I once saw an interview during lockdown where Ranbir acknowledged how privileged he is and it is unfair to compare his lockdown life to a financially struggling common man and he respectfully chose not to answer. On other hand there were numerous interviews by celebrities where they talked about how tough it was for them to sit at home during the same time. At least he wasn't pretentious and accepted his privilege unlike others.

It depends on what their struggle is. You can be in a small one bed or a mansion but if the struggle is your mental health then no amount of money is going to make it better, more comfortable yes but it will still be a struggle for them.
If the struggle is that they can't jump on their private plane in lockdown and go to Paris then they need to re-evaluate their existence.

Shahrukh Khan has often said how he enjoys his stardom to the fullest and would NOT have it any other way. Does he miss having some private time eating street food? NO. Does he miss not being hounded by fans wherever he goes? NO. Does he miss not being able to peacefully run errands like regular people? NO. He whole-heartedly accepts that he is a superstar and that not everybody has to relate to him or his lifestyle. He worked his a** off for this lifestyle and so he's proud of it. I've never for once found this to be arrogant. In fact, he exudes confidence, honesty, and respect. This is what makes him so much better than the rest: he doesn’t pretend to be something he is not and works towards what truly matters, i.e., his craft. If you've noticed, he plays relatable characters in almost every movie and plays them so damn well. THAT is what's truly important. If you're an actor, please ACT. Because you're being paid to act on screen, not in real life.

Why would I _not_ buy that designer gown that I could easily afford with my own hard earned money? We earn _because_ we want to spend, because we want that lifestyle. So, why shy away from admitting that we're enjoying it? SRK just unapologetically reaps the benefits of his hard work and I think that's something about him which is truly relatable.

Ranbir Kapoor, vicky kaushal, Siddharth Malhotra, are some of the rare actor how've proven their merits & yet are genuinely very humble & grounded, ranveer singh comes across as flamboyant & obnoxious in his media appearance but when it comes to mastery over his arts & versatility as an actor, the guy has nailed it to the teeth.

Ranveer Singh is also humble. It just people associate being humble means staying quite and not standing out. But personality can differ.
Except for his eccentric choice of clothing I hv never heard him being bad person or arrogant .
He enjoys his life and why shouldn't he be? Everyone is working for their comfort and to do the things they like.

To me, they're just people. They can live simply, lavishly or be thoughtful of spending their money anyway. Like, in my opinion, they are just overcriticized most of the time for their celebrity status. Some may fake it surely. For some reason people can't bear the thought that celebrities can act like normal people too because they are. The only thing that makes them and us different is their fame and that's it🤷‍♂️.

It's not restrictive to just fame but the upbringing and circles you are accustomed to. Not everyone can be true about that and can be all a part of PR but what if they genuinely enjoy those things that they do rather than acting? There can be people who grow in a wealthy household bur lead a simpler lifestyle. I'm pretty sure a lot of people in the South Asian region do that. They spend well but do not go overboard. They are very wary about their spending which some might call them kanjoos for but, it's just them🤷‍♂️.

Thats what attracts the audience towards you.
Bollywood celebrities were very late in realising this. While Stars in the southern industry were successful in maintaining the love of their fans because most of them realise the importance of the above mentioned attributes. Akshay Khanna is one example who despite of being son of Superstar has stood apart as shining star because he has immense talent, skill and a very good quality of minding his own business.

Alternate opinion alert: Speaking specifically to Sara Ali Khan's example, I don't find it surprising that she is a miser or doesn't own designer labels. If you look at her formative years and her family story (raised by a single mother, volatile income, instability with Amrita Singh restarting her career and Saif Ali Khan just about re-establishing himself), it is not surprising that she is frugal! You see the response Jahnvi Kapoor gave "Rs6000 - bade paise bachaa liye" and there lies the difference in background and experiences. And for people who wear designer clothes day in day out and have it at their disposal whenever required, why would you want to own one? So we need to have a little open mind that not everything is put on. Palak Tiwari - similar background. If you hear stories that Dimple Kapadia and Twinkle Khanna have shared about how life was as a single mother, the income troubles and the compromises etc - you'd know that these ladies have a common thread and hence speak similarly - Ananya Pandey, Jahnvi Kapoor do not talk about 'not owning designer labels' or being so frugal. Ok, end of rant :) Hope that made sense!

    • @ap9212
      @ap9212 Před 10 měsíci +29

It’s absolutely not necessary to mention that you don’t own designer clothes. She might not own some but she has never said she cannot afford it. She have had spent crores on just her Ivy League education. She comes from influential families on the both side. I won’t discount they might have had cash flow troubles growing up but it doesn’t suddenly make her families fortunes go away. The social safety net they possess alone is far more valuable than any regular indian could ever dream to possess. She might really behave like a regular chic in real life and very down to earth nice girl. But that’s the bare minimum that doesn’t make her special. Her trying to play that part as if she is not like her contemporaries is futile. The point isn’t if she is a miser who doesn’t wear designer brands the point is that she is overplaying her relatability when we very well know how privileged she is.

It might be an act too but still it doesn't make her fake. Proof is KWK episode of Janvi and Sara. They both went on a trip that means it's a personal trip and would someone put up an act even on personal trips? Did she calculated her moves that if she try to save 6000/- on the trip Janvi who's also her competitor would tell it in the TV? Also Karan's behavior towards her totally depicts that Sara doesn't quite fit with them. Karan only targets and make fun of such people. Her not owning a designer item isn’t something commendable that her acting skills and her performance should be overlooked.
Besides what does she gain by saying “Oh I don’t have designer clothes cause I am so regular.” Besides some brownie points from media and general public. It’s not like she believes nobody should buy them because she actively advertise designers. yes and its true. Look at some of the most successful people in all walks of life, they work both hard and smart and they dont like resting. its part of their personality. if you are high on conscientiousness and openness and low in neuroticism, you will keep working. people who score high in these traits, dont procrastinate, passionate and they finish the work they started. success is just by product.

Love this video. I completely agree that artistes should focus on their craft, in this case, movies/ web series that they work on, but perhaps mediocre film stars earn more as influencers than film stars that’s why they curate their personalities where the influencer gigs are successful. As viewers it’s upon us to make that decision whether we’ll accept a particular artiste as a film artist or as an influencer.

It is only money that matters, also someone like Akshay Kumar (and I am his biggest fan since I am a kid) promoting Ghutka, but in real life he keeps saying he doesn't understand why today's youth has to go with artificial protein powders, etc.

That’s a good point of discussion! Social media has given easy access for both the actors and the audience to reach out to each other and in the desire to get more fans a few actors do seem to try expanding their reach by creating social media personas. I believe we need more role models or inspirations away from actors and sportsmen. An actor’s job is to play out a character and tell us a story. We make them stars and put them up on a pedestal. Here actors like Pankaj Tripathi, Ranbir, Rajkumar, Sai Pallavi, Fahad, Dhanush, and the like are admirable and take it as a job and stick to it doing it so well. Essentially as fans, we like them for their work and honesty in the craft and it shouldn’t be otherwise.

Sara once visited Assam for some shoot. After the shoot she went to the Kamakhya temple with her friend, there were no cameras. She was behaving like any other normal girl, no drama, no showoff, no attitude. She was wearing a simple white salwar kameez and roaming around unlike otehr actor's who visit the same place with media and with their starry tantrums. Also, one cannot be taught so much that they'll know about the names of gali nukkar's of small cities and get excited while explaining about those places. Your public image cannot save you if u are doing bad work consistently But if your work is phenomenal then you will be appreciated without any image building.
But the funny part is nowadays movies and shows are not the major segments of entertainment but celebrity interviews, their appearances and promotions in TV shows and the related drama has become the main part of our day-to-day entertainment by sitting at home in our lazy time😄

    Damn good video 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Think you nailed it when you said we shouldn't be looking for the truth from celebs who are paid to perform in fictional roles! Love that line, Anmol 🙌🏼
I actively keep away as much as possible with their off screen PR as i see that as a distraction, & it goes against my experience when i try to invest into who they're playing on screen when I've taken time out to go to the cinema, paid for a ticket, to see a directors vision unfold.
We can either fully endorse good cinema, or be celeb obsessed, feeding into their egos and quite possibly discouraging them to do better on screen - afterall, why would an actor try to make an effort when they're getting enough clout off screen, amass followers, endorsements etc?
Plus, the bigger question is, why do WE not see how we're actually making these celebs compelled to constantly engage with us, as they're also seeking our approval and validation - a dopamine hit of attention, the need to be like, "hey, you me, same same".
We get a dopamine hit by getting the attention or a like or RT from a celeb, they get the dopamine hit from the attention we give - it's then no longer about CINEMA - the very reason they joined the industry to begin with.
That said, we have seen many actors not grow all that much, who have made a career despite giving mediocre performances, so there's no real reason for them to give anymore than what they're giving already.
Afterall, many people join movies to fulfil a lack within themselves, a need for attention, and not necessarily to be a part of storytelling.

Since the sudden rise of the social media boom I believe it gives the celebrities ample room to be present in the public space apart from just their acting job. And everyone wants a share of the public attention because of the perception to create a brand of themselves. Thus giving the respective PRs to resort to such made up personas of the celebs. As you rightly pointed out at the end of the day the audience will only judge them based on their craft no matter how entertaining or relatable they portray on the non acting job. A quirky relatable story on koffee with karan / promotion interview is definitely not making me watch/like your movie if the performance is not upto the mark. Idk if Alia Bhatt tried to "act quirky" in her early years, though she garnered a good PR for herself but that was always backed by unquestionable performance on the screen!!
