Yeah I agree with what some other comments are saying, that it should have been the FX6 over the FX3. The A7SIII and FX3 are effectively the same camera, with the FX6 having the same sensor, but being a cinema body with cinema features; internal ND, timecode, etc.
Ahhh I hate being “loyal” to a brand but I just love canon. They have a specific look and warmth to their images. And their UI is pretty user friendly 💙
I'm sorry, but "warmth", and a "specific look" to their images is not because of the brand or the camera. The camera makes the images have a high quality look to them, but its the person who gives it that warmth. And come on.... "UI"?????? Bro, UI???????? This is cinematography, not picking between mac or windows. UI is the last thing you should think about when buying a camera.
i agree, canon colors look good out of camera.
Well, Greg Frasier (DP of Dune) is using the FX3 as the A-cam on a feature film this year, so keep that in mind (and I've shot on it, and it's a beautiful camera). Plus the FX30 is a great b-cam to it.
Sony is what I would do simply for the lens ecosystem. I would add that the FX3 and A7Siii are the same camera essentially. The A1 is the camera to compare to the R5C. The FX6 should be compared to the C70. Anyways… I would personally go with the FX3 or FX6 with a A7IV for pics.
real
I feel like it would be more fair had you tested the FX6 vs the C70 as they're a lot closer in price range. Also, what about the Z9? You guys recently made a video saying how they have the best specs for video features, and how its a 'serious' contender vs the other brands now
Thanks for the video guys! I have a Canon camera and have never used Sony, but now I can see just how close a call the choice is.
I think ya'll just switch to Fuji. To hard to decide🤣
I have one lol
Former Fuji shooter switching to Sony. X-T5 is awesome and the X-H2s is awesome with video.
I switch to Fuji hehe
For sure !
Fuji are REALLY good value in 2023 !
That`s exactly, what I wanted to see. Thank you, guys!
The a7sIII and the FX3 depending on the FX3's software version are the same camera. It is the exact same sensor and features if your FX3 is on v1 firmware. After 2 - 2.02 it added a lot of cine features that it did not previously have. A lot of a7sIII users are upset they did not get an update. We sold the a7sIII's that we had, and upgraded to the FX3. That way it operates more similar, operation-wise to the FX6.
Just recently decided to upgrade my camera choice from an older Canon dslr to the mirrorless Sony a6400. Haven't gotten it yet but mainly got it due to price, lowlight performance, and video specs within a budget under 1000. I considered going to canon RP but decided the 4k abilities of the a6400 were better than the RP even though the RP was full frame and the a6400 was a apsc crop sensor. I'll still be using my ef lenses just due to my budget. Will be using a mount adapter for ef to e mount. I personally would go Sony for price and lowlight performance, but love the color science of Canon better. I just wouldn't justify spending more on Canon and then still have to spend more on batteries and rf lenses.
I would go for Canon if it was just photography. But for cinematography Sony is a different beast.
Coming from a C70 owner.... it's a beast for cinematography.
Thank you for highlighting what seems small things, but are super important, like file sizes, battery life and and practicality.
Oh also for the FX3 and version 2-2.02 firmware you can use and view custom LUTs. You can also bake your custom LUT right into the footage and deliver right out of camera.
well I am on Panasonic since quite some time - just got myself the S5 Mark II and love it
The A7siii and FX3 can both shoot at 240 fps in HD (1920x1080). So that would be a more fair comparison between the C70 at 2k (2048x1080).
Time flies, it's almost 3 years since a7siii came, it's such feature packed that many people aren't yet asking for a7siv.
I definitely am !
@@dylanjones2295 You have already got siii?
@@rk_bullet yessir, I really wish they add the new autofocus that’s in a1 and A7iv. Also some breathing compensation cause these gm prime lens are like really bad when it comes to focus breathing
@@dylanjones2295 these are some real valid points, you are a pro sir 🙏
Why is everyone pretending that all the line up of EF glass just doesn't count for lens solution in RF bodies? They work as well as the native rf lenses, theres no difference in the autofocus. The a7siii is not a true hybrid, i never saw a pro photographer using that camera on a daily basis. File sizes, means more information=better image quality. And the last thing i want to point out is that the r5c is capable of recording 8K 60fps Raw internally, instead of the 30 fps you've mentioned. Cheers! In my perspective Canon wins. Keep up the good work! Great video!
People whining about the lack of Canon RF lenses and compares it to the 'vast' Sony E-mount ecosystem but then only buys G lenses, so what was the point of comparing the ecosystems when you're sold on G lenses anyways? Current RF L lenses covered the major focal lengths already at both f4, f2.8 and adapting Canon EF will always be strongly recommended, so what is wrong with some people? 😂
@@tjdultra6982 And also Canon should've win just for the sake of bringing out the "holy grail" for camera glass: Canon RF 28-70mm f2!! It is magnificient! It's heavy, expensive and not stabilized, but the potencial coming out of it and the image quality are quite outrageous!
@@vitorquental3628 Haha yes! Both photo and video should have it! I just can't justify it in my personal use case which is important and essential to think about before settling down with a brand. I rock the R6 + 24-105 f4 L atm and it is enough for both stills and video for me personally. Dreaming of having a C70 tho 🙃
If you have Canon lenses already, picking up the C70 makes more sense. Until now there's no issues with adapting EF to RF some even claim old EF lenses worked better when used on an RF-mount camera.
there's also adapter from Ef/Efs to sony, so no big deal there at all :D
C70 is a beast of a cinema camera
... everything you want built right into it and the look coming straight out of the camera is just insane.
Canon Rules!! but is so hard to choose
I was in a similar situation two years ago (as a Canon shooter since the release of the first digital Canon dslr). Then I chose the sony a1 because I needed a hybrid camera suitable for large-format printing. Now I'd go with the a7sIII for video and online photos, or ditch the FX3 for the FX6 for video only. The only thing that is marked by the richness of the images streight out of canon cameras but I always soot in log.
My preference is the BMPCC 6K Pro or the Ursa Mini Pro 4.6K G2. But between the two brands and models provided here, I recommend the C70. It is the only Netflix approved camera in the bunch.
It should have been FX6 vs C70
And FX3 vs R5C.
But great test regardless and all are good options. I’m currently using All Sony. FX6 for video and a7r3 for stills and B-cam
Coming from a Canon C70 owner....I totally agree with your comment here makes perfect sense.
FX3 with the FX30 B cam… the perfect combo
Not sure if I need to vote, you both seem to prefer the Sony's camera's (more positive comments on the Sony critiques and follow up neg comments on Cannon positives). Thanks for the comparison between the two, I learned a lot. I will play around with low light shots. This was fun video. :)
Sony A1 is not listed on your web site so YELLING a YES vote from here. I have both the Sony A1 and Sony A7SIII. A7SIII is a deal changer for low light video. Unbelievable in super high ISO. #1 go-to for me, though, is the A1. Absolutely incredible. Was once a Canon-only shooter. Changed to Sony two years ago. Very happy with the change. If you find the weight of the Sony too light or too small, adding a cage makes a difference. I cage all my cams.
And a cage also adds actual structural protection that simply having a “heavier” camera doesn’t. Cages are a must imo for mirrorless cameras that don’t have mounting points.
Thanks, good to know.
My vote is canon because the C70 and your ef glass with a canon speed booster would be dope AF, but I’d probably go the R6ii for B cam over the R5C.
But I think the FX6 and A7IV + FX30 could be a very compelling option also.
The R5C doesn’t have Clog2 so matching the colours with SLog3 makes more sense for a rounded out kit.
The C70 mk ii going to be an end game camera most likely.
C70 has Clog3 also. Very easy to match
Sony FX 3!!!!! 😎
Finally my most awaited debate Thanx for the video I am an aspiring cinematographer who did the creatives with my mobile but now time to move for an sony which is my most fav
I'm a canon user and for a long while I am so addicted to them because of the glasses I have from that line. However, since Sony wins I suggest you upgrade to Sony
Hi..Good video...👍
Could you please tell with which camera, you did.. this video shooting ?!
Sony overall, plus the more cinematic look colors.
But.... try fuji xh2s as well, you will fall in love with the colors
What log format did you shoot on the c70 when doing the dynamic range tests?
So which one won the vote? Didn't see a link to the winner?
I saw the outcome before the video even started. I’ve used both and stuck with Sony. WAY better than canon
The thumbnail is 🔥🔥🔥
you can control the autofocus speed on Canon, and they have eye tracking :)
The C70 has a speedbooster which gives you fullframe EF options. Also there are ways around almost everything in this video with it which makes the C70 win. If you need to make pictures also, it can, but it's not made for that. You could also just film and take a still shot from your footage in editing software. Number 1 is Canon C70, after that the sony camera's. I wouldn't switch to another camera for anything + use my SL2 for photos and that still does the job just fine. Glass & lighting is more important than camera's, the C70 makes it easy. I use my C70 most with the Canon EF 70-200 III, that combo is amazing.
Yep it does but I also use a 17mm -40mm .... I bought a Surui 35mm cinema lens and is you can get past the manual focus it is great.
I have used canon cameras and I have used the Sony cameras but Sony has given me the best experience both in the photo world and video experience. Thank you for this video
First video I saw from you guys, so first off great video! But one question, why not Black Magic's pocket 4k or 6k cameras? No this isn't around the hype of everyone switching to resolve. I used to shoot on cannon for ages (Started with the 5D but moved to the R5 which I still use for photos) but for video I've been using the BM 6k for a couple years now and have no regrets.
Personally, I use Sony because of the low light capability. But, I like Canon color science more than Sony to be honest...
in the end, choose your camera based on your personal need and preference.
Caanon R5c can shoot 8k raw up to 60, and also in crop mode 5k raw up to 60
How about the new LUMIX S5 II?
I think a more fair comparison for the C70 would be the FX6 not the FX3/A7sIII. I would only choose the C70 for the internal NDs. But hard to really make an objective decision as I think most start off in one ecosystem or the other and buy a lot of glass. The FX3/A7sIII are best value for the buck IMO. I do wish Sony had included internal NDs for the FX3 but that's where the FX6/9 comes in. Also what I really love about the FX3 is its low profile/portability -- you can bring it a lot of places that a full cine camera would be too conspicuous/onerous.
I don't think c70 records 8k footage.
@@vitorquental3628 Yes my bad ... that would be the R5C for 8k.
Objectively fx3 beats c70 besides internal nd every other way fx3 wins. Its a known fact
What’s up, Matt! (Met you a couple years ago working a wedding at Trump National Center).
Gonna vote Sony mainly because of the COMBINATION of autofocus performance IN light low. Although the built-in ND filters of the C70 is SO attractive. The closest I get is using magnetic filters on my A7sIII.
But like you said (a couple of times 😂), the C70 doesn’t shoot stills. 😢. Great video and you’re doing a great job on this team.
Oh had to edit my reply and also include the fact that Sony’s 3rd party lens options are a major advantage over Canon. Since Canon currently restricts development by 3rd parties.
I"m a student of tomorrow filmmakers too, I prefer sony cos the small it fit me well for my hand, btw i vote for you to buy Sony too, cos I want to see more teaching about sony brand in up coming lesson haha.
Luts can be imported in FX3 too.
Did you film this before the S5II announcement was made?
Decision is!?!?!?
Wow! I’ve shot with canon (now arguably just OK, because I’ve been stuck in entry level since the AE1) now just straddling myself with an upgrade to video from XTi to T7 (I know already shot myself!) but always been a fan until now! Sony comes out almost WAY on Top! Jmo…. Thanks for sharing this. I’ve heard about the focus, but some of the clarity issue and low light was kinda surprising! Sony hands down😢😮🎉
I went from the xsi to the t7i and it was worth it. Obviously there is an improvement in image quality but also the touch screen Is convenient. I remember also thinking it looked high resolution. And it turns out cannon has some of the better in camera displays on the market. Plus the addition of video recording was the main thing for me.
Don’t understand the comparison between the A7siii and the the R5C.. 45MP vs 12MP sensors? And C70 vs FX3? Cropped vs full frame? FX3 and A7siii is basically the same camera. C70 should have been compared with the FX30 in my opinion. And the R5C should have been compared with the A1.
I think you can also load luts on the FX3. Go Sony!
Since they all share the same sensor (a1 doesn’t) and features and codecs I’d go FX6 as A cam. FX3 as the B cam, and the Sony A1 for photos.
The C70 and FX6 are much more comparable. I really don’t enjoy the disservice by intentionally pairing two completely different classes of camera against each other
Just got a Sony A7iv and my main reason was because the lens selection. Sigma 24-70 f2.8 DG. Next I will get the Sony 70-200 f2.8 v2
I just got a canon and I'm really loving it. So for sure I'd like you to go with canon, even if it's not the winner! 😊😊
So wich one shouldI get as a starter?
Thank you for sharing 💕
Hello, I got a Canon lens with already attached NEX mount, where a screw on the locking ring is missing, so the ring is moving all around and the adapter is not coming off. Would you know how to remove it, so I can attach FD to EOS? Thanks
So...what about the BMPC 6k Pro for video? 🤗 For the sake of the video, I´m a Canon guy...but I think that for our today´s work, those Sony feels good. I would also consider the GH6....don´t you?
i still go for the sony camera since i hate the reddish skin tones in canon cameras
Thanks for your review and all the categories you looked at and tested. I would vote for Sony for the different projects that you guys shoot. Sony is the winner in 10 out of the 13 tests.
What's clear by this video and sooooo many others on youtube, Nikon is simply not an option. Sony, Canon and even Panasonic are bringing 'fresh, new, better, innovative, bolder' to the marketplace at a furious rate. Nikon: "Well, how 'bout our two year-old Z6MKii? Pretty cool, eh?" (zero news so far this year outside of a couple of lenses) It's sad. That once great company is being left in the dust.
An amazing review. Liked, Subscribed, hit the notification bell and left this comment. SONY!
Which did you switch to?
How come you didn't enter the S5II or the Nikon Z9 into the competition?
I'm going to have to check that out I shoot with the Panasonic GH5 for CZcams.
Both. Both is good.
I'm personally a Sony guy, my dad and a number of my friends are Canon guys, and we all get really great footage out of our cameras.
Great video guys! I voted Sony. Looking forward to seeing the result!
🤣🤣🤣🤣 I see what you did there. This is so smart that I can’t even knock it. Get that paper.
Hi my name is Rishi Gill.
I want to join your course.
I have few things which I want to fully understand.
I am currently residing in Kenya, which might be having a different time zone, is this likely to affect the training ?
Is there somebody going to give training on the course as I might have several queries during the course, so in order to understand it fully I will be needing somebody to guide and explain.
What will be the duration of the course and how you are going to give training on the same.
Don’t know why you compared the FX3 to the C70. The FX6 is a more formidable competitor to the C70.
Shooting the gun made me subscribe great video!
what about a7r5 & a74 for hybrid cameras
Hard to vote but I have Sony alfa7 mk 4 😄 I swich from Nikon to Sony so I vote for Sony 😃
I have shot on Canon mainly, I bought a Sony several years ago but returned it because I hated the way the menus and settings worked - I just found it so clunky.
It seems though that by and large the Sony seems to outperform in many of the categories that matter to me.
Maybe I will revisit the Sony option or go with a Black Magic 6k Pocket Cine Camera and keep my Canon glass.
My Canon Camera gave up the ghost recently- it was old and not worth repairing
Sadly being a Canon user I think it comes down impart to wether or not you will be using the HDMI port as Canon is extremely fragile compared to the full HDMI port on the Sony. That’s why I I bought the Sony a7IV along with no recording limitations, overheating, better ISO, active stabilization, and ability to quickly switch between photo and video with 3 separate custom modes for each. So I would pick the Sony for video even though I love Canon for photography. 😉
Is this coarse applicable if I want to use iphone and Android phones?
Can't believe you guys pulled a real gun for slow mo test 🤣😂
Get the Fx6. Clearly what you guys need.
I’ll be leaving Panasonic as well. I believe Sony is the best brand for a film maker. I’ll be going with the A7S iii or A7S IV
Why not the panasonic s5 iix?
AWESOME VIDEO!
Now, that Panasonic finally introduced a camera with better autofocus than the competition, you're switching? :-)
Exactly...super strange...
It doesn’t have better autofocus lmao. It has good auto focus, but it’s not better. Nowhere does anyone who tests these, claim it’s better. Where the heck did you get that conclusion?
The Panasonic S5ii is a great camera, but the AF still lags behind both Sony and canon. Especially when it comes to under exposure tracking.
Very Nice Video. I like Sony much better than canon and also use a Sony
HELPPP MEEE DECIDEE
ZVE10 w/ Sigma 56mm 1.4 or Canon R50 50mm 1.8
I bought a Canon RP last week for half the price of any other FF camera body (was mainly looking at Sony and Canon options though)
I shoot photos primarily so it wasn't really a competition here.
Surely not having proper third party FF lens support on the RF mount kinda suks, but let's hope we'll get those eventually. APS-C users are already getting them.
To provide some additional context, I was using an old 7D so far that I really like, but I wanted to get a nice upgrade, I don't care much about the shooting speed, I wanted a good compact camera that can take nice photos, doesn't break the bank and I'm comfortable travelling with, so it doesn't feel like I'm carrying a brick with myself.
Can we all just pause to agree that the thumbnail is straight fire?
Please do compare between canon r10 vs sony a6400
Is there even a debate as to what camera you should buy ?
You should wait for s1 Mark ii
Or go with S5 Mark ii
If you have L Mount lenses
It’s no brainer. Simply go for Sony. Thanks for the wonderful video. 👍
Thanks for the head to head battle. Although , I think a better comparison would have been between C70 vs FX6 and R5C vs FX3. Neither the C70 or FX6 take photos, this leveling the playing field. As a Canon shooter, I’ve entertained the idea of adding Sony to my system. Not replacing Canon, just adding a new kit to our business as the Canon currently is used mostly for photos.
Also…you failed to mention Canon’s various other flaws….namely their chokehold on the rf mount system. Whereas Sony has it open for third party manufacturers. Another thing to mention is Canon’s inability or whatever excuse they have to not put CLOG 2 on their mirrorless cameras. I love that no matter what Sony you purchase, you’re able to match up SLog3 across cameras.
-Canon User
After giving up on Nikon’s “Filmmaker’s Kit” for video (because I had the Nikkor glass) I went to Sony because it wasn’t the - opposite - of Cannon… fact is the Nikon still uses the Sony video chip which means I can still use my Nikon ecosystem and stay within the same color science… as a 2nd camera….
And I opted for the (way overpriced) Sony Alpha One because all my shooting is - in studio - under controlled lighting with fairly static movement… though the Alpha has minimal motion distortion for a shutter camera… well within what I need to shoot.
Sony cameras also have 240 fps slow motion with a usable quality.
so youre gonna switch to whatever brand gets the most votes?
I have the canon R3, i think this may of been a better body than the C70 for your use case. But if i was buying everything new, Sony is the leader currently.
I use A7RV and Z9 for work
Sony the better brand but that C70….. Boyyyyyyy!!! 😮💨 absolutely amazing!
Looking back at this video, R5c and c70 are still Canons best video choice, Sony has come up with the A1, A9iii, Fx30 and Burano
How come no fx6 vs c70
You honestly did not mentioned that Canon did not work with not native Lens and Sony have so many 3rd party lens like Tamrom, and they have programmable rings by the way.
