    I love the knowledge that you can just use 10mm gravel. Thank you very much for this comprehensive video. Aquatic compost is so messy to work with 👏👏🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

    I got to experience Lilly overgrowth first hand. Cleaned out our 500 gallon pond that was completely filled with Lilly roots. Cutting around the cords was very difficult 😂

      Thanks for watching and commenting! It’s amazing isn’t it how progressive and thick the root growth can be with water lilies in ponds. And as you say, working your way around electrical cables can be a bit nerve wracking. I’ve cut through one once a few years ago- hopefully never again!

      @@CrystalClearAquatics Enjoying your videos. I work remote so your videos have been running pretty non stop all day recently. I’ve got the pond bug now and I’m planning my next pond and I haven’t quite even finished renewing the current one. Thank you for sharing your pond world!

    Hi Ed, New Subscriber here, I just came acroos your chanel, Looking for help on brown sludge, but what has amazed me is the fact no soil needed for lillys, spent money on soil and mesh bags, when we had no need to, on advice from garden store but only basket and gravel would do, well next year we change, and do it your way, Thank you for the advice and vidio, all the best, James

    This is the video I was looking for
    Thank you for that advice you gave in your last video it was perfect ive incorporated some of thoes plantsin my dads pond
    I've got some marsh marigold and the flower is slowly starting to tilt in to the water do I trim them down or leave them
    Respect

      Thanks Sean, glad you found the video useful! Marsh marigolds are just about over now- generally i’d cut them back hard otherwise they tend to wither and developed mildew on their leaves. They’ll soon green up again in a month or so and often give a second (albeit smaller) show of flowers after a heavy cut back.
      Hope this helps,
      Best,
      Ed

    you really dont recommend aquatic compost ? even in an 800 litre pond ?? wish i had read this 3 days ago 😓 set up my new, bigger pond in my teeny garden and all the transferring of the lillies from old pond and aquatic soil has made it so murky. what would you recommend to give nutrition?

    • @CrystalClearAquatics
      @CrystalClearAquatics  Před 3 měsíci +1

      Hi there, thanks for watching and commenting! It’s not so much that I don’t recommend it- aquatic compost as a planting medium works perfectly well, its just many aquatic plants- particularly so water lilies- grow perfectly well with just a grit or fine gravel based rooting medium, which is considerably cheaper then aquatic compost. Another big advantage to gravel over soil is its much heavier and so anchors the baskets much more effectively and lastly aquatic soil has the potential to be much messier in a pond- particularly so if livestock are present. Do you have any fish in the pond? If so waste produced from them will provide enough nutrients for plants to grow very happily. Without livestock present available nutrients will be less and thats where aquatic compost (which contains added slow release low nutrient fertiliser) has the advantage, although plants will still grow very happily in just gravel, although they may take a little longer to get established. The addition of some aquatic fertiliser tablets or a fertiliser spike (long tube containing a low release fertiliser that can be pushed into a water lily basket) is beneficial.
      Hope that helps!
      Best,
      Ed
