2024 NEW Isuzu D-Max on/off-road (inc. 0-100 & braking) review: They fixed the problems!

- Isuzu has finally listened and they have fixed the complaints we had with the Isuzu D-Max. They’ve even installed a ‘rough terrain’ mode to match the MU-X. Paul Maric takes it for a drive to see if it has enough to take on the best sellers in the segment.

#isuzu #dmax #review - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Every new car now is overpriced these days the car companies are taking the piss big time 😮
Especially Toyota, but the 🐑 just keep paying the ridiculous high prices. All these utes are made in a third world country, prices should be lower.
Yes, cars are expensive but a few things to keep in mind. Car on test. Here is top of the line Michael, with all of the bells and whistles to increase profit margin. Post covid inflation on raw materials has gone through the roof. Australian government takes a fair whack through stamp duty and taxes. Making cars is a very expensive business As evidenced by Tesla who happened to recently lost billions every quarter.
@@andrew6526 car manufacturers are not taking the piss. The dealers have taken the piss during and post Covid, especially Toyota dealers. And there's this other thing called inflation which obviously your brain cannot compute lol.70k now is the equivalent to 52k in 2011.
Geeze 10 years ago a sr5 hilux was 50k
@@79series an SR5 is the equivalent to the LS-U, not this model. This is the top model similar to the GRsport. The SR5 is no longer top of the range. And 50k ten years is equivalent to 65,000 in today's money, 5k less than this better speced model.
Reviewers always complain about the dmax being down on power from other utes but its faster to a 100 than a hilux and even faster than the 48v hilux. But they dont complain about the hilux having a lack of power. But Paul is a great reviewer, loves his reviews
My Hilux gr sport did the 0 to 100 in 9.5 sec, so not sure what you are talking about.
Paul's car reviews are great for potential buyers with useful information. Unlike the Carwow trend of sensationalism and useless drag races.
To each their own, sir.
Agreed. carwow used to give relatively good reviews before they became popular. Nowadays all they do is stretch a 10 second drag race into a 20 minute video, and their reviews consist of Mat being a snob and complaining if a car doesn't have a 100 inch screen.
At the very least you'll know everything is finger tap proof.
Soz I have do disagree with one lol 😅😅😅
Isnt car wow in South Africa ? Not being racist but ill be watching my Aussie mate cause thats were i live.
I'm I the only one who paused to see Paul when the Carexpert employees picture was displayed?😅And I spotted him😂. Great review. In Kenya, nearly all commercial vehicles are Isuzus. They are damn reliable.
Yes your the only one... he is happy to now have a stalker !
@@__PJ__ 😂Says you.
07:15, Look at the scratches on that glossy black plastic already, I wish manufacturers would stop putting glossy black plastic inside vehicles.
It makes no sense in a car to use that material. Why do they keep doing it? As someone with kids I won’t buy a car that has it.
Great eBay option with carpet & pockets, saves scratching
It’s not a difficult surface to maintain, like many synthetic interior materials. Gentle vacuum with the right tip, or compressed air, silicon spray and then micro fibre cloth. Easy peasy. My work vehicle is from 2020 and it gets all manner of dirt inside, whether from on site to my industrious kids, and it’s simple to keep clean.
Black is good but it should be matt finish, the sun reflects off it and can blind you if your not wearing sunnies.
My Mazda had some shocking piano black, was a dealer demo and scratch like crazy, luckily you can jump online and buy carbon fibre wraps, looks so much better
Go the DMAX! On the engine, I think sometimes there's too much emphasis put on 'the number'.. imo sure you could wind up the 4jj3 (plenty of high power examples after market) but reliability and longevity will ultimately suffer. I've had mine at GVM on some big trips (inc Cape York) and have never thought sheesh and extra 50nm would be nice.. I'm taking reliability every day of the week. 👍
Big fan of your channel dude! I live in the Caribbean
I’ll buy it when they come with the disc brakes at the rear. If GWM Canon advanced that far, I don’t know what holds Isuzu back.
Money and taking the piss 🤣🤣
Drums perform better when carrying heavy loads, towing.
Unless your on a racetrack rear end discs perform the same as drum.. Discs on the front with decent calliper's is what does 70% of your initial stopping. Drum rear end is better for towing and heavy off road. But you can always change them if you wish.. id never buy any of that Chinese trash...
Another wicked review! Thank you 🙏
Remember when 80 to 120 was done from a constant 80 to include the kick down, ,,???
Finally, the review I've been waiting for
Thanks for the look
Well done Paul, you are the only Aussie presenter to date that calls it an Isuzu and not Izusu…
Please do a review on thr 2024 wrangler. With all the changes, its worth the review
love your reviews mate. I got my nx350h fsport based off your comments! and i looooooooooove it
hello Paul , i have been given a dmax for a work ute , im finding it really good as what it is designed for ,a work ute its the SX model , it ticks most of the boxes , for its price its seems good value . main issues are , hunting between 6 and 5th , the silly warning on the radio every start ,and the system doesnt like sun directly on it as it cancels it self . good town and good open road manners . good review cheers Steve/Geraldton.
An interesting test you should consider adding is a repeated brake test to see how brake fade affects the performance. A vehicle that brakes well once may not continue to brake well after repeated hard brake applications in short succession, such as when coming down a mountain range
Unless your on a race track and have 6 piston callipers and vented rotors thats irrelevant.. you should always knock it down a gear or two when going down a steep windy hill...
It's for me the best that I'd buy .
Thanks I've been waiting for this one. I'm probably going to buy the XRider.
Its not much more for the X-Terrain..... thats what i ordered. The new Driveaway pricing makes it cheaper than some models below it.
Rough Terrain mode was available already in the MUX but i think it is not usable when the rear diff lock was on in your SUV comparison video. I have the MUX but I dont remember trying both at the same time. If you can turn on both at the same time in the 2024 Dmax....thats a new feature! Hopefully, it's an easy software update for the 21-23 MUX.
Yes can confirm both can be turned on, there are other reviews on CZcams showing this.
Nice review, and nice shoes too Paul😃
I love all your reviews of the Utes. Can't wait to see the Kia Tasman review 👏🏼
Thanks
Can you please consider putting " the average or median" DB & braking distance and 0-100 results by car relevant segment, in the graphic when display those results by during video.
Thanks
They refuse to display the rpm/power & torque curve when discussing engine specs so I doubt your suggestion will become reality too. Cheers
This car's ad was playing on prime during this T20 world cup.
Ive an early 2024 Dmax (pre upgrade). Hate the piano black, it’s just a dust attracter. Have they upgraded rear camera resolution? Also the front collision alert? It’s so sensitive! Bluetooth phone is also pretty poor, one of the worst qualities I’ve had. They also need to “up tune” it, I had to add a throttle controller as it was so lazy. Makes a world of difference. However, I tow 2000 kegs regularly and do about 70,000ks a year (done 54,000 so far) and tows without effort and very comfortable. Just seems they have so much more potential in the tune.
What throttle controller did you go with?
I’ve got the new one. The new interior is better but does attract dust to some extent.
The whole driver aid stuff is not only a total pain in the ass, it’s still a genuine hazard and Isuzu don’t care. It’s a box ticking exercise for ANCAP and nothing else.
The throttle is fine now but the transmission shift and lock up strategy is worse IMO. There’s a couple of tuners in the eastern states now offering a TCM remap though. Hope that helps 😊
2000kegs? Thats a shit ton of beers ahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
The camera resolution is better and also collision alert.. But a 360 camera would have been better ! then the front could be used going down steep hills.
This is what the Dmax should’ve had when they release the new model
Here in Europe it comes with a 1.9L Turbo. The Navara and L200 (Triton) aren't available, the Ranger and Amarok come with a 2L engine with a wet belt. Huge pass. Would stick with the ancient Hilux, with the 2.4L engine.
Good choice
Do you mean dmax 1.9L has 2 turbos?
The 1.9 engine is proven reliable, plenty of them with over 300.000ks in Thailand and Asia, plus it uses less fuel than the hilux and costs like 7.000euros less..
@@SILA1389 i would take the d max over the navara, triton, ranger and amarok, just not the hilux
@@port8565 yes, hilux is the best, but cost $$
you didn't show the camera? is it the same or is it updated?
Glad that I will buy a fully loaded Isuzu D-Max AT35.
AT35 ? If thats your age thats not a big deal.... Own your house at that age then we can talk....
I prefer the previous headlight setup, it looked more aggressive.
although you did say they fixed the bump steer issues, looking at the steering wheel on the rougher roads I can tell its still there. To me its all just cosmetic upgrades and my run with a 22 mazda dmax is enough to put me off getting another dmax
I personally think all Utes are about $20k over priced. We choose an X Terrain as Toyota stopped selling the Rouge when we went to order.
We liked the D Max wireless Apple carplay but as soon as you plug the phone in, it stops working after you unplug, so it’s no better than a Hilux. I’m glad they put a volume knob back in, digital buttons are horrible. I hope they fixed the sun visors, had both replaced under warranty and the drivers side is starting to get loose again. Not enough tie down points in the tray. The engine could do with a little more power but it’s ok. Some plastic surfaces scratch. Reverse camera works well, parking sensors are great, autonomous emergency braking needs refinement as it can aggressively brake when you are not expecting it to. Speed sign camera needs refinement.
Last, our gearbox was knocty moving between park and neutral, was told it was how I park, but after the last service, it now works ok and as I expect it too🤷🏼.
Overall, I don’t mind the Ute, it’s doing the job and looks great when it’s clean.
Looking fwd to your 2024 Ranger Raptor review, if not done already?
Any reviews for the 1.9L? Unfortunately we don't get the larger engine here. Am looking for a another pickup although my navara is holding up well :)
Paul thanks for the review and the improvements with the D-Max. Can you please confirm if they have fixed the bump steer problems with the new D-Max and MUX?
That's what I was thinking are they going to fix there previous models aswell haha
He said they did 11:56 🙃

he said they have. speaking to a few people about this the bump steer issue is still there, izusu are just giving different alignment specs to hide the tyre wear.
If you watch the video you can see the steering wheel moving every time they hit a bump. definitely still there from what I can see on the video
Price plus features the Cannon Alpha is a no brainer.
Im nearly pulling the trigger to get this one but I think I’d wait for the next gen hilux before making a decision.

It's designed for South Africans who need to escape from an attempted mugging
Thanks for the review. Any idea if the infotainment and digital display updates are going to the MuX yet? They were a disappointment when I recently test drove one. Also, the off centre rear camera was annoying.
Hi 😊👋 sir Paul can you plz review the Hummer EV truck then after the SUV please🥺
New Isuzu D max amazıng❤❤
Paul can you tell me about the tyre problem I have been hearing about what is it and have they fixed it
The noisy engine stopped me from buying one when they first came out, sad to see they haven’t refined it
soundproofing is better in the cab.. all diesels are noisy anyways..
$70,000 plus on-road costs to have the front tyres wear irregularly due to front suspension issue apparently
Thats isuzu for ya 😂😂🤦♂️🤦♂️

Been driving a Povo pack 2 door/tray dmax at work Without weight it is a shocking bumpy ride around sydney and the warnings/speed warnings are downright annoying [40kmh zones are not 24hr Mr Isuzu!] When its empty it does achieve around that 8l/100km though
Would be beneficial to put the dimensions (W/L/H) on screen as well. Fine review otherwise.
3-4 month waiting list though.. I ordered mine a month ago and still no updates. The remote start is what won me over after getting out of a 10 year old VF Ute that had that option.. its a godsend in Summer and Winter one cant go back to 40+ or 0 degree temps in the cabin ... ;) The wireless charging pad is actually available as an option but I'm not a fan as I had one on a hire car in the states and it basically cooked my phone as its always on and charging... And how is 130Kph the max ? Isn't there unlimited roads in the NT ?
Nah, N/T is limited to 130 now, hence max speed test at 130.
Paul please review the new Prado 🙏🏻
Hi Paul, could you please compare utes under $50K? Eg GWM Cannon vs LDV vs Musso etc. Off-roading, towing and everyday use. Thanks

Easy, they are all CCP trash.. Go get a lower spec Dmax.
Can't understand why car makers love black shinny plastic in the inside. Should be a silver/gray perhaps so it doesn't show the dirt and scratches. I wonder if the "bump steer " issue gives weight to the class action against Isuzu ?
Agreed, a dark grey in a matt finish would be far superior !
i don't understand why OEMs still using open-diffs or clutch-LSDs with all complicated traction system instead of the Wavetrac LSD or Quaife LSD that can do auto lock & auto torque balance precisely for both streets & off roading with less part & low maintenance cost?! traction system will become useless to those LSDs
Hi Paul, could you please include SA price
do the ram 1500 limited please
Dont these engines tune to around 180-185Kws and around 550-580Nm? Cant believe they didnt raise the outputs even slightly to match the others :(
And still no disc brakes in the back , apart from that a very nice utility
Better for heavy towing and offraod.
I like it better with the rear drums. Pls don't ask Isuzu to sht on it or at the very least, make it drum-in-disc if they were to go the disc brake path.
In the Philippines spec this it is Equipped with 360⁰ cam with build in Dash Cam and wireless charger like i don't get it why Aus* spec didn't get one for 70 Grand

Welcome to 'Straya specs.
The wireless charger is an option in Aus.. i dont like them they can cook your phone when your in it all day.
Our PH-spec Dmax has a 3rd party infotainment system, not Isuzu's. It's good, but not as smooth or as integrated.
Sir, between the Triton and the Dmax , which one do you think has the better ride in terms of comfort? Thanks.
The Triton has that annoying alert camera that keeps going off at night because it cant see your eyes properly !
Replace the tub “sports bar” with something useful. I’ve a 2023 XT and the Sports Bar and side steps are visual and for city people.
Just purchased another DMax but mid level with a canopy (wife has the XT) went with another 2023 as dealers are making room for the 2024 models, so saved a few $k.
My biggest issue with new vehicles is their “safety” technology. It literally makes them LESS safe! Automatic braking because the vehicle “thinks” you’re going to have a collision? How about I make that decision.
When my new DMax arrives, I’ll be removing most of the “safety” features.
Sent that bog hole a bit hard 😂 would be a better display of capability if you crawled through it a bit more steady

nope. bump steer still there
It's a whole lot of price for 30k in actual frame, engine & drivetrain, meanwhile the rest went into tiny expensive electronics and materials. If you asked me I think 20k just dissapeared into nothing.
It kinda reminds me of the millitary, for their known mark up price on regular materials, oh you have these 20 dollar rings? I'll give you 5 grand for em!

Yes he shows this twice, to the right of the steering wheel and it can also be turned off on the infotainment system.
@@__PJ__ oh my god it does too, needa start paying attention 😂😂
Are you aware of the front wheel bump steer issues with the 21 to 23 MUX and Dmax. Not sure it has been addressed in the 24 model. Serious tyre wear from pre teen kms and Isuzu is not admitting a design fault when when it changed from hydraulic steering rack to significantly bigger electric rack.
You didn't watch the video neh? He literally said it was addressed... Ayi
Addressing the problem with front to back tyre rotation and an alignment change that alters toe in does not fix the inherent steering design fault that is causing the bump steer and hence extreme tyre wear. That is Isuzu spin after denying the problem exists in the first place, hence the piles of owners signing up for a legal case.
He said they did 11:56 Plus I dont really care, I turn my utes over every 3 years...
you can see by the movement of the steering wheel, they haven't changed anything, probably just another set of wheel alignment specs
What has Isuzu done to correct the bump steer issue in the DMAX and the MUX. Head in the sand stuff?
Companies probably fix the issues, but don't actually advertise the fact they have, otherwise it would be an acknowledgement that there was a problem in the first place. Like Hilux and their DPF and 5th injector issues.
At 11:53 he mentions that they made some changes.
Probably just different alignment specs again 😂

Do a search for Isuzu bump steer tyre wear and you’ll see they know about it. All they’ve changed is the alignment setting, no hardware changes have been made.

RIP Dmax… thanks to Cassonova bowens NVES. Only a few years to go…
It will be torn up if the people vote those clowns out !!
Have they sorted there wheel alignment issues???
He said they did 11:56
they changed the wheel alignment specs to scrub out the tyres to hide the tyre wear issue. now instead of destroyed inside of tyre wear at 10,000kms you get entire tyre scrubbed out at just over 40,000kms as izusu say a tyre shouldn't really be lasting past 40k
Only 48 km/h in reverse?! Tsk tsk
Any cracks in the engine bay yet?
this current gen doesn't generally get engine bay cracks, they made the body mounts so soft that they split into pieces. I generally get 2000kms out of mine before they get changed under warranty

He said they fixed it. So, what did they do and will older dmax with the problem get a recall fix?
Did you even watch this video?
He said they did 11:56
izusu did a cover up fix with new wheel alignment specs to hide the tyre wear issue. still has a fair bit of bump steer that you can see in the video
