- Its day four of The Great Britain XV railtour which started out from Llandudno Junction with LMS 45596 Bahamas for the run to Carnforth where LMS 46115 Scots Guardsman took over for the leg to Edinburgh Waverley unfortunately the loco being failed at Lockerbie with a suspected hot box on the tender, we first see Bahamas at Bay horse then Scots Guardsman on the Carnforth Levels and after being able to pass the Scot a shot from the road bridge just south of Shap, the conditions were perfect at Beattock but unfortunately I only got a plane, thanks to Steve and Shep or the company and crack and Steve for the lift, thanks for watching.
Great footage Nige.
I was at Beckfoot where I got her accelerating away from being pulled in at Grayrigg for 1S58, unfortunately the clouds weren't playing ball.
Bad news about it failing at Lockerbie, I watching it on Traksy & suspected something had gone wrong.
Love the shot of the low flying Hercules. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks Ian, that would be a bonus having been looped at Grayrigg so you’d get a good departure and hopefully with some clag, it was just one of those days with the failure but at least I got something rather than nothing at Beattock 😂 cheers nige 👍
Excellent rail video! Awesome captures! Thumbs Up
All the best from Dublin
Andrew
Thanks for watching and for your lovely comment Andrew, cheers nige 👍
Nice videoing nige lovely shot of the plane 👌
Thanks Graham, glad that came over so at least I got something from Beattock 😂 cheers 👍
"NOT WITHOUT TRIPOD!" This lesson is hammered home to me when watching your vids. I'm thrilled when you pick a tiny speck of smoke somewhere on the horizon, watch it grow -"Golly, this is a STEEEEM ENGINE!!!!!" - follow it while the cloud meanders thru the countryside, till in a grand deafening finale, the heavily breathing beast roars by... or flies by. Hopefully the RAF or USAF don't mind you called their Herc a "failure" ;)
Thanks for your lovely comment Ludwig and yes you definitely need a good tripod for a steady shot, cheers 👍
Hi nige,Great compilation....Dave 🚂🚂👍👍👍
Thanks Dave, the start of a busy few days, cheers nige 👍
@@nige7577 Hi nige ,That's good , keep up the great filming .Thanks for reply ....Dave🚂🚂🚂😀👍👍👍
Nice puff puff train and nice to see one running with no class 47 or other diesel on the rear of the train! nice video 😍
Thanks Justin, yes it’s much better without a diesel on the rear then you know the locos working, cheers 👍
@@nige7577 not often you see a rail tour without a duff/tractor behind it chance it fails! there was probably a thunder-bird or other type of locomotive on standby to rescue the puff-puff if anything went wrong!!! 😎
Great footage once again Nige. Caught both locos working well with tremendous sound from SG. Shame about the way the day ended. Take care - Chris
Thanks Chris, everything was going fine but these things happen now and again but a least I got a plane at Beattock 😂 cheers nige👍
I could almost taste that black smoke, excellent 😊
Thanks Stuart, the smell was wonderful, cheers 👍
Great clips there nige. Shame about 46115, but a great clip of the plane coming round the hills 👍😀
Thanks Phil, just one of those things that can happen but the plane was a bonus, cheers 👍
Some firing going up that gradient!! Awesome power
Thanks Daniel, with starting off they were working to get her up to speed hence to good display, cheers 👍
Great footage and the C-130 Hercules at the end was a great bonus.
It was ZH870, 'Striker44'
Thanks for watching Simon, it was a long way to go for nothing for the last shot but at least the Hercules was a nice bonus, cheers 👍
@@Camaroman231 Thanks for that Camaroman231, cheers 👍
Another great video Nige, I was pleased I did not stop yesterday at Beattock as the train was nearly 2 hours late.
Thanks Alistair, we didn’t stop much longer after you went which worked out to be the right decision in the end, cheers 👍
Nice footage Nige, a great shame about the failure but these things happen and at least Bahamas has come to the rescue.
Thanks Austin, yes it was unfortunate but like you say these things happen occasionally, the main thing was they were able to get Bahamas to stand in so credit to those responsible, cheers 👍
Great views of both locomotives A shame about Beattock but that shot of the plane was great so not totally wasted time going there.
Thanks cedarcam, just one of those days but a nice bonus with the plane so made up for the journey, cheers 👍
Good captures of the Scot. Typical you got decent weather but no train over the border.👍
Thanks David, unfortunately you can’t win them all but theres always another time, cheers 👍
Brilliant camera angle. 😃
Thanks for watching Daniel and your kind comment, cheers 👍
Very good Nige , strong crosswind played havoc with our sound but still managed to get decent shots. Can’t help a failure but there’s always next time 👍🎥
Thanks Steve, not the best conditions with the wind but happy enough with what we got, cheers 🤞
Nice footage Nige, shame about Beattock. Hopefully better luck on Thursday.
Thanks Simon, these things happen but it was great Bahamas was able to stand in for today and tomorrow, cheers 👍
Superb views of the Scot which looked in fine fettle when it passed you good Job the Jubs were around to help out. Cheers Brian
Thanks Brian, yes looked be be running fine until Carlisle, Bahamas doing a great job standing in for the Scot later, cheers nige👍
Oh dear looks like Scot’s guardsman is out of luck I’m afraid
Thanks Scott, these things happen occasionally, just one of those days, cheers 👍
Let's face it: that darned overhead catenary is the price of speed.
That’s the only thing that spoils the shots Ludwig and we are stuck with it, cheers 👍
Nige, A great start to your day but I share your disappointment at the end. Regards, John
Thanks John, these things happen occasionally and I did get a plane so better than nothing in the end, regards nige 👍
Nice video Nige :)
Thanks Simon, cheers 👍
great photography Nige
Thanks Jed, cheers 👍
They certainly had her steaming well up those gradients with the safety blowing much of the time. Someone was determined not to run out of steam 😊
Thanks Iain, the Scot took over from Bahamas at Carnforth so she was working well to get up to speed, cheers 👍
What I saw was not steam problem, but wheel grip on slippery rails was the problem, they used to carry sand to help get better grip.
Hi nige brilliant video well done i do you know what happened to Scots guardsman because it broke down at locherbie bye for now Philip
Thanks Philip, Scots Guardsman had a hot box on the tender making it unfit to carry on from Lockerbie, it’s on its way home now, cheers 👍
These steam trains are pulling too many carriages for the track. . . That is the weight is more than the train wheels can grip the slippery track without using sand as some were equipped in the old days to get better grip.. . . It is a track problem, not a train problem.
They still have sanders on the locomotives today Hugh to use when required, the failure was due the Scot suffering a hot box on the tender, cheers 👍
Which locomotive failed please .
46115 Scots Guardsman. 45596 Bahamas is now replacing 46115.
Thanks Kenneth, it was 46115 as stated by LNER Rules, cheers 👍
What happened to cause the failure
Scots Guardsman’s tender developed a hot box
Ends in a failure? Bit of a clickbaity title. Come on. Don’t degrade yourself. The title indicates we were going to see it happen c not just it didn’t turn-up for your camera.
It certainly wasn’t my intention to mislead anyone and it doesn’t say in the description that you would see that, but point taken.
