Ooni Sizzler Pan First Cook in Ooni Koda 16 | Chicken & Rosemary Recipe

- Hello! Welcome to our learning to cook pizza journey! I bought the Ooni Sizzler Pan because of its removable handle. I cooked nearly the same recipe as shown on the Ooni box and the Sizzler Pan leaflet as I love sizzled chicken and couldn't wait to give it a try.
The Recipe is available on the Ooni links below and this is the recipe I used:
5 chicken thighs (without skin)
Some sprigs of fresh rosemary
A knob of butter
Sliced half of red onion
Sprinkle of salt
Olive oil in pan (optional)

4:35 - 2 minute cook stage
4:54 - 4 minute cook stage
5:16 - Basting the Chicken in the Sizzler Pan
7:44 - Another Baste of the Chicken and Onion
10:40 - Tasting the results of the sizzler pan cook!
Seasoning the Pan:
Lightly wipe vegetable oil onto the inside cast-iron pan cooking area. Then season in an electric oven for 60 minutes at 205c. Just lightly refresh the clean pan with some vegetable oil again ready for the next cook. Don't leave the pan in water - it will rust!

Hi! Hope you are all doing ok! I bought this Ooni Sizzler Pan in the Summer when it came back in stock. I couldn't wait to give it a try out in the Ooni Koda 16 and I wasn't disappointed with this sizzler pan - it is so handy for cooking because of the two handle clips and the separate handle that ensures you never get a hot handle and a pan that is easy to manoeuvre in any oven that you use!
Rosemary is the perfect herb to add for autumn comfort food... I can smell this sizzling pan through the screen!

They fit perfect on a small 2 burner grill too, versus a typical cast iron pan with built in handle

Have you seen the Gozney Dome? Quite expensive, especially if you purchase many of the accessories, but looks very nice.
Do you perchance have a woodburner 2.0 on the way?
I have seen that and wow! It looks so different to what else is out there but is a lot more. I haven’t ordered the wood burner yet.
@@Got2EatPizza agreed on the Dome. It's a nice oven but I feel that with the stand and dual fuels it's 1700 which is far more than most entry level XL Kamado ovens. I could purchase 2 Ooni Pros and I suspect Ooni will counter with the Ooni Pro 2.
Yep - on the Pro - I hope so - it’s in need of a design uplift (Karu handles, chimney latch would be good) and doesn’t fit in with their new sleeker looking ovens.

I would have liked to see what temperature you maintained throughout the cook. Was it 200 throughout or did you turn the heat up at some time?
Hi - I kept the oven on low and so it was about 200c and I didn’t turn it up - I didn’t want the flame to burn the chicken skin -a bit like replicating hot coals/embers of a wood fired oven that glow hot with no flame and so is a great cooking heat/temperature.🔥
Just ordered a Solidteknics wrought iron pan ( thing of beauty. Going to give reverse sear Ribeye a go. Get the final crust in the Ooni I hope.

I was very surprised when you turned over the chicken. Looks like it stewed in the pan. After 4 minutes there should have been browning.
Hmm, the pan was super hot too, but the more oil you add the browner it will get but it would have been a “spittier cook”. And there were juices coming from the chicken - so more oil next time then!
Imagine what it'll be like when you can use both hands! 😀
It is soooo much easier to do these things when I’m not filming lol!
almost seems like without direct flame on bottom of the cast iron that whatever you are cooking is going to sweat and NOT brown up. I bought the unit solely based on the idea that I can hook it from both sides. I guess I'll use on my green egg.
Hi! Yes - I have got it to brown up just by adding oil at the beginning but I think having a flame underneath would be nice- I’ve just bought the kamado joe jr so will try my cast iron in there and see how it comes out.
The heat from below is coming from the stone and the pan itself.
