Going off of current form it looks like the next decade of football will mostly be Barça, Real Madrid, Leverkusen, PSG, Arsenal, Tottenham, Girona, Inter, Milan and Juventus doing well. I don’t mention teams like City, Liverpool or Atletico because their key players are getting old and 2 of those clubs will be experiencing massive managerial and internal changes.

Araujo wasn't ELITE at the beginning. In fact many would say that he was really bad at distributing ball back then. He developed it under Xavi and he became somewhat of a decent passer just last season.

just some correction. On 2008/2009 Abidal mainly a starter on left back position. He plays several times on CB position, but he was not the main backup for Puyol. Puyol's main backup was Gabriel Milito, who ironically injured more often than Puyol (at the time). Abidal was starting left back, with Sylvinho as backup plus Martin Caceres who can play both as right or left back.
Nevertheless, the argument still stands, it was a solid backline, with Dani Alves at the peak of his career.
This year, yes Cubarsi is great.. but do also note that the number of goal conceded by the team was when Ter Stegen is injured. Inaki Pena is good, but he is no Ter Stegen. At the same time the starting defenders took turn getting injured, and you are correct about the pivot position being the team's weakness.
I the last 2 months, while it is great to see Cubarsi blossoms and Christensen can fill the pivot role well (defensively), don't overlook Ter Stegen's contribution. The team's solidity in defense has returned at the same time as Ter Stegen's return. That is not a coincidence.

It's just wrong to enter Abidal in this equation. It wasn't until 2010-2011 that Abi was playing significant minutes at centreback. Yaya Touré played more minutes in central defence than Abidal in 2008-2009. The overall point still stands, but with a bit more research you would have realized that Martín Cáceres was Pep's fourth choice centreback in 2008-2009. Well, fifth choice behind Yaya by the time they had reached the Champions League final. Abi played almost exclusively at left-back in his first three seasons at Barça.

Mm Marquez was world class in his prime as well, but didn’t have the aerial presence Pique had due to his height

Great video! However. I do think Marquez and Puyol complimented each other more. Cubarsi resembles Rafa a bit more but idk he’s only played a few games.

Idk man since u can no longer touch anybody defenders have it rough everybody is falling over just by gust of wind idk its just my opinion but i hate the fact that rarerly theres defending like puyol, nesta, maldini and many other greats that agresive defending since everyone is just falling over spenging more time complaing to the ref just to get the other player cards i miss the good old days of football

Bro this guy understood my theory on how barca risen and fell the pique needed Puyol and mascherano and In every transfer window that barca had after 15 I was always frustrated, cause they don't sign good enough defenders instead sign bankrupting players like Coutinho ,dembele, griezman I wonder how many hundreds of million has barca put just in these three.

I’ve never seen CB as good as Cubarsi at age of 17. Even Maldini, because he started his career as LB. We are witnessing something history of football never seen before. It is easy to be amazing winger at age of 17, but as CB it was not done and propbably possible. We are not putting pressure on kid, but he is not letting us to have other choise - he is the best CB is Barca already and in my opinion second best in Europe, just behind Bastoni.

It's weird to say that cubarsi is probably the best young defender in europe right now but that's a fact, he's literally pocketing in-form strikers with great records and it's so funny to see, still going back to watch the napoli vs barca second leg, that match was insane lol, cubarsi and araujo were the best duo that match, barca can make an amazing future for him only if they make him play just enough so he doesn't injure himself, as shameless as it sounds he's someone we need right now for the future of barca

The wonderkids: Cubarsi, Lamine, Pedri, Balde, Gavi, Fermin, paired with a mature de jong, araujo and the veterans gundogan, ter stegen, seems like a promising future. But in this times of economic struggle if we don't get to fill the rest of positions properly we'll be stuck in rounds of 16 or even group phase in the champions league. Levandowski is not performing and Vitor Roque doesn't really impress anyone.
We desperately need a pivot and top class strikers

Madrid this year is like a fool running on luck. 2 times athletico madrid destroyed them. It showed you need a solid team plan to dismantle them just like that. This year they haven't faced any strong team. Only athletico and barca, even napoli after manager change wasn't a strong team. What's been saving their ass is var look at Almeria match and rb leipzig it just shows how much VAR and refereeing calls in their favour. Let's see how theyll do in quarter final stages since the ro16 second leg is thier home match and it's like they've passed through it😂

You are wrong… in the Champions league final 2008-09, the defense of Barcelona was Abidal, Puyol, Piqué and Sylvinho…. Márquez was a central back not a right or left back…
