For my concentration i play old school 8 bit and 16 bit vertical shooters. Try it out and you'll know what i mean lol
you just distracted me from practicing guitar...
jk, how to upvote twice?

Work smarter, not harder
Too much work equal unbalance.... point period blank. I’ve seen many miserable people in many different professions who are unbalance. As a result they hate their life. Sad but true.
man maybe you should look after yourself before starting to teach people how to do so...
Lmao what do you mean? 😂 this is Decap
