      Nathan Hunter Thats what 7 did either.... Vista wasnt bad, it had some dificulties at the rtm state, but that where because 2 rhings, 1st was that ms changed the hole team that programmed vista and wrote a new kernel, based ot the old one, so that was the first problem, and 2. people used pcs that came witch windows 95 and where just not capable of running such an new os, when peoble upgraded their pc and ms had patche these problems, win 7 was only a year away from release, but 7 is just vista with a fully patched an slighly diffrent kernel and a new desing.

    • @issachowarth616
      @issachowarth616 Před 8 lety +1

      +MushFarmer Nothing will happen. You won't lose any data at all and since most phones (iPhones for example) are commanly made of aluminum the magnet wouldn't even stick. Thats not to say theres magnetic parts which wouldn't get screwed up. Many vibration motors used magnets and some use a magnet in the device to detect when the screen cover is down. Both of those will surely be affected by magnets. However they won't be ruined.

      @I know Cause I'm BatMan. Considering that, aside from the penny, US coinage in abundant circulation is comprised of cupronickel alloy with sufficient copper concentration to prevent nickel's typical ferromagnetic behavior, probably not much. Maybe if the guy with the large package of coinage in his pants rammed against Shoplift McGee's magnet laden pants package, they might learn a little about electromagnetic induction through a repulsive force their respective packages would mutually experience. Nature's way of telling those guys who carry too much change in their pockets, and those guys who circumvent anti-shoplifting devices with powerful magnets, to knock it off and stop humping each other in the Walmart electronics section.

    That T61P model must be the most durable laptop ever made! It took me over 8 years of daily hard all-the generic-tasks of a heavy clutter, heavy hand, heavy smoker abuse to grind it and its docking station down to almost useless and still that sucker ran strong at heart inspite I had worn out every integrated buttons and burnt out the display. First when the connection ports had gotten mechanically worn down beyond trustworthy contacts, it started struggle. Man I miss that machine!

    Those ThinkPads are well-designed to work in an industrial environment, so I think if you use it in high magnetic field, you can just put an SSD in, and you don't have to worry about losing your data. However I wonder how would a low-end consumer laptop survive the magnet.

    You really shouldn't have used a Thinkpad for this. These are good computers, and the T61 is still very famous. Upgrade it to 8GB of RAM (or even 4 are enough) and run Windows 7, Windows 10 or Linux (which I prefer, though I have a newer T520) on it, and it will give you many more years of happy service and a haptic experience that is lost with nowadays cheap plastic crap laptops, or craptops as I call them (no matter if they're Asus, Acer or whatever else).
