  • Look, there are some things you just can't paint by hand. Or more to the point, some things you shouldn't paint by hand, because they won't come out very clear. This is most true for custom sneaker logos, text, and sometimes patterns.
Because of this, you may feel tempted to go out and buy yourself a Cricut vinyl cutting machine, or some other type of vinyl cutter to make sneaker stencils, but don't do that until you have watched this video, on how to DIY stencils from home!
So in this video, I am going to teach you how to make stencils for customizing sneakers from home, that don't require any special machinery. And you won't need to spend any money on doing it.
All you need is a screen, a pen and some masking tape.
I have been using this stencil making technique for about 6 years now, and I have used it on too many projects to count.
The best part about it, is that it works for airbrushing, spraypainting, and hand painting stencils.
PLUS, I have a really helpful tip at the end that actually makes it all work together so well, you're definitely going to want to try it out!
Here are the chapters if you want to skip ahead to a specific point:
    00:00 Intro
    00:53 The materials
01:07 Are home made stencils only for airbrushing?

04:50 How to transfer your stencil
    05:50 Cutting out your stencil
06:22 Lifting and applying your stencil
    07:18 THE MOST CRITICAL PART
08:22 Using sneaker stencils with a paintbrush

For those who are interested, I use Angelus Acrylic leather paint for all of my customs, and I use generic non-branded masking tape.

If this comment gets 100 likes, I'll hand stencil that crazy tree 06:14 and make a video about it. Haha. (Why am I doing this to myself 😆😂)

I always appreciate the tips & how u explain it. My project I'm working on is mock ups. Since my device can't get procreate or Krita I'm using Hipaint for the moment. It works how I want it but I'm still getting used to the layer setup cause I keep erasing my design that's on top of the sneaker by accident. For example I want a design on the swoosh but I keep erasing the image and the sneaker image below the swoosh. So I'm still learning the buttons n what does what.

You know what! Before you know it you're going to be a pro at HiPaint and you're going to look back and realize that you couldn't do what you can now a few months ago. That's the satisfaction in this industry. You don't always see your growth and improvement as you go, because the wins are small and the progress is slow. BUT if you take the time to look back, you can always see the impact it has made. Keep on striving! Would love to see some of your designs. Do you have an instagram page where you post any of them?

@@thatmadartist I haven't set up Instagram at the moment. In due time I will when I have enough stuff to upload. I'm a newbie when it comes to Instagram so that's something I'll have to mess with, with one of my nieces or nephew's. Once I set it up u'll b the 1st person I'll add. I used to have facebook but that got hack so I gave up on that n deleted the account. Can't wait 2 see what ur next video will b about. I'm off to mess with this Hipaint.

my advice to anyone thinking about customizing shoes, get the cheapest cricut and skip this step entirely. this is good if its a one off, if you gotta do it more than once invest the money.

Wow, are they must be really helpful to your work to say that! Definitely see their value. The problem is, that many places outside of the US and Australia, they are soooo expensive, and they are a little out of reach for someone who is getting started and still just trying to scrape together cash for practice shoes, paints, and possibly an airbrush. So I offer this step to help people overcome that barrier to entry so they don't feel discouraged, or that great work only belongs to those who can afford it

Well! I think I might just make a video JUST for you to explain it! It's a bit much for me to explain with just text on a comment, so stay tuned for your video!

Good video but how does someone apply the details on the drawing?

Aaaaah! Now that is another great video idea! But, before I explain, do you know how to use tracing paper when copying or tracing a drawing?

    • @juanandalon5893
      @juanandalon5893 Před 3 měsíci

Yes I do. I’ve tried using the tracing paper but was unable to transfer my image to the shoe I was trying to use on. I was planning on using vans white high top
