@@thatonebirtyd5058 disagree. Arsenal had a great pre season last year and very nearly won the league apart from bottling at the very end. Chelsea had an awful pre season last year then had a terrible season. Pre season matters more in the modern game as preseason games are much more competitive. Look at the levels the PL summer series games were played at. I think Chelsea will have a good season

Don't think there's a chance Tonali flops this season, he's an absolute gem. The only reason Italians have "underperformed" in the past is because top Italian players never really joined the PL in the past. Tonali is an outstanding addition and possibly signing of the window for only £52m.
Can only go off watching him against Villa so can’t jump to conclusions but he was appalling. Got bullied in midfield, so I’d imagine there will be serious question marks over whether he can hack the physicality if he has a few games like that at the start of the season

There’s plenty of other midfielders like that in the Prem. The Villa players fitness levels will have been the same as his…he’ll face that issue most weeks unless he significantly bulks up

Physicality definitely isn't a weakness in his game so I don't know where you've got that from! Last season he won a higher percentage of duels than any of our current midfielders.

Tonali won’t flop but he will need a period of adjustment. The guy was a fan favourite at Milan for a reason, called a hybrid of Gattuso and Pirlo. I’d be amazed if he didn’t do well.

The 99 team will always be remembered for the treble though and also to win a treble with that amount of academy players in the team is seriously impressive. How can you say Kovacic as most disappointing player, but when someone says Havertz, then he can't be mentioned because there's no expectations on him? Kovacic was cheaper, everyone is aware he can't do what Gundo did and I'm not even sure he'll be starting most matches.
As a Man City fan, my expectation is that Kovacic will be in and out of the team and deliver solid performances when played. I'm not expecting huge output nor huge moments from him. Unless his season is like Phillips' last season, I don't see how Kovacic can underperform.

Tonali got absolutely fucking BODIED by Emi Buendia who is like 5'6. Buendia put him on the floor and ran on to assist Watkins (who was now being played onside by Tonali after he sprinted to get back)
He didn't have any redeeming moments in the match at all, but I still think he could have a brilliant season with the right players around him.
To be honest, pretty much every signing we've made outside the back 5 has taken quite awhile to get up and running so whilst he wasn't great over in the US I don't doubt he'll be quality sooner or later.
I agree he looked average vs villa and chelsea but was great against rangers, just needs to get up to speed with the quicker pace of the prem, the italian league is very slow paced
