You are right the swing gate was pretty awesome!
Hey it is your world, and you are taking the time to understand how you really want it.
The water scene should be awesome! I could envision a port with some wrecked and looted mech half submerged in the ocean!
We are all here for it!

  • @JoeG-firehousewhiskey

Much better idea having it open like that

The reason for the layout change definitely makes sense. You have a lot of room underneath for a lower level or storage too.

A yard is simple enough and I find it to keep you occupied while planning takes place. I’m still crawling underneath and plan on doing a lift gate. Like all of us it’s never done !!!! Now if I could ever finish my upper level : )

Call it a Swing Gate or a Lift out Bridge or Duck under or whatever, they are a hassle and things work better with out them.

I come to Atlanta every week.I'd love to buy that swing gate and pick it up while shepherd myself

Howdy! The swing gate is cool as heck... but I see your point about access issues when you have people over. Good that you caught it now! For what it's worth (which ain't much), I think it is a good change. Gotta be flexible and willing to adapt, right? Looking forward to the next update - thanks for sharing 🤠

A nice long run WH! Will be following the progress of the new layout. You have a little room you could increase the radius to 32 inch

I see your horizontal surfaces are doing what horizontal surfaces do, collect stuff!!
I would be careful with the S curve coming out of the return loop, test it to make sure it is going to work with the trains you want to run.
Simplicity is best, good to see the swing gate got removed. Not trapping guests and allowing free movement is a great consideration.
I am still really interested in comissioning you to do a 3-car N scale set for me. I would like to have some of your style on my layout.

Updating and changing our layout is part of the process of modelling bud. That’s the creative side of you brain working. Keep it up. Love the videos

Definitely missed the bridge but I totally understand what you’re saying about people moving about freely. Makes sense. Still excited to see you develop this layout. Hoping you put out more videos soon.

24” radius is doable with the six axle units and longer cars, but it will help immensely if you broaden the radius at the start and end of the curves. Not sure whether it’s called easements or transitions. It will help with realism and operation. Love the channel

I had a lift bridge on a previous layout. I was high enough i could duck under it too but i was happy to not have it on the current layout. It is much nicer to walk in amd walk out.

Yo yo yo! Knowing the type of rolling stock you typically run, I think you'd be much better off with 30" or 32" minimum radius. I'm just trying to help. I'm looking forward to more on your haunted cove. Enjoy!

The auto racks need a wide radius.

You're going to have a nice long main line with this plan. While you will be keeping your continuous run, the addition of a yard will also allow you to explore point to point/out and back operation. With the swing gate gone, you'll have more freedom of movement without pain for sure. 24" radius should be fine for most or all six axle power. If you don't like the appearance, you might try some small footprint structures outside the track to make an intermmittent view block.

Hey i'm new to the channel! i really like the new track plan. makes it more interesting and easy to view. Just wanted to say i had my own 4'x9' layout and would recommend sticking to 24"+ radius curves as a minimum. even if cars and locos may work on 18" or 22" I had tons of derails and uncoupling issues while running longer cars (Autoracks) and ligher cars (plastic intermodal well cars) while using 22" track. I also used long thin nails with string tied between them to make a sturdy fence on the edges of the layout to keep locos and cars from diving off. even at scale fence hight it worked really well. looking forward to more videos!

As in one of the other comments, the loop at the entry area could go to 32" radius. What's the plan for the industry area on the other side? All in all this will highlight your railroad art with continues running and some switching. Railroad art gallery love it.
