- @RamTrucks gave me a new and unreleased version of their 2022 TRX: the Sandblast Edition! It’s like a supercar built for dirt, so let’s just call it a supertruck. Ridiculously comfortable luxury interior stacked with a 702 horsepower 6.2L supercharged Hemi engine, what more could you ask for? Maybe some suspension travel and frosty air conditioning? It has both of those things and plenty more. Naturally I wanted to test the limits of this new unreleased TRX so I decided to take it to Johnson Valley where they hold the annual King of the Hammers race to put it through the paces. And by paces I mean whoops, donuts, jumps, dune slides and a little Gymkhana too.

My first hooning car was an '89 Dakota 4x4. I loved that thing. Is there a reason nobody seems to do torsion bar suspension anymore? That thing cornered so flat, it was ridiculous. Well it did until I snapped the anti-sway bar around a corner, but that was fixed eventually. :D

If Dodge handed me the keys to one and told me to go have fun, I'd have no problem beating on it either. It's a little different if I spent $100k of my own money though. Ken even said he hasn't done much in his own truck.
@@angryginger791 of course but it may be possible he'll do some more later. For now he did do what it's suppose to do. It's very different because what I've seen with his personal raptor he's built that thing fully for Baja it's different when you modify a stock truck to a full blown Baja. Plus he's a Ford guy lol he has pure ford's all over. It's cool to see him for the first time drive something that isn't Ford. Plus the TRX is capable of what a factory raptor can do. Imagine a full blown Baja trx that would be very different. And tbh 100k I think a lot of trucks are ridiculous in that price range. When you compare a lot of trucks like an f150 platinum edition that thing ranges close to 90k -100k. So not worth it. A Trx in the other hand is different it's not your normal daily truck. It's a special truck in a different class. Just waiting to see how much a raptor r would cost I have a feeling it may be around the same 100k or even 120k who knows. But I can say this truck needs another video and this time some high jumps. There is a video like a year or two that someone purchased a TRX and did some high jumps. These trucks aren’t “really” meant for high speed off-roading. They’re meant to look like they are and hold up to it occasionally. If you look at a 750hp trophy truck from a few years ago (when they were just 750hp), they’re on another planet. True desert trucks have nothing in common with road legal trucks, they purpose built tube chassis. Dodge and ford are great at convincing people they sell street legal trophy trucks, but they just aren’t. If they were, they’d cost at least half a million dollars.
@@The11901 well let's rephrase that. These trucks especially the TRX is capable going high speeds better than any stock truck. Your comparison is Baja built purpose trucks that generate double or triple the horsepower that can be very very fast. There is a difference in what your saying. But in comparison for the public use this truck is fast for what it is up against any stock truck.
@@mopardude707 the horsepower is the problem though. 700 is absolutely absurd for something weighing 6000 lbs with only 13.5 inches of travel. A top tier trophy truck is the same weight with 1000 hp and 28-32 inches of travel. The TRX has so much more engine than it does chassis or safety measures. Someone is going to watch this shit, and then go send it down a fire road at 110+ hit an 18 inch deep ditch and demolish the front suspension, roll, and die. Just look at the literal thousands of raptors in junk yards with frame cracks behind their cabs because people jumped them more than 2ft off the ground. These trucks wouldn’t exist if they weren’t used 98% on the road because they’d be law suited out of existence. If you like the truck, which I do, be glad no one uses them like dodge wants you to believe you can.

That high speed blast across the desert!! The truck looked like one of those old movies with the film speed turned up to make it look like it was going faster only, in this case it was real time! Damn, that was fast and awesome to see! Watching Ken Block drive, you just know everything is going to be ok. Just when you think the jump and the high speed was the pinnacle, he puts it up on two wheels. Holy smokes! Awesome.

I dig both of the bronze Black Rhino wheels! I think I’d pick the Rapid over the Raid. They look simpler and less “busy”. That’s a sick truck, Ken! I bet Zac wishes the seats were brown, too haha! Much love from Texas!

Yup the Rapids look the best. Black wheels start to lose detail and look generic when dirty and the Raids are quite busy. I’d want to know wheel weights though too, but my choice is the Rapid.

Both Black Rhino’s in my opinion just complement the TRX extremely well, giving just enough black from the tire and wheel wells with a nice color flow that matches the rest of the truck. Plus side is that it makes it look as if the SandBlast Edition came stock with them.
Guys, I gotta tell ya, the only wheel set IMHO that comes close to how nicely matched the factory wheels look is option 2. I do like the slightly darker shade of the seemingly matched color tone. But otherwise, I actually really like the factory wheels compared to the rest of the options. They really did a great job on the design of those. Love them actually. Wish I saw this video earlier!! 👍🏻😎👍🏻
I absolutely love this truck! But also very excited to see the Raptor R. When it comes out Ken needs to do the same thing to it.
This was a great video showing how awesome this truck is in the hands of one of the best professional drivers on the planet.
I would go with option #2 or #3 for the wheels. The bronze does look awesome with the paint though.

I have had mine for over a year and a half and I love it. Just ceramic coated it and undercoated it for its second winter. I got the rock rails and the Ram bar on mine and threw on a ADD pre rubber bumper built for the TRX with a 40 inch light bar and two cube pod lights. Next comes the rear bumper and lights as well

5:55 LOVING the Raids. Whatever you pick make sure its a bronze wheel (would love to see shiny polished or reflective bronze on a black truck). The Rapids look a little 80s ish on the style (I hate to say that being an 80s child myself), but That look when its covered in dust is just awesome. I KNEW this truck would be perfect for you (and me) but everyone p*ssyfoots it on the street and treats it like an old ferrari and babys it and does small pulls to show off. Or they get upset with the gas mileage and get rid of it. I know you said its not a trophy truck but dang it almost is stock but performs like one. I've been wanting to see this truck in full send mode and you delivered. You were THRASHING a stock truck like it WAS a trophy truck and it took like a champ. I've been wanting one of these trucks since they first came out but im always gun shy of RAM/Chrysler/Dodge (yes I know they are separate but the brand damage is done). Too many times I have had to deal with their paper mache transmissions. Basically their interiors and trans fall apart too fast for my liking, especially for the price but man this truck performed liked I hoped it would. I wanted to build an overlander with one.
Any of the rams with the 8 speed are fine because the are zf transmission they are stupid strong

What proved to you that it's >30 thousand dollars better than a Tundra?? You can beat the shit out of just about any new truck and it'll handle it, until you're cruising to work a few days later and the rear diff starts making a noise or the trans misses a shift, who knows?? I can't believe people are willing to spend nearly 100K on a truck and many of them still have serious quality issues with extremely expensive repairs. I can always fix my Toyota's cheap and easily...

It’s like this I’ve been a mechanic and into racing since 1973, I’ve worked on and with several racing teams and for the last 17 and a quarter years I worked as an inspector for San Bernardino in SoCal and Dodges just do not hold up at all to where they won’t buy them anymore.
Ford’s hold up really good, along with Toyota’s and Honda’s.
So I don’t just talk the talk but have many years of racing and running experience behind my opinions.
I’m only replying because of my appreciation for the entire Hoonigan team and or crew.
