    I wish I'd seen your videos prior to my surgery...they are excellent and describe the recovery process well. I had an L4-5 diskectomy July 2nd, came home to no help with recovery, and just slogged through. It wasn't pretty, but I'm doing better than I have in years. The Physical Therapy began August 6th and I go 2 x per week and work hard, building up what I've lost over 15 years post-injury (mine happened at a dog show) of compensating for increasing weakness and pain on the right side, etc. I'm really excited to be progressing and slowly being able to do things I haven't done in years...and as you said, upon awaking from anesthesia...that horrific sciatic pain was GONE. Onwards and upwards and thank you for your video series, I've enjoyed it!

    Hi Ann... Thank you for your videos...im on day 9 from a laminectomy on L2,L3 and L 4 and he did some other stuff on the right side, im walking every day. I have massive bruising around my tailbone. I feel like today is my best so far...the Lord Jesus blessed me with the best caretakers ever..my husband and 2 sons, they are fighting to see who can do the most for me lol, and they get upset if they see me do something for myself ,but its necessary that i start doing things for myself.....the pain in my butt is horrible.
    In the last few yrs I've had a total hip replacement and a total knee replacement all on the same right side but the recovery process has been the most painful wirh back surgery..i have a good attitude because of the Lord, but im just exhausted from all these surgeries,so tired of being in pain... anyway,i pray that you are no longer in pain and the surgery has helped you live a better life..

    I just had this surgery done a few days ago, went for my first short walk outside just for some fresh air...walking definitely helps. I think the mental aspect of healing is going to be harder for me than physically recovering, I'm used to being an extremely active person in the gym, with my toddler, etc. Hoping I can get back to normal asap and the numbness will slowly go away in my calf/foot/big toe.

      Ruby- I’m getting a laminectomy in 2 weeks. I have a couple questions- where are you at now with your recovery? Did you do anything special pre-op to get ready ? Where were you at 2 weeks after surgery- could you walk an hour? No cane? No raised toilet ?
      I’m hoping to attend an event about 2 and a half weeks after surgery that requires me to stand for 3-4 hours. Thoughts?
      Thanks

      @gibby35412 my symptoms were 3.5 years old. Before the surgery, the pressure on the nerve resulted in constant pain shooting all the way down to my feet. Physical therapy provided relief for a few days, but later worsened my condition.
      The surgery certainly relieved the pain. I am not 100% relieved as there are good and bad days, but the pain is mainly limited to hamstring.
      I am working on my rehab with a therapist.

    Hello Anne, I have had my surgery, and as I write this, I am on day 6. I have numbness in the soles of my feet, toes, and the back of my legs which is affecting my sleep and is also stressing me a bit as I am thinking the surgery has failed, but the surgeon has said that this is normal due to the nerve being compressed and also with him moving the nerve. You mentioned that you had numbness. How long did this last for and has it disappeared, or are you still having this issue?

    • @anneblackwell844
      @anneblackwell844  Před 3 lety +1

      Hi. I flipped out also due to same issues 2 days after. I had numbness in calf, top of foot and big toe. It gets better. Slowly. That’s why I used the cane I was so numb. It took 2-3 weeks before I could walk without numbness making me unsteady. Walking. It is what saved me

    • @anneblackwell844
      @anneblackwell844  Před 3 lety +6

      There is a place on my calf I can’t feel. I notice it when I shave my legs. Other than that I am good. If I overdo it, my toe goes numb. But that hasn’t happened in a very long time. Again this is a slow heal. Walk. Don’t push going back to work. Get a standing desk if you have a desk job. Give yourself grace.

    • @stephenbrotherton4
      @stephenbrotherton4 Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you for your reply. You are right it does get better, but each day is different. The other day I had no numbness, and today just a little on the balls of my feet and big toes. I also had my first good sleep last night without tramadol, which is a result. As you said, this is a slow healing process, and I am glad I had this surgery.

      @@jstenn3843 Hi, I am 4 months in, and I still have a bit of numbness in the soles of my feet; however, over the last two weeks, I have noticed the numbness starting to reduce. I would say it is getting better, and I am now getting better sleep. I have also begun to cover longer distances when walking, but when I push it too much, this can flare up the numbness and pain, so I have now learned to take it easy and not push it too much. My doctor said it could take up to a year for the nerve to heal, and I am noticing the change. Do not feel down if you are still going through pain. Just give it time. The nerve needs time to heal walking and stretching is the key. Don't be sitting around doing anything; I felt this made things worse. If you have any further questions, then feel free to ask.

      I am working out with personal trainer to prevent bad form and reinjury. I am 100%. That took a year. This is a year healing process. Don’t let anyone fool you. I still have an area in my calf that is numb. I only notice it when I shave my legs. I squat like a catcher to pick things up and do not bend. Try not to bend. Take things very slow. Do not rush. Walk as much as you can and rest.
