Drink-driver jailed for causing deaths of woman and infant in 141mph crash

- A woman whose baby son and sister were killed by a drunk driver told a court how she had to "pick her dead baby up from the side of the road" before his killer was jailed.
Zackary Blades, eight months, and his aunt Karlene Warner, 30, died at the scene after the Peugeot 308 they were travelling in on the A1(M) was hit in the early hours of 31 May.

My 3yo was killed by a drunk driver. We were passengers in another car. I was in a coma for over a week and had 4 ops over 4 yrs. There were 5 witnesses against him. He was fined £100 for drunk driving and his licence was taken off him for 5 yrs. 1976. I have walked with pain for 48yrs.

Nothing can compensate for this mother and for the family of the woman’s loss.
Seen the fall out first hand, people I knew killed or maimed. I am not the most sensible of people when it comes to myself, but I will not even have a half if driving. In my 30's I stopped staying over at mates houses and going out all day, for the reason of not driving back the next day.
After a session of a holiday 5 years ago I paid for an extra day to park my car at the airport and a premier inn room to clear out the system . I do not want wrecking lives on my 'palmares'

And he will be out in 8 and won't give a seconds thought to the victim's family. He'll just pick up where he left off as if nothing ever happened. I know because my father was killed instantly in a similar way, a drunk driver 3 1/2 times over the limit, 110mph in a Range Rover. Got 24 months! Yeah 24 months. My mother was 42 at the time and is now 82. She has never recovered and is still in deep grief. My Mum has had a 40-year sentence with no chance of parole whatsoever.
