      recommending a FX30 for video beginners is like recommending a 400HP+ car to a beginner before he crashes it within the first ride.
      I think its more about being a "hybride" camera than a cine only in the future. Video is basically just a fast burst rate of photos and considering sensors got better the last years and i guess they will improve even faster the next years in readout speed, there will be soon the time when you dont have to differ that much anymore between photo or video centric, at least when it comes to sensor and image processor capabilities.
      The FX30, as nice it is:
      1) price... 2200€+ is ridicilous for APS-C!
      2) as you said in the cons.... no photo features
      3) probably the biggest issue, missing viewfinder - at least a small viewfinder would have been nice, but since its anyways only for video i guess they just forgot abut the EVF to make the camera even smaller (and save production costs/increase profit)
      As much i really want to say the FX30/FX3 is not that bad, especially considering video, their heavily limited photo features, price, annoying UI/menu design, Sonys color science, no EVF,... just doesnt come together in my opinion. And i can say that as someone who nearly changed from the RP to a Sony A7SIII since i really wanted full frame and slow mo video both together (until i realized i can not afford it)
      The actual camera im using is a EOS R7 (had the RP a long time and R6 for short before), i hated a lot on the R7 already because of 1500€ body only but at vacation i saw a too good deal in a photo store i could not deny. But even the about 1100€ i paid, i really had a hard time to decide if around 1000€ is worth a APS-C camera with a reused DSLR sensor of 2019.
      I mean i am SUPER HAPPY with the R7, at least a affordable hybride camera, unlike the in video limited and annoying to use R6 or the for video useless EOS RP. But im not sure if its worth around 1100€/$, let alone the MSRP of 1500$. And the FX30 is even more limited, only in rolling shutter and super slowmo better and cost nearly 1000$ more than the R7.
      I dont know, maybe i am just from yesterday, but i think we are getting ripped off heavily on the actual, capitalist style market, not just camera stuff related.

    that camera is great i have it myself, and you forgot to mention, that the Sony Fx30 can do Prores RAW, 4K 60 so you can get Raw Video out of that camera as well..
    Also it's autofocus is amazing, i have tried to make this camera Lose autofocus on my face and eyes and it is hard to do, it just holds focus so well.
    So if your shooting stuff like Skate boarders, BMX bike sports or even people running around, this camera will keep up with it all, it's Amazing.
    Also you don't have to Shot Cine EI or use the base ISO when shooting Slog 3 i have shot Slog 3 footage as low as 200 ISO just traded off 2 stops dynamic range and when in 200 ISO you don't have to over expose to get rid of nose because there is no noise at 200 ISO at all even in low light.
    you really don't lose anything shooting in 200 ISO, because first off the camera has total of 14 stops, and from all the expert test your only going to get like 12.8 Clean Stops meaning Stops with no noise, no matter what ISO you use, your only going to get 12.8 Clean stops, when you go down the 200 ISO you don't get 14 Stops total only 12.5 stops, but your only going to get like 12.8 clean stops any way even if using 800 ISO so really your not using anything, it does say 14 Stops total but that is not clean your never going to get 13 or 14 clean stops Gerald Undone tested this and he did a video testing the dynamic range using Lower ISO's then 800 like 400, and 200 so you should check out that video..
    And when i film i'm in a controlled environment where i can control the lighting so many times i shoot at 200 or even 160 ISO and get super Clean video with no noise at all even in the shadows..
    Oh by the way here is the Video from Gerald Undone about shooting below base ISO when shooting SLOG3

      Panasonic will be go to if you need open gate or are on a very tight budget. There are still better cameras in the 3500+ range that still out do it in many ways.
      If you are making money then expensing the cameras as a tax write off makes them a lot more attainable.
      Imo, if you are looking at an S5 you likely could afford an a7siii, canon r5, c70, or A1. Especially when you account that with adapted (canon) and third party (sony) lenses the overall package is cheaper.

    The Panasonic S5II will be a fantastic competitor to Sony's cameras (I am an A1 owner and have owned previous Alpha cameras), but it will be difficult for them to overcome the overwhelming collection of lenses available for the E/FE system; also there is still slight 'background warble' that has shown in some tester's videos... either way the S5II should push more acceptance of 6K by the largest camera manufacturers and not just '6K downsampled to 4K' like on most newer Sonys, for example... Definitely want to rent an FX30 and try it's video as a 'B' camera to my A1`!

      Whats that good on the Panny S5 II? Probably a very good allrounder if you can afford it (well fitting lenses are rare and expensive on this system!), but nothing i would really want for video in general.
      Its a very photo centric camera, but its 4K video crop make out of it just a glorified APS-C video camera but at least an awesome full frame photography camera.
      I mean, uncropped/downsampled 4k60 and probably cropped 4k120 should have been the LEAST to expect considering how much the manufacturers are now bragging about readout speeds on newer sensors.
      Dont get me wrong... its definately one of the better picks in the actual situation of the market and development, but its damn pricy for some annoying limitations in video.

    I’m glad you said that the FX30 is just as good as the FX3. The biggest difference as I see it is the sensor size, but I can’t think of many instances in my career when a full frame camera would’ve benefited me and I don’t think I’d pay almost twice as much money to have it. It’s actually a newer phenomenon to have such a glut of full frame cameras on the market. For much of my career APSC was the most common. Of course, I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge that the camera that revolutionized our industry and put all of us on this course, the Canon 5D Mkii, was a full frame sensor camera, but many that followed were APSC or smaller. Looking at you Panasonic. It is absolutely insane that the FX30 offers so much for so little. That being said, I really want an FX6, but only for the form factor and all that comes with a bigger body. I’d be totally fine with it having a crop sensor. In fact, Sony, how about giving us an FX60?

    • @RiceCubeTech

      The fact that the 4K 120 crops in on already a 1.6x crop is kinda oof imo.
      Typically speaking, Sonys full frame offerings also offer greater dynamic range and noise performance.
      And the fact that typically speaking, full frame Sony lenses are nicer than their apsc lineup. And the fact that accounting for drop factor, the nicest Sony lenses wouldn’t look the same on apsc and 4k120 cropped in.
      For some people that’s a big deal. For most it probably isn’t, but just because the market used to be ok with apsc sensors, s35, s16, etc. doesn’t mean larger sensor sizes arent desired.
      I mean if larger sensors weren’t necessary or weren’t wanted, Vistavision sensors, full frame, medium format, and imax cameras wouldn’t exist.
      I mean even back in the film days there were larger film stocks than what we would consider apsc.

    Open gate is huge. Influencers seem to not have caught up on how important it is yet. Not only for vertical video without moving the camera, but I think the big thing is being able to use different aspect ratios. For example to shoot same ratio like Stanley Kubrick.

    • @RiceCubeTech
      @RiceCubeTech Před rokem

      Open gate is nice, but it isn’t necessarily needed when you can crop in post and use things like full frame anamorphic lenses.
      Even though the sensor readout in the 8k mode is 16:9 you can still crop to other aspect ratios and maintain extremely high quality video since 8k is 4x 4K.
      For example, on the A1 I could shoot 8k with a Sirui lens which will squeeze the image effectively increasing your cameras FOV and then crop down to an aspect ratio of 1:66:1. The Sony cameras have guideline features making it easy to maintain your framing knowing you’re going to crop.
      And if you shoot in 8k you won’t necessarily lose quality if your final delivery is in 4K or 2.7k like most modern films.
      And yes the A1 is a much more exciting endive camera obviously, but the point is, with greater resolution sensors, open gate is less of an advantage since you’re essentially

      It’s a good camera. But it’s not this industry disruptor the CZcamsrs are making it out to be. Small Production teams who can’t afford arri or red will still use canon and Sony cinema line.
      Freelances will still largely use canon and Sony mirrorless.
      Why? Because camera body features aren’t the biggest thing. It’s the lens selection and that’s where Sony and canon dominate. Canon has all their old lenses which actually work better adapted on the R5 and co better than they did on the old dslrs.
      Sony has a better range of native glass AND more third party support than Panasonic.
      And the features of the S5 that it has over canon and Sony, aren’t really as game changing as you’d think.
      Shutter angle is nice but Sony and canons cinema line already use this. Open gate is nice but if you shoot 8k on canon or Sony, you can already crop just as much on a 16:9 sensor in post as a 6k 3:2 aspect ratio on Panasonic.
      Ibis is nice, best in industry, but on a paid job you’re still gonna busy out a gimbal or steady cam.
      Genuinely speaking, and I’m not trying to be rude since it is your opinion, but the Panasonic doesn’t bring anything new to the table that isn’t already in existing cinema cameras or can’t be worked around with on other mirrorless cameras.

If you are using FF set-up and are used to FX, then it's not enjoyable using the FX30 as there are plenty of things for you to worry during filming. So I am selling off my FX-30. Dynamic range is bad. Highlight roll off is bad. Lack of viewfinder makes it extremely hard to focus under bright lights conditions. It's just me.Enjoy your FX30 guys and girls.

    as an old panasonic users. Can tell you that i was jealous of sony af , specially on gimbal . Panasonic af was just atrocious , even on S5 with lumix lens. BUt as pana users you are used to it in exchange you got the best IBIS on camera (on m4/3 ) and fullframe.
    Now S5 II with a good af >>> specially at 2K price range and even under 3K price range, (nothing to beat). You wanna use FD lenses ??? can't be a better choice than a panasonic specially with his IBIS.
    I have a canon and when i put my 135 f3.5 and fd 50 1.4 its night and day compared to my gh5 or s5.

  • @filipmichalsaffray441

    Hi,
    Great Videos but if you like BRAW so much the best option will be in 2023 S5ii or S5iiX which is a FF Blackmagic like from Panasonic with Phasedettect AF
    By the way I have 2 Org S5 and BRAW Vlog from them has more Dynamic range better low light vs BMPCC6K or 4K I own as well.
    Sure you need Blackmagic video assist 12k for it.
    Why spend it on an APSC camera like FX 30 with no DCI 24fps or 48 fps.
    And 10 bit 422 alli unlimited is since 2017 in Panasonic GH5 onboard so Sony was kind of late for that 😂😂😂
    For me better money for the bang is S5ii...AF is probably not an issue anymore...just one plus of fx30 is 120 fps 4K on fx30 but it is cropped and even smaller than GH6 MFT sensor.
    And nowdays with Topaz AI I think S5 120fps footage could hold it even upscale vs FX30 120 fps.

      Dynamic range is quite a huge jump iirc. At least 1 stop or more. The FX30 sits at around 11+ stops (13 with some noise reduction), but the A7S3/FX3 is 12.5. The only S35 sensor to match to FF is the X-H2S with more DR (14.3 stops after NR) than the R5C (roughly 13stops with NR), or the C70.

      I have an fx30 and an a7iii, and I love them both. I ended up choosing the fx30 over the a7iv as an upgrade to be my new main cam earlier this year and I’m so satisfied with it, I thought the aps-c crop would be more of an issue but it hasn’t really been an issue at all for me, and the fx30 has even been amazing for photography. This camera surprised me with how much better it was, I knew it would be an upgrade but this thing is seriously great. I’m sure the a7iv is also amazing, and obviously would be even better for photography, but if you’re mainly doing video I’d highly recommend the fx30

    • @professionalpotato4764
      @professionalpotato4764 Před rokem +1

      FX30 for sure. The A7iv you would be over-paying for photo features you don't use. Also the crop in 4k60 also means you need 2 sets of lenses for slow motion (especially wide angle). Doesn't make sense to buy APS-C and FF lenses for 1 camera. At least there's barely any crop in the FX30 4k60p. And you get longer reach for lower prices too.

Also been so happy with how far I can push this footage in terms of color and exposure saving in post.

    • @jasonleung6433
      @jasonleung6433 Před rokem +1

      @@LindustriesOutdoors Thanks. This is what I'm confused about too: with white snow the metering might be flashing +2.0 but it still won't be exposed 'bright' enough to sufficiently reduce noise in post. Also S-Log is just much darker than PP0/11 so even though it already meters +1.7 the image is only just about exposed correctly (and not overexposed by +1.7)...

    • @LindustriesOutdoors
      @LindustriesOutdoors Před rokem

      @@jasonleung6433 yes, often with all that white snow and ice in the frame the metering will be flashing like it’s way overexposed, just have to combine it with all the other tools to set your exposure, and also just use trial and error and make it work.
