      @KxngKUDA Před 4 měsíci +3

      @@smokey949megastar isn't a thing. They're just superstars with better marketability. There are superstar talents that fade to obscurity because of small market teams/lack of social presence.
      Luka is 100% a superstar, like Dirk and Timmy D were. Just in a market that isn't considered high stakes and universally reputable.
      LeBron and Steph are legacy superstars, due to their established names and consistent production that still spans today.
      There are nba STARS, with the talent of possible superstars, but lack the cultural and league impact to be in that tier. That's for the ANT, SGA, Spida type players.
      Usually the biggest indicator of a superstar is contextually a combination of individual production, team success directly attributed to that production, and MOST IMPORTANTLY, how it translates into the postseason.
      The current NBA superstars are LeBron, Steph, Giannis, Luka, Embiid (still on fraud watch tho), Tatum, and Jokic
      SGA is VERY close. He needs a good playoff run to push him over the top. Same for ANT.

They have Bron and Curry as the only current mega star. Tatum is a super star on the mega star path. Along with Ja & Luka. And then they have a bunch of stars including Jokic and the rest.
    This episode is like a rough cut version of what they really mean. Because even I pointed out what they should have said to define it properly. Then Gil himself did so that same night on a stream and the next episode. The follow up episode made way more sense.

    LOW, you tripping bro 😂 There's a difference in the style of play, aura, and marketability of players from the 2000s to nowadays. More people watch the game now, but more people UNDERSTOOD the game in the '00s. There are many stars in the League now. But there aren't LEGITIMATE SUPERstars in the game today. Steph revolutionized the art of shooting as we know it. LeBron CAME INTO the league with the greatest hype of any HS Prospect EVER. They're still playing at All-Star levels at the END of their careers. The ability to be marketable, profitable, and successful miscellaneously while being ACTUAL faces of the league is what makes them legitimate Superstars.

    1:02 correct. Superstar means “Must See TV”. Steph and Lebron are must see tv they create an expectation that everytime you see them play you will see greatness. The other guys don’t quite have it. There are some guys that are close but they aren’t box office. Many of them will be forgotten the same way Carmelo, T Mac, Dwights, Isaiah Thomas and so many others aren’t remembered. If Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett didn’t have shows people would have forgotten about them too. You don’t forget the Allen Iverson, Kobe Bryant, Micheal Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson or Shaq because they were superstars. There are a lot of star players but superstars are immortal.

    I think that the term star gets confused because it could be referring to talent or popularity.
    If we are using star as a reference to popularity, I think a fair criteria for a superstar is this: face of the league, well know among non-nba fans.
    Historically I’d say superstars are what carry the league forward and introduce basketball to more fans. Guys like magic, bird, Jordan, Kobe, shaq, lebron, steph.
    Even if guys like KD, luka, Giannis, jokic, Tatum, embiid, etc. are undoubtedly amazing players and stars in their own right, they don’t have the universal name recognition (not just nba fans) that true SUPERstars have.

  • @dharrell016
    @dharrell016 Před 4 měsíci +1

    I don’t disagree with them saying Steph and Lebron are the only superstars if they feel that’s the highest category. But their explanation after and categorization of everyone else is off.
    Personally I think they’re conflicting superstars with faces of the league. Like when people think NBA, outside of NBA fans, whose names do ppl say…Lebron and Curry. That’s what a face of the league. Bron and Curry are the faces of the NBA.
    The tier below them are the superstars. Players like Jokic, Giannis, KD, and other who are unarguably accomplished and transcendent talents of a championship caliber who are still building their legacy/marketability in and outside the game. Honestly, the biggest gap between being a face of the league and superstar is your marketability beyond the sport.

    A superstar can take a team to the Finals with what they have. We have a lot of franchise stars that everyone claims are superstars, but they haven't done anything in the league except be a huge regular season stat padder. An all-star is a complimentary piece that will help the franchise star or superstar win a ring. Role-players are one-dimensional players ready to play for any team. Then we have the benchwarmers and journeymen who will either stay with one team or always go to more than one team after 1 season because they're good enough for one team that season, or stay on one team for multiple years like Thanasis because of reasons being clear to be seen, or the team likes them that much. We also have stars who aren't always voter for being an all-star due to other stars more popular than them.

    It’s levels to superstardom. It’s also what market/ team you play for & media. A superstar is a transcendent player in my eyes. You basically eclipse popularity not just being an NBA player but now people look at you as a celebrity. They want to know your life. which is synonymous with Superstar. They hang on every word that person says. Their views on world events and politics maybe. Also if they’re looked as one of the best or the best to ever do it and also change the game, do something revolutionary. Superstars are like A.I. Kobe Steph, MJ, Bron magic. Their popularity, even likeness eclipses the basketball landscape into other ventures in life. Giannis & Tim Duncan are superstars but only on-court sense. Can’t deny their level of play and talent. But are you telling me Bron and Luka are on the same level of being a superstar? Be for real. Fans are more pissed at Bron sitting out a game than Luka or Tatum.
